Consider this a work in progress. I think I missed several companies and reissues. It could also use more detail to help new collectors ID a reissue of a Toho or Tsuburaya kaiju vinyl. Hopefully I can add a couple of photos.

I don't mind the metric system but please include inches and feet for us stupid Amerikans.

the term Replica is also confusing...

an opening paragraph would also be nice after the terminology list.

Great summary so far. This would have really helped in those early days of collecting. I might suggest a few other companies to add (e.g. Masudaya), but not sure if you want to limit the list to exclusively 'reissued' figures, but companies like Bearmodel and US Toys definitely have vintage-esque figures. How about a section on Popy (separate from the B-Club re-issues)?

Can fix the first and last thing, but is the "replica" definition in the doc too vague?
    thanks
Not my department, maybe someone else can.
    Thanks.
Honestly this was all thought up and written during my commute so it's somewhat half-assed, but thanks.
    Was looking for that, thanks.
Thanks. The doc is just what it says, a guide to reissue and replica vinyls, no more, no less. If Bear Model, etc. have done that then I will include them. As far as I know, all of the Popy-branded reissues are sold by B-Club, if you can show me that they are being branded Popy only, I will revise the doc. And please refresh my memory, what did Masudaya make?

Sorry, I guess what I was thinking of was the more modern (but still sort of old) Popy stuff from the late 70s and 80s (not the Bandai associated figures). As for Masudaya, they released Spectreman figures, both vintage and reissues (probably others too, that's just what comes to mind).

Masudaya did the original Spectreman figures. The reissues are made by CCP.

    Some notes...

Tsuburaya Communications was the predecessor to Yamanaya (website here: http://www1.ocn.ne.jp/~yamanaya/).

Technically, wouldn't Ark/Orange/EP have been the first source of reissued vintage vinyls?

    Hukkokudo also reissues Yonezawa vinyls.

Did not know about CCP, will work that in. Do they have a web site?

And Ark/Orange/EP sold toys pre-bubble burst, so I consider them "vintage."

Great job Roger. The guide is looking really good. Just a fyi in the B-Club section you mention Bandai revived Popy in the 2000's. To be more exact it was revived in 2003 as Popy Corporation. Originally when it started it was Popy, Inc before it was merge with Bandai in 1983. Popy Corporation has now been merge with another company sometime in either 2007 or 2008.

This is a toy chart from a japanese toy book that i re-created and translated today in to a excel sheet. Maybe you or someone will find this useful or not.

The original chart as shown in the book:

Chimply, the chart helps a lot, thanks!

Marta, I totally forgot about those Kamen Rider reissues. Adding them to the doc.

Fantastic, Roger! This is going to be great!

CCP used to have a page on their site for Masudaya's Spectreman's re-issue but it has since been removed.

Is Masudaya and Modern Toy related or the same? Thought I say the diamond shaped MT logo on the Spectreman's bag.

According to their website (http://www.masudaya.com/), Masudaya Modern Toy was the name used for export toys, such as the tin toys that were sold in the 50s and 60s. The MT logo is still in use today (although the meaning is apparently "Merchandising Technology").

I'm pretty sure this is a different company than the Modern Toy company that produced the Giant Gamera, although the name is similar.

    Thanks, akum6n!

Yeah, it doesn't look like they're producing sofvi anymore. But I'd assume they had all the molds for the vintage figures? Perhaps those were loaned out to CCP when they had the license to produce them?

This is awesome, Roger! In reading through it I've found a couple items that I wanted to draw to your attention as I think they might be errors:
Marusan Sizing: You have the mids (13cm) being smaller than the minis (14cm).
Bandai: You write that they're re-castings of the original toys because they are slightly larger than the originals. I thought that this process would result in a smaller, not larger, product than the original? I might be wrong on this, but just wanted to put it out there for ya!

Also, can you tell us more about the planned Giant M1GO Hedorah? Giant like those 4' Kanegons?

Hyper Hobby Dash 6 have a spread about this. there are only around 20 of them has been reissue. I dont see anymore new reissue more then the list. but i might be wrong. and the vinyl unifive use on their toys are feel cheap.

Thanks Roger, this thread is under my bookmark~ :D
