A particular toy on a certain unnamed marketplace shop today had me really cringing, but I'll forego posting it here, since - shockingly! - it is still for sale. But there seems to be just no way that some of these are not intentionally going for the ugly look.

Whaaaaaa, are you standing over my shoulder??!!! :!:
(and if so, sincere apologies for what you've had to look at)

I guess this is 'lottery toy' so sorts of counts?.... no, never mind.

Those early Marmits are so awful, just a coat of primer would be an improvement.

Strong disagree there, Roger. I don't know, I get how they might not be everyone's cup of tea, but what is? They are still absolutely fun and great toys, subjectively. 'Awful,' not by a long shot though; plenty of examples of that in this thread. Lumping Marmit VP toys in is too insulting. Have at you, sir!

I have many memories from the late 90s at the Club Daikaiju warehouse, seeing piles of Vinyl Paradise Marmits that had disassembled by themselves while still in the bag, had cracked or deformed parts, etc. They were not well made and I to me, the sculpts felt like they were done by someone who really didn't "get" kaiju at all. The quality improved with the Para Babies and the other figures that followed, but that initial product line turned me off of the brand for good.

Good example of the sculpting style I didn't like. Looks like a bowling pin.

Another one. Looks like the they remembered last minute that Godzilla had legs and hired a second sculptor to bolt them on.

You are entitled to your opinion - as wrong as it is. ;) But honestly, that is not fair at all using that colour(?) as an example of the VP line, now you really ARE being insulting man! hahahaa

Nope, not convinced, still love 'em. I'll take any and all you (and anyone else on here) wants to discard. I also have to deeply respect what companies like Marmit and M1-Go did for this hobby in those days. Sure there were occasional Bullmark repros, but these companies - which I think actually perfectly compliment each other in their distinct interpretations - really built and maintained this production of soft vinyl from simply a toy to a collecting hobby. You can't overestimate the influence of that on an entire genre. I honestly doubt any of use would be here (in the community or this forum) without it. So sure, there are a billion Godzilla toys out there, and definitely not everyone likes all of them, but I can't disparage the ones from Marmit, even if I wanted to, for being original, fun, and establishing this hobby. And they were learning, and developing, the same as anyone does now. Basically, I think it is fine if you, or even a good majority of the people here don't care about them or like them, but I don't think out of hand that equates to them being awful. People generally care a lot less about classic kaiju as a whole now. And really, that's exactly what these ARE as much as anything, in toy form.

Short answer is, please, send me your VP Gojis. :dam:

PS - you have only to head over to the Marmit appreciation thread to get an understanding of how/why some folks on here dig these toys

Just to say, you are absolutely right in what you said Roger, and not arguing on that. The sculpts are crude, chunky, and make liberal 'reuse' of parts for a number of toys. But to me, that is also classic going all the way back to Marusan and Bullmark. It's just something I love about monster toys. But it is 100% personal, and for certain this aesthetic is not going to be all-appealing. I respect your opinion; just happen in this case to fall on the other side of the argument.

Phew, that is the worst Fugly toy i've seen in a while. It looks like the kind of thing a pre-pubescent Slayer fan would think is 'Bad-ass'.

Shin Gojira legs / H.R. Giger style arse / Slayer-style inverted cross / RxH Mikazuki Joe style moon crescent .... the only thing its missing is a fucking pentagram FFS.

It’s not only fugly, but doesn’t work at all as a monster/kaiju/whatever. Just have to poke it in the knee-eyes, and it’s done. Weakest monster EVER.
