Anyone in the States ever move their dollies across the country? I'm planning out a move back to California next year from New York and was wondering if anyone had experience / tips.
Are you using a moving truck or shipping? A lot of people use bins and stack with bubble wrap or paper towels in between the layers. Some wrap toys in clothing. You just don’t want to leave them in bins too long If possible in case of squishing
Pro tip I Read here once: wrap midsize sofvi in clean socks and tees. You pack two for the price of one best of luck! I’ve moved across continents with my whole collection more than once and it can be a very stressful situation. Sending all the best vibes
Appreciate the tips! Was thinking about shipping as I'm planning on selling the furniture I have here and just starting over. I'm also bringing my cats with me so I figured the flight would be better for them rather than a pro-longed road trip.
Do you have someone to ship them to or a PO Box or something similar? Just in case people steal from the doorstep... I would advise to have your most valuable toys in carry on but then again, I don’t know if the airplane’s carry on area is temperature controlled and cold temps could lead to damage I had movers but I stored in bins with bubble wrap and packing paper I bought in large packs from Walmart and moved myself by car. Also used car when I moved back from Baltimore -> Orlando
You guys have valuable toys?? I have clearly been doing this wrong for decades. Good luck with the move. Having been through it far more times than I care to even reflect on, I can say it is an utter pain, made all that much more so with collections. Some excellent tips in this thread here though, so I am sure you'll do fine.
When I moved, I used the pod. I packed everything myself and had it shipped to the exact location before I got there. It’s a great system IMO because you basically rent it out month by month. I only used it for one month but that gave me plenty of time to pack and unpack. If you keep it longer, they just charge you for an additional month. I also isn’t bring furniture aside from shelves and display cases From Texas to California it was like 3 days I believe.
When I moved from Brooklyn to California I bought a bunch of pouches that you would normally put dishes in. It's a soft foamy material and I was able to wrap all of my toys and put them in a Rubbermaid bin. We hired some movers and I have no complaints about them. If you're really interested I could probably look up who I used.
