Not as stunning as Michael's awesome fire-breathing Goga above, but this guy landed on the top of the shelf this morning (forgot I even had him boxed away!) Seems to have a guts insert as well. Not bbq'd yet
Took one of my newish guys out for a spin. I'm really proud of the portrait-style photo, although my focus definitely could have been better. Clear blue Guerilla Punch, absolutely crystal-clear when the light hits it. The heavy silver on this particular toy won me over, especially as it's layered with the more standard gold colouring on the tusks and hands for a beautiful space-age metallic look

Was lucky enough to come by this OG blue Drunk Boy. This is one of the sculpts that got me into collecting sofubi--I was speaking to a friend, and his blue Medicom kimono version immediately caught my eye. But of course the originals were too rare, and not the kind of thing you sell to a new guy. In the past I was able to track down the yellow and black, but never the blue. When it finally popped up online, I couldn't believe my eyes. Anyway, full circle! This one arrived with a mini Mamaregon that the original owner says Anraku included with it. Other friends who know all the releases by heart say this never happened, and the collector must be mistaken. I've not a clue. In real life the two vinyl bases look exactly the same, and of course the paints match. I've known some pretty wide paint variations within the same Anraku run before, so perhaps some coming with a mini is possible. More info welcome. Side-note--is anyone's old Anraku plastic starting to age a bit? I've bought items from 3-4 older collectors now, and all were distinctly tacky, dust stuck to the plastic and such. At this point I have to consider that it's the vinyl, not the storage method. Soap improves the situation, and I absolutely can't risk the metallics on these with oxy-clean, so it's what it is. I don't know if it's factory related? you would think they would all be ordering the same raw vinyl, maybe it's the curing method? Some just didn't do as good a job? There are definitely brands where the vinyl sweats more with age than others, from the newerish stuff, cronic has always stood out as the worst in that regard. Normally clear vinyl gets stickier and sweatier than opaque as well, must be something to do with the vinyl formula. Yeah, a litle dawn dish soap will do a pretty good job, but it will always come back again.
A good chunk of my OG Anraku sweats and gets tacky. I’ve always just used mild dish soap as well or sometimes even a wipe down with a damp cloth improves it for a while. Also minimizing temp fluctuations where your collection is stored helps, I think it has to be temperature-related to some degree.
I was offered the blue mini Mamaragon with my Drunk Boy. I noticed back when AA had the “list” not everything was offered to everyone on the list. None of my solid colored AA have any stickiness, but my three of the early clear figures need a bath every year or two.
Mystery solved, thank you! Guess the aging varies. I just had a red Mamaregon land that also severely needs a bath. Beautiful doll though, the size totally shocked me.
