Since when did Bigcartel need a paypal 'business' account to accept payments? I had been using my personal account for years with no issues. Hopefully this is a recent switch cuz otherwise I've unknowingly been missing out on some pin/comic sales the past few months
Yeah, I discovered this yesterday during an online drop. It only came into effect from March 9th, so you probably won't have missed out on much. I thought I'd followed up on the warning emails they'd sent, but it turns out Japan no longer has a PayPal system that supported by BigCartel. So now I've made a Stripe account. Yet another banking system to learn. btw, expect your annoyance level to jump up a notch when you realize the reason for the change- US state tax now deducted automatically from all sales!
Thanks for the reply @mondocoyote !! Tbh whenever I see any kind of email from paypal, my bank, my city council, etc that I haven't asked for or am actively involved in - I just ignore em. Goes to show I should really pay attention to some of that junk mail. It's annoying because now I've been forced to convert my personal paypal into a business account.. which I guess isn't any different really as far as fees and functionality goes.. I did however have to register some info with the government, like a sole trader business registration number (this is for Australia.. not sure if other countries go that deep). Will see if any headaches arrive from that next financial year..
