Stumbled into a really cool vintage toy store today, called Alphaville, actually they carry alot more than toys, cards, posters, and other cool stuff. I picked up a 4 foot tall inflatable tiger from the 60s. Cool and cute as hell, made me think of a Jeff Koons sculpture when I saw it. They're at 226 W Houston. They've also got a website, alphaville.com Anyone else been? Thought I'd share, I like to see cool little stores like this stay alive in NYC.
Thanks for blowing up the spot Just kidding, Yeah this is a very cool out of the way kind of store tucked in between a weird lower west side block. I love this store and would have to say by their non collector inflated prices that they truly are one of the best stores to check out. Untouched by the internetz because that guy would not sell the stuff he has for those prices. How does he even pay the rent? Support Alpahville!
Yeah, lots of treasures in there and good prices. I was debating sharing or not, still some stuff in there I want. Here's the tiger, it's huge. It's sitting in my bedroom and when you walk in it's the first thing you notice.
Found out Alphaville is closing shop today. Stop by and say good-bye take advantage of the closing sale. Get your army men and Weird-oh cards. Honestly I'm surprised they were open this long.
They are a pretty cool place and it feels like a gallery or museum to toys. Will miss them. But their prices are jacked up. I'd recommend scoring anything you feel is worth it while they are closing, but if the price is too high scope out eBay. That said, I will miss this place far more than “Love Saves the Day.” The owners are cool.
when is it closing? i really want to check this spot out.. sounds like a true hidden gem edit: called them up. closing next saturday.
here's my pickups from their closing sale. i just wish i would have known about this spot sooner so i could have seen it in all its glory.. oh well, at least i got to check it out at all, thanks sb here are my little pickups. sorry for the craptastic pics, i need to get a new camera one of these days..
I miss this store so bad! I have gotten such cool stuff there. They still have a website, but the store prices were always significantly cheaper !
