Absolutely. I've never bought anything from Vintage Vinyl Club but i peruse their stock for fugly occasionally. They seem to have retired their bigcartel and are now selling directly from their website. I find the pricing confusing. Lots of stuff is quite reasonable but all the hot-ticket items are crazy prices. Almost like they are trying to offset their greed by undervaluing 'lesser' toys ...

I'm feeling a little defensive. The prices on the VVC facebook are in HKD, not USD. I'd like someone to actually show a picture showing otherwise, instead of just coming here and getting everyone to jump on the hate bandwagon. Because I couldn't find either this $720 resin or this $7000 Penetrator. One HKD dollar is like a tenth of a US dollar, so that's a significant difference to overlook.

Seems pretty common for toy shops in Asia to have a resale section. Or, it's almost like, the price for the toy will reflect the amount they paid for it. Crazy concept I know. But, If you're gonna look at Mandarake to try to find RXH adults at retail, you will also have a bad time.

They state clearly on multiple Facebook posts that the prices on their website are 'USD'. Also, if the prices on FB are HKD, where do they say that?

Why? Are they your pals or something?

Also, who said anything about hate? Nobody on this thread 'hates' any of this crap. Don't be so melodramatic.

Not going to argue semantics, but I've purchased from them online at at DCon, and had pleasant experiences.

And it doesnt say either way but they are a HK business so you can generally assume the local currency. Unless you think they are tagging their inventory with USD prices in a HK store just to fuck with their customers.

I just went to the site linked from their IG profile and the prices that I see are definitely USD but their old bigcartel was in HKD. I’ve never ordered from them but have perused their BC shop in the past.

So what? Because you think they're cool dudes, you're going to defend their pricing when its ridiculous? Even if the Facebook page is in HKD, do you think $800+ USD or even $650 USD is a fair price for a single MVH toy? And for the record, their is no mention that the prices on their FB page are in HKD.

Anyway, don't i have the right to voice my opinion that a shop is taking the piss with their pricing, without being called a 'Hater'?

Because you are coming here in a thread designed to be negative and you are telling objective lies. I asked where the 700$ USD resin toy and the $7000 USD penetrator Dx are and surprise surprise you cannot show it to me.

By the way retail on that piece at five points 2019 was about 600 dollars if I recall. So, yes I think it is a fair price.

Edit to remove a comment that was more personal than it should have been

Also, as you point out, online store is in USD.

But in the picture I showed from their Facebook, you would see that the price on the sticker matches the price in the description of 22k for the kaws piece. So I'll ask again, do you really think the sticker price in the store is in USD? This claim is just kind of outrageous.

How did i lie? They state that the website is in USD and there is no mention of the prices on the FB page being in HKD, so i made an assumption. Hardly crime of the century.

Keep on doing you and doubling down. Instead of just, you know, admitting you could have been wrong about something.

I missed this one earlier. So you think a $287 USD flipper tax for a recently released toy is 'fair' do you? You're obviously doing very well financially then - well done to you, sir

TIL that VVC is still open and just moved sites. Thanks, gang. There were a few pieces I was eyeballing on the Bigcartel page. No “hype toys”, just Bullmark/Marusan repros. Those prices were USD at the time. $90-ish for Hedorah, $70-ish for Anguirus.

Sure, just don't try and buy any MVH because they'll have the shirt off your back.

Again with this, we are talking about the listings on Facebook, not the webshop. The webshop is in USD. Specifically the $700 resin toy and $7000 MVH resin.

Exactly my point. There seems to be no obvious indication that the FB page is in HKD, but then they clearly state the website is in USD. Hardly surprising there's confusion for those with a casual interest.

VVC are probably perfectly nice people individualy, the same probably goes for Mandarake, but both of those shops are helping to inflate prices to amounts that the majority of collectors realistically can't afford, so I say fuck em, they're fair game.

Mandarake is a much bigger operation, though. It's a publicly traded company with multiple branches, big international reach, and a discernible influence on prices, v.s. some guys with a little store in a HK mall. Not talking about you here by any means, but people do seem a lot quicker to get the pitchforks out when it's a Chinese company involved.

I've honestly never even given that a thought. I'm not interested in a flippers nationality. From a purely selfish standpoint, my sofubi collecting has taken a big hit. Whether its eBay, Mandarake or a couple of people in a small shop - if they're price gouging, they're all to blame.

VVC, I quickly got a weird feeling from these guys soon after interacting with them years ago. I decided to stay away from them.

If anyone is on the fence about spending that much on that resin DXL, PLEASE contact me first !
