Have you ever had the feeling you were going to be outbid no matter what, but bid higher just to make sure the other guy paid more? This is not something I have done often, but I though about it with an auction last night. Should this go in the crimes of skullbrain thread? Is it worse than eating peanutbutter straight of the jar with a spoon?

There is nothing wrong with eating peanut butter out of the jar with a spoon. NOTHING.

I won't ever go higher than I'm willing to pay, cause you know, you might win.
Though, there were like three mvh zugs on ebay recently that sold for some low prices. I was tempted to bid cause i thought they were too low, but then, you know, I might win and I don't have all that extra money lying around.

Seldom are there times I’m willing to bid somewhat high on particular toys I’m chasin’, but it has happened. When I drop a high bid and I get beat out, it’s never been intentional, but I can’t help but think “Well, that fucker paid more than they wanted to!” Then I remember “…but not more than they were willing.”

Unsure what it's called but the practice of the same buyer placing a whole shit-ton of incremental bids one immediately after the other (sometimes only pennies between 'em) really chaffs my ass!

Unsure if its just trying to intimidate and put off other bidders but it's just wanky!

The other one that cracks me up is when guys go to the trouble of placing a $10.00 bid for sump'n like a HxS Gorilla!

I admire their optimism . . . but why bother!

Don't worry, half the time they try to cancel their bid and not pay after winning.

I haven’t bought anything on eBay in ages, but I would normally put in what I’m willing to pay and let it rock, if I get out bid, so be it. Sometimes I have thrown a little more money at an item in hopes of scaring the other guy off.

Of course there is no way to predict a win, many times I thought the item was mine for sure, or I thought I had no chance, and the opposite happened. But yeah, I've bid-up sometimes knowing I very likely had no chance of winning ... make them work for it.

As for peanut butter with a spoon, one of my fave indie flicks called the 'Rhythm Thief' has this guy eating out of a big jar of peanut butter with a screwdriver ... now that is classy!
