I recently won an auction through Phillips de Pury and now i have run into a huge issue with shipping, they have quoted me over 5 x what i was expecting to pay.. this they assure me is there cheapest option. So currently my toy is sitting in a shipping warehouse in NYC and i have to try find an alternative way to get it here to Australia. If i was in NYC i could pick this up and pay the additional tax, they have also stated i can arrange shipping myself. The only other option i can think of would be to get them to ship to an extremely kind skullbrainer who could forward this onto me and i would pay any associated costs. Does anyone out there have any experience with a similar situation or any advice? Thanks Jared
Find someone here or elsewhere in NYC that you trust and pay them for the service of helping you out and mailing EMS to Australia. I'm sure there is someone that's willing to pick up some cash for their time. I would post this request in the New York section of the board, here: viewforum.php?f=35
Yeah, I've won a couple of their auctions in the past and was floored by the shipping cost too! (I assumed they were wrapping my items with gold leaf or something) I'm in the US, so I can only imagine the costs you were quoted. I'm happy with the items I won but would definitely rethink bidding on another auction in the future due to their high shipping fees. It would have to be something I really really wanted. (btw, items were shipped very securely but no gold leaf was to be found!) lol. Good luck to you and hope you find a kind NYC SB'er who'll help you out!
