His Pizza Chef makes me think of a TMNT bad guy. It's goofy and lots of fun!

I see the good in fugly, I see the bad in fugly. Many of my toys are nearly fugly.

You gotta have light and shade. If it was nothing but trainwreck fuglies, all the time, it would be boring -surely?

    Precisely!

Challenge accepted. How about this lump? A brick with a skull prick.

'War Machine'. By a maker with an equally dull name - 'Creature maker toys'.

My clear painted CutNose is one of my absolute favorite toys in my entire collection. Just sayin’.

I can’t at all say there’s anything fulgy about Pizzatron, personally! I love Aaron’s sculpts. Echoing what’s already been said, super original and very reasonably priced. His paints are always fantastically fun, as well. And I think the premise of his characters are always super goofy, but in the best way. They’re like the coolest Scooby - Doo villains(except the Space Kook. No one beats the Space Kook) in sofubi. The Cinematron, a cinematic, projector headed figure with a curtain/projection screen chest, film strip body, and film reel canisters for legs?! The Pizzatron’s brick over torso is such a cool element that really drives the theme home, as does the robotic smoke stack hat with bubbling clouds protruding. And let’s not forget the Italian chef’s kiss “okay” on the right hand. I think Uh - Oh Toys is one of the more original breaths of fresh air in today’s toys. But I’m babbling...

I wish I knew exactly what Mark was trying to prove with these paints apps. He has fantastic application, airbrush skill and transition in colors. There’s excessive use of *different colors, randomly placed in nonsensical fashion, versus something uniform, readable and digestible. Or maybe that’s just how he likes to see these toys presented; I don’t know! I feel like the splash of colors in concert on a single toy is some weird flex for artists to say, “See! I know what I’m doing! I can use an airbrush! LOOK AT ALL THESE DIFFERENT COLORS IN ALL THESE DIFFERENT PLACES!!!” Most, and I mean about 95%, of traditional kaiju toys are very much about less is more(in my opinion).

I cant speak for Instagram, but on Facebook, a lot of collectors really love the rainbow vomit. It's those types of paint apps that get the most likes and sell the fastest. There's no accounting for taste!

marks body of work is undeniably good. i wouldnt be surprised if hes focusing his works on his core collectors which tend to lean towards the rainbow-vomit. if thats the case i mean... i get it? his tsuburaya stuff is as deep as im willing to dive

See, I think I could totally dig these toys. I mean, no question, they are amateurish and could be improved by some sculpting/resdesign, but I think they could , maybe, at least be fun. But what kills it here is totally the execution on the paint. Like the examples @toothaction posted, there are some great/moderate toys hidden under bad paint apps. Give these guys some fun classic Popy robot or Robocon standard colour palettes and you could probably convince me. I am a pizza nut and love fun mascots though. But this could honestly almost be there. But is not at all right now, I agree.

    This.
Unfortunately, I think that this is probably the exact reason (as well as probably personal taste). Mark is as much a vintage head as anybody, and definitely knows what it takes to get that look I think. He has certainly executed well on plenty of other toys, but these tend to be 'standard releases' and I think the whole 'custom' market is a whole other beast. It doesn't seem to fit in or align, which makes it a complete headscratcher sometimes, but I think it is entirely in intent. I look at artists like BLObPUS and the flood of MK to the home market for inspiring and leading to these over-coloured, oft-metallic, rainbow explosions. I am not sure I have ever seen it done to my liking, so I am probably not qualified to speak on when it has been done right. But my point was at the end of the day there seem to be a good number of people out there who love this style and are willing to empty their wallets for 'customs' so as long as that happens, people/artists will keep making them.

And alas, there we are with this thread. As long as people are selling ugly toys with glammed on phalluses, skulls, machine guns, doll hair, whatever..... there will be people watching that and thinking Hey, I can get in on those sweet sohfoobees monies too!! #notsarcasm

Now that you guys mention and bring it up, I can certainly see where paint apps like this resonate with certain collectors. It’s definitely not for me, and I’ll take a jab or two at the paints themselves, but not at those who admire or collect it. I mean, I have 76 Obake Dogs and I’m sure there’s even Secret Base heads that find this hoarding questionable. I guess for me the head scratcher, as Steve put it, was that Mark’s skill set and love for vintage not being frequented on traditional characters was throwin’ me for a loop. But if he’s got the fans clamoring for the color splashes I can’t at all hold it against him. At least the overall end product is done well. It just hurts my retinas! :o

You really need to learn to protect yourself in this hobby from its many unknown dangers.

Who made this? There used to be a NY collector who's handle was Dickasaur. He's long disappeared, but he was a cool guy. He told me he wanted to make this same toy probably 7 or 8 years ago.

Seeing as the Fuck You thread is still locked down I might as well bring it up here... how the fuck is this guy looking for sympathy on instagram about being "bankrupt". Muthafucka lives a life most, fuck that - ALL of us would dream of. This dumb toy took him down a couple of rungs for me last week. Now he's pretty much fallen off the ladder with this sob story. Get fucked if you're a successful artist with a roster of wealthy collectors and you're crying about being bankrupt.

Yeah it was @Dikasaur on here, but according to his stats on here he has not logged in for over five years. Also haven't seen any recent photos on his flickr.
