Okay, I hadn't seen those gashapon figures yet either...gotta admit--they're pretty fucking cool! No articulation, but pre-painted and sharply molded. They look pretty legit.

I think it's kinda great that they're making even more-affordable versions of the main line figures...and even sneaking in some exclusive sculpts. That way, more kids can get involved in the game.

The reviewer's comment about anyone being interested in the dice game being "dead" to him was pretty annoying though. Dude, these are toys for children. They're not made for you; get over yourself. Just smacks of fanboyism...

The cartoon is so good. It airs in the mornings in japan, just as the kids are getting ready for school. I can totally see some moms dressing their kids as they just sit there and watch the show.

The animation overall it pretty decent and the episodes I saw looked fun.

Nah, Adam is a good guy, and typically beats the "It's just a toy, relax" drum. I think he's going for a joke there.

Still not sure if the line is continuing, or if it's all wrapped up.

"By the power of Grey Skull... I resurrect this thread!"

    The background:

I have two Battle Beasts left over from the 80s, which my son has always been fascinated with. They sit in my office, at home, on a shelf and he'd often come in and play with them, whilst I was on the computer. When he was six, I got the idea to see if they made anything similar; my plan, was to get him some for his birthday. It wasn't long before I stumbled across the Takara Tomy Beast Saga re-boot.

Within a few years, he'd amassed a small army and we'd often spend a few hours on the weekends playing our version of the Beast Saga game. I'm sure we've dumbed it down but the way we play it is enjoyable and a lot of fun.

It has been a few years since the figures have been put to action but yesterday he brought them out and asked if I wanted to 'play a game'. We played one round and then ended up spending more time chatting about our favourite figures, what made them our favourite and which of the designs we liked the best.

After they were all put away and he had gone to bed, I wanted to see if they'd ever been talked about on SB and sure enough, this thread was here but most of the photo links are now dead.

We took a few quick photos on Sunday and I thought I'd post them on here. When I bought them, they were quite inexpensive but checking on the usual places, they seem to have gone up! Anyway, I've always thought they were quite nicely designed and made for the price.

For those that don't know of them - they have a die in the chest - each die is unique to the character and they have different values on each side. On the back, each character has a plunger, to push the die from the chest. They also come with a unique card that tells you about the character and their skills and affiliation; once again, the art of the cards is nicely done.

    Here are some quick photos:

^^ I think my favorite is the Turtle General. I'd like one of him at least! The bat is cool too.

I've never seen these or this thread before, thanks for the resurrection. I love the concept, and its always nice to see a toy line that was obviously successful. Fun stuff.

There are a couple that I am not keen on but, in fairness, those really are the minority (and obviously they didn't get photographed); for the most part, the designs are well well considered and imho they are far nicer than the original MSRP would have you believe.

TT did do a run of clear suited ones as well but I don't find them as interesting.

He is about six to seven short of the standard collection and I've been able to find them all on either YJP or eBay; therefore, I'll pick those up for his next birthday.

Given how much my son likes them, I have a feeling that they will be a toy that he looks back on fondly when he is older. That, in itself, makes them feel special to me.

Doh. Actually, this toy line tanked pretty hard soon out the gate... :/

@Mr Fox , I don't know if you're familiar with the Glyos indy toy line, but they have a Battle Beast homage called the "Armorvor". It's basically just one armor suit mold, but they have several beast heads available for it. Dunno if they're in-scale with TT's Beast Saga figures, but they could be worth checking out.

Interesting, that seems a lot of different characters for an unsuccessful line, or do you mean the original run?

No, definitely Beast Saga is the line that tanked. Yeah, a bummer: they definitely came out strong with a lot of decent content...but y'know...kids these days and their glowing screens. I think there was an anime that someone maybe watched.
