Meanwhile the Harryhausen name falls away, which upsets me more than the $400 retail price. I'd love to continue collecting this toy line that Beagle/PiliotAce started but it gets a bit hard to do. The sculpt is great and matches well with the 3 previous toys.

I almost missed it was a HS toy, his logo was so damn small on the header. Fortunately it's my least favorite of the 4 and I'm ok to never own one. I pulled pictures from Mandarake of one that sold for a cool grand.

I can honestly say I don’t really like anything about it, aside from the colors. It falls pretty short of matching the visual stature of the three Pilot Ace sculpts, which have so much life and menace to them, and this centaur is so stiff and lifeless. The Cyclops, Ymir and Dragon all carry stance and personality; strong likeness to the source. The centaur lacks the form detail and “oomf” factor I feel the aforementioned have. Has a Playskool horsy vibe.

A good customer? Or just a wealthy one?

I love seeing when Hirota shares something new, but the suck-up comments and posts from followers are just nauseating.

At this point I’m totally over HXS the collectors the prices and the obvious rewarding of people living up his ass has soured me on him completely. I’m actually at the point where I’m ready to get rid of some hxs because I don’t care one way or another. I’m at that point with illsynapse too.

    Do eeeettt...
You'll feel so much better when you do, I know I did haha (you'll suddenly have some nice spending $$$ too)
I've been after illsynapse for awhile now and no luck. I just want one before I get soured on him (so hit me up if you get rid of any of that ;))

It's really unfortunate when this happens. I mean I try to differentiate the maker and product, from the 'certain masses' aftermarket, and appreciate it on its own merit, without letting the hype/flippers/begging/favouritism skew my enjoyment of fun toys; but certainly there is no question that after years of this, and if anything it only getting more aligned to those models, it does end up affecting things. So, similarly with Butanohana, where it has become an almost unobtainable goal, and was something I dearly loved. I still do, and that is a different beast where Ohashi-san actually still sells his stuff for retail (and affordable) prices; but the end result is similar. It is something you can only enjoy on the sidelines. With so many toys out there in 2020 as this hobby grows, the sort of disillusionment with some actually probably has the effect of driving more of the toys into those other collectors hands, as people move to other stuff, and it is a self-perpetuating cycle. Some of that onus is on certain makers, but mostly it is out of our control. I know each maker tries to attain different sale models, and I won't weigh in here on which are more 'fair' to fans. And we've also seen the different waves of popularity come and go. Used to be this really only affected NNN stuff (hence the ridiculous length of that thread discussion now); but that's all but gone away here. Even HxS stuff gets seldom a mention, as it moves to a periphery where only a select group/elite members can think of such things. I can still remember where the first releases were coming out, and we'd regularly discuss the history of the ape toys, the different influences, share information, etc. Now stuff comes and goes without us even knowing/talking about it. So in that respect, at least, we're all losing out.

Illsynapse is a tough one actually. As a fan of his work, and the toy, it was something cool to see come out and just enjoy had I had any luck on a lottery. But I only recently (I guess because I don't swing in those circles at all) came to be aware of the immense flipper/hype aftermarket on them. It immediately was crushing, in sort of a fast forward to what I discussed above, went right from being hopeful and enjoying it, to being discouraged and saying, 'well, there goes that as well.' :|

Ishi at least distributes Karmas to a number of people who are sofubi collectors and not just Illsynapse supercollectors.

I don't know a single person getting hxs at this point that ain't in the club

Yep, hard to believe at this point HxS isn’t doing all he can to keep the hype and behavior going. I don’t think anyone with a rational mind could even argue he wasn’t. I sold off my HxS too. Aside from a early Gorilla Ju. I could probably go through my collection and select dozens of toys I like more than any HxS toy that cost less than 100 bucks each. Once you get off the bandwagon you won’t miss it.

As someone who sold off an immense amount of hxs and nags before prices got really crazy, I can honestly say that I miss having an og gorilla ju and og nag in my collection. Just to put out another perspective. Holler at me if you’re selling

Serious question here. Do westerners have to take some kind of responsibility for the current state of affairs with HxS? Many on here whored them out for profits and trade bait to go up the ladder to a goal they were trying to achieve. Outside looking in, I feel westerners kind of fueled the fire for a lot of whats considered hype in the Sofubi market now, capitalism at its finest. They had a way of buying something at x amount, acquired a lot, and dumped it all for profits on their way out. Remember Hirota blog lotto entries consistently asked for flippers not apply. Of course I get why would anyone listen to that? But Hirota for years kept warning us he'd simply stop selling to US if it continued. Either some thought they were calling his bluff, or simply care less what happens after their profits and exit. He did however warn us?

jelly. entering every nag lotto and checking that site daily for updates, and never get rewarded lol hurt. was nice to finally see a OG gorilla in person too just to know what I was missing.

Don’t be jealous. Like I said, they’re all gone. And your collection is full of amazing shit too so it’s all relative.

Also, I definitely sold nags for $500 back in the day and hesitated thinking I was charging too much. And later on definitely bought some and sold some for $2k thinking the same thing. Yeah, I guess I was definitely part of the problem hahaha

I ain’t responsible for that shit at all. I’ve always wanted and collected HxS the few pieces I got rid of I did to Calvin for a hella nice price when I bought my house. Other then that I was never hype beasted and I only ever won 1 lotto the entire time. I traded and paid fair prices. But my opinion doesn’t matter Hirota blocked me anyway
