Dude, you're just digging yourself into a deeper hole and it's becoming really embarrassing. You should really know when to stop and heed your own words. I'm not judging. I'm just saying

Happy first man walk on the moon day everybody

Thread derail: I am sad to report the number of people I have encountered recently who still buy in to the 'faked' theory. I knew they were out there, but did not expect to be in the minority. Anyways, still a great feat to be marked and celebrated. Of a time when spending was put into greater endeavours. I salute thee America, you have done some things to be proud of.

    Carry on.

I have never been to North Dakota. I do not believe it exists & is, in fact, an elaborate hoax.

This is easily proved by the absence of shadows on North Dakota maps.

    Re: Bansheebot banned??

Interesting off topic on the faked moon theories. I was just watching Room 237, a documentary about Kubrick's 'The Shining'. There is a theory that Kubrick was hired to make this fake footage of the moon landing using front screen projection by the US Government (Perhaps after seeing what he did in 2001). In Room 237 they make the claim that Kubrick who was said to have n IQ of 200, was bored with film making and cleverly disguised hidden messages through the film. Other theories included massacres of Indian tribes, the 1942 Nazis, etc etc.

Personally I do think the whole moon landing was faked. Because every time I see footage of that shabby landing pod I think there is no way that glued up piece of tinfoil could have survived. Atlantic recently did a photo essay on the moon landing:

    http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2014 ... on/100775/

Also with the advancements in science and technology are you telling me could have never gone back in the last 45 years?! I call bullshit.

As in "47 Ronin"..?? Jk, I second the recommendation for Room 237 - truly mindblowing stuff. Did you notice that in the scene taking place in the manager's office with the "impossible" window, there is not only bright sunlight backlighting the room, but the rather huge ceiling lamp is also turned on - yet another odd detail that isn't even mentioned by the person obsessed with that aspect...

^^^ (this my new I'm too lazy to edit quotes go to method by the way- I think many others use it here)

Yeah there are interesting and plausible theories about hidden messages in Kubrick's 'Shining' in Room 237, that impossible window was a good one. Then again some of the people they interviewed are out of their minds. I do like the one they showed about Kubrick changing the color of Jack's VW Bug to yellow, then later showing the original Stephen King's book VW which was red, crushed under a semi in the snow in the film. Supposedly that was a fuck you to King from Kubrick for complaining about some of his changes to the original story.

You forgot to mention that the scene with Jack slowly passing by the accident is of course NOT in the book... Not that I didn't like Kubrick before, but I've been in love ever since.

    Re: Bansheebot banned??

That's a tough one. it was King's book 1st, but then Kubrick's movie. Kubrick, not a trsanslator, but an artist himself w' film his genre, ha, of course he's going to do what he thinks is best. King may as well have been an assistant advisor to the film, and has pretty much said so. Anyway, love the movie, love the book...

Damn, Jason, I sure hope all of your posts are restored. I can think of a few that I would deem as some of the best on here, and that's just in the few years I've been here. Can't imagine what before may have been lost. Ridiculous.

In the future, I strongly recommend not wiping out anyone's posts when banned. 1) In case crap like this happens. 2) History should be recorded for the good & the bad, or rather - just left alone, for reference, etc.. Use "ignore" if you don't want to see their past comments so bad.

And to further prevent situations like this from happening, perhaps there should be a majority vote, which I've already seen mentioned. Maybe by members who've been here for a given amount of time too, so as new members can't join up for the sole reason of pleeing the case of he who's at the chopping block..

King, on his involvement with the Kubrick production:

    8)
A friend hipped me to Ager's stuff a few years ago and I've been a fan ever since.

All of his output is, at the very least, interesting, but I'm particularly in love with his extended analysis of Starship Troopers.
Seems an appropriate piece to link to, what with our recent collective brush with fascism. ;)

Not to derail this thread further but I did create a 'Room 237' thread last year:

    viewtopic.php?f=5&t=45479&hilit=+room+237+

Guess we can continue over there if need be. I find it pretty fascinating stuff.

    Re: Bansheebot banned??

Gonna intentionally contribute to the off-topic drift here...

Some conspiracy theories and hidden message interpretations are better than others.

Kubrick had nothing to do with faking the moon landings and there are no hidden messages in "The Shining" thereof. However the director himself did make some clarifying comments in interviews regarding his general lack of belief in the supernatural, except for the notion that horrific events might have a sort of extra-dimensional presence or residue in the locales where they occurred, lending credence to the background element of Native American slaughter in the movie. But having viewed that movie countless times since its release, I'm of the opinion that there is no singular explanation for what's going on, and that ambiguity is intentional. I see new things every time. The sense of evil and madness is generalized. You never know precisely what's going on with any of the principle characters and any evidence for a singular explanation is as easily disproven with counter evidence. To that end, some of the best material in "Room 237" has to do with impossible architecture and planted incongruities such as chairs moving around by themselves. None of Stanley's movies after "Strangelove" has a singular unifying theme ... they all contain numerous themes that are distributed across his entire body of work. And many of them prior to that film e.g. "Paths of Glory" and "Lolita" also contain thematic and visual elements that remained conventional in successive films. Dude was a genius.

I recently revisited "Eyes Wide Shut" with an eye to the Masonic/Illuminati theories that some have about the film. I was expecting to dismiss all that given that it's primarily a film about trust in marriage, but ... well, there is indeed a ton of weird symbolism and some easily-missed planted coincidences and doublings, just like in "The Shining." That being said, the movie is not a coded revelation of the hidden masters who rule the world which led to Kubrick's sudden demise, as some of the conspiracy enthusiasts would have it.

I don't know if this post makes any sense, but if it doesn't, at least we're not fighting. :)

Totally, that's what keeps it interesting. Thanks for the links, I promise to read with an open mind. 8)

First we have to figure out something we disagree on. Now that you guys mention it, there is a certain Kubrickian symmetry to this...

    Re: Bansheebot banned??

I believe it IS mentioned in Room 237 that those rumors already had been around prior to Kubrick filming The Shining, so the sweater and the floor pattern could very well have been his way of making fun of those rumors - at least that's how I took it.

And since it's all nice and off-topic in here - regarding the supernatural, I recently stumbled upon this highly intriguing paper, which suggests a possible link between infrasound around 19Hz and "supernatural" phenomena.
