Buyee/shipping a poster from Japan question-
Anyone ever buy a *framed* poster/print from Japan and had it shipped the USA? I just spotted a print I’ve been after at a decent price, but it’s framed and I’ve got no idea about how oversea shipping might be. In regards to price and condition. I use Buyee… I’m wondering if they’d be willing to remove it from the frame and roll it up in a tube and ship it to me.
Anyone have any experience with other something like this?

I've done both, as in ordered pre-framed prints as well as unframed rolled sheets. In both cases they came from Mandarake, which is quite decent on average for packing (though definitely had plenty of not-so-great times as well, this was more on the toy front). Cost-wise, it was reasonable in both situations, all things considered, but this was also some time ago, and prices have definitely gone way up since then.

If it was something I was really after, I would accept the extra cost for shipping the frame - I've also done this from Australia too, for what it's worth. Yes, it is expensive, but considering the cost of framing these days, it really does become a trade off. But I would always be sure to ask for extra protection in this case, and I would feel much more comfortable buying framed items from a shop, gallery, etc., versus going through a middleman or auction. You also have avenues for compensation then IF something does go wrong, whereas with the latter I think we all know it is much more caveat emptor, and after the fact grievances are almost moot.

Rolled stuff is generally fine I would say. There are enough rigid tubes available at low cost that most people can do a decent job of packing well I hope. Provided the posters/prints are rolled and placed correctly inside, an adequate and strong enough tube is used, and ends are spaced and sealed properly (again, I would much rather trust this to a store or specialised seller than some random individual) I would not have too many worries.

Disclaimer: it really depends a massive amount on the value of what you are shipping, too [as with anything]

I got some posters/prints from Japan recently and they came in a squared tube and all had a long dent/fold from the tube’s edge :?

Japan. From Three Tides Tattoo. Everything was packed well otherwise but I guess the posters got pushed against the tube’s corner when they were put in. Posters/prints still display fine thankfully

Squared tubed? What the even? Man, that sucks Kevin, while I am glad that they still display well, this sort of thing would really get to me, too.

So I ended up not buying whatever framed print that was. But I did buy a rolled print, a RJB Godzilla vs hedorah print.

I would opt for the extra packaging. The RBJ print I ordered was shipped rolled in the the light box it originally came in (probably from the event) with the official Godzilla sticker, which was then wrapped in about 2 layers of bubble wrap…. And then shipped across the world. The box was dinged, and one end was coming open when I got it, but thankfully through some stroke of luck there was no damage on the print to speak off. I would have thought the standard cardboard tube would have been the way to go but they didn’t seem to think so.
