Sorry, I moved my post because I realized that it belonged in the "storming" section. I'm still here (in the North Bay) and will be for a LONG time. :D

Oh good! :) We don't seem to have to many toy people in the Bay Area. When this whole virus nightmare is over, perhaps we can convince the few Baskers here to have a meet and greet . Maybe bbq some Gogas! :D

Gorga BBQ sounds fantastic. I would be all in for a post COVID Bay Area get together!

What is Gorgo BBQ? Is this short for Gorilla BBQ?

EXCELLENT reference! The air is extremely hazy in the SF. Just gazing 10 miles into the distance, it looks like a thick blanket of fog, you can't see anything! Thanks for the online interactive map. Hope you are ok? Stay safe everyone!

I'm okay. My home is out of any danger at the moment, I live on the Sonoma Coast. My work,a food bank, is under warning so that's been stressful. Keeping my fingers crossed that things don't progress much further than they are now.
Another cool thing about that map is to click on the triangles which are live cams. They're slow to load but cool.

Apocalyptic Skies! Yes, the huge Oroville and Sierra Nevada fires are generating massive amounts of smoke. Woke up today in near darkness (literally!). Made me think of my intro Geology class, when we discussed massive volcanic eruptions ejecting smoke into the atmosphere and darkening the skys for months, and for really big eruptions, years! Also reminded me of descriptions of nuclear fallout generated winters. It's one thing to read and discuss, but quite another to actually experience atmospheric particulate darkness. Just imagine if this went on long enough, all the plants and animals would die off (no crops, no food!). Eerie experience, especially following 3 consecutive days of unusual "danger level" heat in the Bay Area (SF was well over 100F, which is difficult for us, since most houses in the SF area don't have air conditioning). Had to drive Emma back to the vet this morning for a procedure, and it was DARK!:shock::shock: I noticed that all the birds stopped singing! And everything is covered in an ash layer too.

*If you snapped a photo while you were out and about today, please share! :)

Here are my roadside snaps at 11:30 AM, that's morning folks, and close to noon!
SF snap, looking over Hwy 101, south view
    [IMG]

SF snap looking towards Downtown. The skyscrapers should be viewable in the lower center, but it's too dark and smokey to see anything...

But WHY is it red and orange?
(blue which is a shorter wave length along the light spectrum, gets refracted off the particles in the atmosphere, but the longer light spectrum wave lengths to seep in--these would be yellow, orange, red)...

Wow, that's crazy. Never saw anything like that during the years that we lived in South Bay. Hope all of you are safe and out of danger.

It is crazy! Everything is covered in ash outside too! Ugh, the deck and stairs will need a serious clean when this passes. They say it's suppose to get worse before it gets better. Some people are weaving about when driving, distracted by the skyline I think. Such a weird thing to experience!

I felt like I was heading to the graveyard shift when I went to work this morning. I've never seen anything like it. I had similar thoughts of nuclear fallout and volcanic explosions.

I tried to post another pic from the series of shots but the board only posts the first image from an IG series.

Good news! The Japantown Peace Plaza received funding for some major renovations and much needed repairs

It's too bad people couldn't save Benkyodo. I wonder what is taking it's location because there's no For Sale/Lease sign (or I'm just blind and didn't see it).

The real question is, what is going to happen to the future of Japantown, redevelopment, fate of merchants and shops.

From a schedule point of view, a brief summary here
    https://sfrecpark.org/1154/Japantown-Peace-Plaza-Improvements

You'll have to do some research as to the date of it's current culture. The properties are owned by three major developers

I was bummed when I walked by and saw Takara was closed. I don't remember if the other restaurant mentioned in the article also closed down. Those landlords are crazy. I can understand asking for back rent, but asking for the full amount of back rent is ridiculous. Japantown's future has always been uncertain ever since the bowling alley got torn down. It's really not a question of if, but when. That really sucks.

    Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.... cling cling!
Those are the sounds I heard at 3:45 am this morning. I knew exactly what was happening too, since it was the sound of a grinding tool. Jumped out of bed and the fattie catties (sleeping on me!) when flying in all directions. Stared out the window and saw a car pulled alongside my car in the driveway, and in less than 60 secs, my catalytic converter was gone! Super expensive to repair. The auto body shop is going to call auto part stores to see what the wait time is for a cc for my car (for Toyota Prius, it's 7-8 months!). Thieves are targeting Toyotas and Hondas, so be safe out there, and make sure you have comprehensive auto insurance coverage! San Francisco is becoming a truly hazardous place to live :x

...BTW, never stop anyone from taking things from you, it's just not worth the risk of bodily damage or worse! Things can be replaced, people can't

Just got my car back from the shop this week. Opted for a Calif-certified catcon, since the actual factory part meant a loooooong wait, and being without a car for months is not an option. Did not end up getting the rebar cage (newer cars can opt for cage kits). The shop says they still cut through the cage, and it would be an out of pocket cost of another $500 (yup, California is expensive) on top of a sizeable insurance deductible! @Dpatterson2005 , sorry to hear you had to go through the same thing. Apparently SF and San Mateo are really bad for this type of theft. Please remember that if you happen to see them taking your catalytic converter, don't try to stop them. Most of the thieves are armed, so it's not worth the risk. You are worth more than an auto part, and yes, it's still a major bummer!
