I really like the AA sculpt although I can agree there is something slightly amiss. But the Rampage Goji is Balls Out Awesome. just my humble opinion.
@Paulkaiju As a fellow hoarder collector I can relate, but still can't help imagining there's a reddit called "Shit That Toy Collectors Say" somewhere on the web where we're all being quoted regularly... *looksovershoulderanxiously*
@bunnyboy Just having a laugh remembering how much better some figs looked on a 3 in the morning fax printout.
How does that negate someone's honest opinion of a toy? Your post seems a little histrionic. Or are you just trying to start shit?
Not trying to start shit and feel free too take jabs at someones abilities who is suffering from Parkinson's. I miss the old sculpts, but Digital sculpting is one of the ways Anraku could continue doing something he loves.
I don't think phantomfauna was trying to negate someone's honest opinion. Anraku is still managing to put out nice toys despite a debilitating illness. I think that's pretty noteworthy. He expressed what many people including myself were thinking. Anraku's new goji is not my favorite, but with the right paint job I'd be happy to own it. I understand people hating on it if it doesn't float their boat. I also personally feel Rampage's goji is my least favorite Godzilla sculpt ever produced. It doesn't build on Godzilla toys that came before it in any kind of meaningful or aesthetically pleasing way to me. Just my personal opinions, which I don't put much stock in at all. I'm a middle-aged idiot that has spent too much time and money on Japanese toys. That's the great thing about Skullbrain though... Rampage or anyone is free to express their opinions within reason. Just be ready to take the criticism if you throw the first stone.
Good to hear, We have permission to criticise a toy at face value, but remember its important we should also take into account the artist's personal life and health status. Tell you what, could somebody please provide a list of every sofubi maker on the scene and how they're doing mentally and physically? So what if that person who criticised the toy is also suffering a debilitating illness? Are you still allowed to criticise them for being critical? This is getting complicated.
Hey, I know a lot of people HATE my dude. I knew they would even if I made a carbon copy of the original Goji suit! So, opinions are opinions, and I have them too (huh, what???!!!) - YEAH - I don’t LIKE toys that are digitally sculpted. That’s not an opinion of the maker per se (or poking at a dude who is contending with illness), just an opinion of the toy(s) in question, and this particular digitally ’sculpted’ figure looks thoroughly digitally sculpted. Ergo - not gonna buy it. More for those who do want to!
Life feeds so much into art. Sometimes the reasons why something is done are more important than the work. Success is so subjective. The fact Rampage has a Goji is awesome to me. the fact an artist who has a debilitating illness is able to continue to work through the aid of 3D is also awesome. Wish y’all the best!
This exactly. There is room in life to love many things. And not everyone has to love the same things*. This, too, is fine. * In general nerddom 2020, with all its gatekeeping, bullshit judging, rose-tinted glasses, hyper-critiquing, and obsession with measuring up one's "status" vs. others, is due for some serious self-reflection, or can just go right in the bin
I love him.....and I hate him....I'm looking at him right now surrounded by pink and yellow minions on my shelf and I love him being there. Fun, tapping at a few memories. He's like my ex, when he's with a group he's all a laugh and pulls a funny face and we smile...so at ease. Get him on his own and he's a nightmare, cumbersome and never quite looks at you straight. God help you if you want to take a photo of him. I think he's one of those sculpts that benefit from being in a collection. Heh, cant say he's my fave, but I love most of your work and what you do for the community. Big thumbs.
Just a heads up, though doubtful if at this point anyone needs it, but Medicom does have additional information available now on the new AA Goji. It also clarifies (which makes sense) that this is part of the Vinyl Wars line.
I have your solution - buy it for me and then you can confirm that you made the right choice with your own eyes before you mail it my way!
