I was blown away by those bids also. They're both fantastic customs but I figured TKOM's public statement of disdain for customs about a year or so ago mightve tampered the interest in these. But I guess the quality work speaks for itself.
Yeah...I shouldn't be shocked but still am. 2000 for a painted over toy. Personally it'd be difficult to buy a toy that was painted over by a customizer.
Long before Tkom pleaded for painters to stop customizing his toys. There was a custom double think show at tag with pretty much every practicing toy artist at the time. I also painted one that I would actually like back if anyone has it. Please message me and we can work something out. But regardless I don’t know if this is from that show but there are a lot of custom double thinks out there.
For me personally, it depends who the customizer is as well as their relationship with the creator off the toy. I have a couple customs but they are from artists that don't sell blanks and worked with an artist to do a couple customs. What killed me is that the big auction piece was signed "2019" and it was an edition of 7. Most of the customs and TKOM paint on the the original doublethink sculpt I've seen are from 2015-2016.Either way a pretty insane price for this particular toy.
Incorrect. The artist just writes their 1s like 7s (which is honestly very careless), look at how they wrote the year "19" right above. It was originally a commission apparently, which is...interesting. Gotta wonder how much they paid originally and if they commissioned it with the idea of flipping it a year later for profit. Link:
Hi guys, a friend told me about that discussion, i wanted to clarify the situation, i have absolutely nothing to do with that auction, i’m particularly sad the guy sold that custom, unfortunately it’s his right as the owner... i just hope whoever bought it will be happy with it. My commission fees are i believe reasonable, the guy paid 100$ for that custom work if i remember well, the toy was blank it’s not a repaint and yes it’s a one-off, i will be more carefull with my 1s in the future ^^ Sorry for my basic English, i’m French i do my best to be understandable.
There's no discussion nor need to defend yourself. The point being is that someone on the internet paid 2000 for a painted over toy. Just an observation.
Hi Shifty, the conversation wasn't really a criticism of you but just shock at the eBay auction end price. Regarding painting blank toys I think the issue was more of a TKOM one but I'm not familiar with his comments or his relationship with the TAG release.
Dear God I remember selling my Medicom release which was a run of 10 for retail to a dickhead who promised to mule for me and never did. Meh, you win some you lose some!
Saw this. I’m wondering if the buyer pays. There were two people bidding at the top line and seems odd when a very nice mixed part FINK with all pieces went for less than 1k on eBay about a week ago.
Amazing - Now a different seller has one listed at $475 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mutant-Vin...n-/324514490374?&_trksid=p2056016.m2518.l4276
Did anyone see this one? Is it a custom or an old one off? Looking at the pics on the listing, the masking on the teeth and nose ring is super clean.
A Gargamess with additional Bullmask head that I have never seen before. @Russblue11 there are no shots of the bottom of the feet
