Thank you guys. Years back I decided I wanted to make toys again. The creep hadn’t done what I was hoping but it was mainly because i hadn’t done what I wanted to do with the sewer creep. When I went back to the drawing board I realized that the biggest regret I had was not making a fight figure. The fight figure is the reason I got into this scene. The first batch of toys I bought were fighters and because of that they have always held weight for me in this scene. I wanted them back I missed toys that fit in your pocket and could go somewhere with you with ease. Add to that my love of death black and doom metal and you have the beginnings of what I wanted to do.
This line is just beginning I have lots of things in store. It’s gonna feel like old times and also something brand new and different. Thank you all for the kind words. I honestly can’t wait for you to see what’s coming.

    Stupid question incoming...

What exactly makes something a "fight figure"? I've seen threads about them for years and showcase threads showing pictures but I've never found an actual definition of what makes them what they are. I thought maybe they were related to a specific toy maker but seeing you bust them out yourself kind of squashes that idea. Is it just the medium size plus articulated exaggerated arm length with non-articulated legs that make it a fight figure?

These guys are awesome Mikee, totally have that creepy mystic and are super fun at the same time. I love the Sewer Creep I have, though it's interesting to read that you didn't quick get what you wanted from it. Will that Character make a comeback as a fight figure??

    Here ya go!

EDIT: This doesn’t answer your question but it’s good reading nonetheless.

I cut and pasted @Dean ‘s excellent 2012 summary below, which is a synopsis the S7 fight fig article.

    “Super7 issue 13, June 2006.

Don't have time to recap the story at the moment, but as a quick digest, in 1999 Cocobat bass player Take.shit released the first fight figure, Fink.shit, which echoed Ed "Big Daddy" Roth's famous Rat Fink character (which in turn partially parodied Disney's Mickey Mouse, sort of an anti-Mickey.) Aspects of that first figure such as the height, body style, grimace-grin and pugilistic fists (often with boxing gloves) have appeared on numerous fight figures (as well as others which aren't necessarily conventional fight figures such as RxH's Shintosan) since then.

In 2002 Secret Base with the help of sculptor Cosmo Liquid and in collaboration with Take.shit released their first fight figure, the Skull Bee. Several other SB figures followed released in numerous color and vinyl schemes. Some of their fighters have been released in collaboration with the band Balzac, e.g. Bagman aka Paper Bag Man.

In late 2003 Gargamel received approval from SB's Hiddy and Take.shit to create their first fight figure, Gargamess (so named because the face is similar to that of venerable Ultra monster Gomess.) Numerous figures followed ... at one point Gargamel even released a fighting ring bank toy for the figures to battle in. The company abandoned their fight figure line a few years back allegedly due to diminishing interest. If I recall correctly the last figure released was the SDCC bright orange Bullmask, originally named in tribute to classic toy company Bullmark. (Or was it the GID yellow Cumberlain? Can't remember, sorry.) The tributaries of tribute in the fight figure world are complex. Many of their paint schemes are tributes to the manner in which vintage vinyl monster toys were painted.

According to the Super7 article, other fight figures that followed included Real x Head's original figures, the original Blobpus sculpt, Sinbad Toy's Chicken Fever, Maverasu by Cronic, Pharos, Pharon and Damnedron by Rumble Monsters. Super7 collaborated with Secret Base on figures including Frankenghost and Ghostfighter.

The article includes a stylish "Fighting Family Tree" that looks like it was designed by Brian Flynn. The issue is well worth seeking out.

Although I didn't get this from Brian or the S7 staff, to my mind S7's own "Snakes of Infinity" line includes fight figures such as the Hood Zombie and Stomp. I don't know if Lamour considers his Mongolion to be a fight figure, but it certainly fits in with the general style and spirit.

This summary doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the fight figure legacy, but there's a quick capsule for starters.

Other excellent resources include Super7 Magazine Issue 7 which features a good inventory of a large number of Secret Base figures, Issue 10 which does the same for Gargamel's, and Super7 Mook #1 which does the same for Real x Head up to the point of publication.

Fight figures are fierce and ready to rumble. I hope interest in them re-ignites at some point, but even if that doesn't happen, they've made their mark on vinyl collector toys and have influenced styles of newmonsters introduced in the last several years

To me, size and form factor are defining aesthetic traits. The short, stubby, un - articulated legs, elongated, exaggerated arms, gloves and/or attire, and the semi - rotund bodies. The heads themselves can range from character to character, but each fight figure I own has specifics to my eyes that make them fighters.

Skull Bee is clearly in a Judo gee. Skull Brain and its head variant brethren adorn the gloves, and Muay Thai - esque arm positioning, as well as the trunks and wrapped ankles. Chicken Fever I just call Muay Thai Chicken, because its stance and arms are perfect for it, and the trunks/muscle shirt combo makes it a little redneck to me. Though the mini Chicken Fever has suspenders instead. Ggml fighters are more like wrestlers to me, but it’s obviously still fighter style, much like Judo. They wear the traditional single shoulder strap onesies and rock championship belts, sans the Pinwheel and Wheelbarrow, whom wear gees with wield closed fists.

In the case of Kvltvs, I think Mikee hit the nail on the head with the form factor. And there’s a breath of fresh air in terms of their attire, as it’s more epic battle armor, but still a fight nonetheless. Much to the likeness of Secret Base, they all share the same body, but each three of these characters are distinctive to their own arms and heads, which completely separate them, to the point that you almost forget they share the same body.

All in all, I’d say “traditional” design elements from Takeshit, Ggml and Secret Base are really what carry the fight figure label and what makes them fight figures. I really feel Mikee took these elements, and spun them into something new, and something that really resonates with him as his own visionary for what a new wave of fighters can be. And I absolutely believe these fit the criteria.

So originally the sewer creep was gonna be a fight figure.
I had plans for him to have be fight style then I would come out with different arms and a head later.
Then I caved and went Cure boogie scale as that was where focus was shifting and that made the creep tech deck scale which I thought was a fun accessory.
Then when he was sculpted the next joint wasn’t done correctly so he lost neck articulation which then made the idea of adding or changing him at all basically impossible. I had planned to do something similar to headlocks current stuff with him originally.
That said luckily the kvltvs figures have actually worked out exactly to plan. Like Robert was saying I am very excited about the fact that the arms and heads are dynamic enough to almost misdirect from them all sharing the same body. Also I am happy to share that the neck joint is old school fight compatible (SB GGML).
When I started collecting I became interested because these toys were fun.
Fight figures are dynamic and appealing. The modular design cues remind me of MOTU where as the designs themselves lended to cartoon and classic character design.
With the kvltvs I was hoping to incorporate and flip all these ideas in new ways. I’m also hoping to try and do a bunch of other things to really make collecting fun when it comes to this line. It’s really all about have a good time... while still being evil as fuck.

Just got my set in the mail and I have to say that they look even better in person. From the bag the set comes in to the extras ( stickers, rune stones, numbered member card?) you can tell a lot of care was put into this first release. Great job! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for BLK CLVD.
