Everyone on the board needs to take a chill pill and relax. While Skullbrain has always had a fair share of non-moderated trash talking, it is really starting to get out of hand and resemble a bunch of internet vampires with nothing better to do than attack one another. Let's make this board fun to read, not a drag. Most of you are all 25+, so please start acting like civil adults. Remember: You are talking about TOYS so no matter you internet persona, no one else you know is going to understand why you like this stuff. It is a whole lot better to be friends with each other on here rather than mortal enemies locked in verbal combat over who has the cooler toy collection. A few items to consider: 1. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. If you feel the overwhelming need to have to say something, say something constructive, don't just be an ass. 2. Who cares what toy you think is stupid? I can guarantee there are plenty of people who think your toys are stupid. Haven't we been through this before? please review this: http://www.skullbrain.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35830
That was a good read, I hadn't seen that one before. The worst thing I've read that I totally don't understand is guys going into threads about toys THEY DON'T EVEN COLLECT OR BUY just to criticise them and their creators....and some of the creators are forum members who decided to make toys while on SB....guys just like you and me. Each to their own, if you don't like that toy, don't go to that thread! It's not rocket science. There's no growth in a forum without new members, this whole "Newbies don't know shit" outlook doesn't even make any sense since half of these "newbies" might have been collecting for 20 years. "New" doesn't mean "young, stupid and don't know what they're talking about" which seems to be what is thought here. Half of the people here I trade with are business professionals with amazing, high paid jobs across all industries yet people come here and talk down to guys with the exact same interests as them? It's a forum for like minded individuals! What Brian says is right, people need to grow up and act their age. It's like mating time for Hooter monkeys, everyone's all puffed up, poking their arseholes at each other and flinging shit like primates.
What I have learned is most of the complainers don't even buy toys anymore. I used to try and be more part of Skullbrain but got sick of getting brought down. So now I browse and add a few words here and there and I am happier in my life.
I don't think you've been around long enough to appreciate the culture of this forum. While it doesn't justify some of the things that are done and said at times, the reason that certain members/creators are derided where others are let go has a lot to do with the history of this niche hobby venue.
- ^^^Something to consider before opening your mouths and there's always rule number 1. 1. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. If you feel the overwhelming need to have to say something, say something constructive, don't just be an ass.
Thanks for being (t)here, Brian! Couldn't agree more! Criticism about a piece makes sense, as it is a discussion board after all, but unnecessary negativity towards a member is a whole nother thing... and not a good one.
It's a forum, there are bound to be disagreements. That's just the way the internet is. No one's saying the longer you've been here the more weight your arguments get, and vice versa with newer people. I think some people that have been through all the changes in this hobby over the years and have been active members here (that's an important part because yeah you could collect for 20 years and be a n00b here) just tend to be a little jaded at the next big thing discussed over an over. It creeps in after awhile at times. Yes toys are fun but you learn to block the low level noise that sometimes clutters forums, other times well you just have to let it out....
There was a lot of substance to think about in what you said Lixx, but concerning what I'm quoting,... :Thumb-Up_Smiley:
Well said Brian. And it is not a bad idea to reel things in from time to time, with the way that stuff can go on around here. I think it is sensible that everyone here is open to legitimate critique, heck, it can even help those starting out on the right path, but I never understood the purpose of coming in to a discussion just to dump all over something. People do need to chill out and just enjoy the general discussion, else what are you doing here. It's worth mentioning that there have been some real moments of positivity on this board too, and I for one really appreciate the work Brian, the mods, and others have put in to giving back to SB. Thank you. So, uh, yeah, let's follow all the advice and rules on here as we can - there are no shortage of threads to provide you with the information you need if you are willing to look - 'cause if Brian shuts this down, I for one have no idea where I will be spending my days (yes, I am a sad, sad person).
It's been done before (shutting down). I'm sure some other folks remember when SB had a timeout. It's easy to get caught up in the drama that creeps in around here sometimes, but if you step back it's just as easy to ignore most of it and focus on what appeals to you whether it's vintage, neo-kaiju, reissues or what ever.
It really isn't about what is collected or what topics are being discussed. It all boils down to individuals. I'm pretty cool with most of the stuff but occasionally do get riled up over things that are just too ridiculous. But there are some individuals that are just plain toxic with their sarcasm, ridicules, put-downs etc. So if your negative "contributions" outweighs positive ones you might want to re-think your participation. Indeed a timely and necessary post from Brian. Hey, don't forget, he allowed you guys to hang out in his backyard. Behave.
Yeah this is way worse than all the scams that go on. I'll take a Glenn Pogue situation over someones negative comments any day. Good thing those people got banned. That makes total sense. With all the support and participation of the mods on here I'm surprised you can find any of the negative posts.
I'll consider myself told and go sit on the naughty step to think about what I've done until I can play nice with others . . . or is that just toxic sarcasm?
I've been collecting this stuff since I was 16, but only recently joined this board. I am new here though, and I'm willing to roll with the punches. I used to be on the KR boards... And I never want to go back. Just glad to be a part of all this.
The information that used to only be shared here is now provided on so many different other locations its not like it would really matter. Minus the hype machine, which oddly doesn't even run for S7.
Really? Someone who clearly ripped folks off...over some negative comments?! I'm not down with negative comments and I'm glad some folks got banned, but I'm really not cool with ripping people off!
I'm pretty sure Audio was being sarcastic. Enough with the diatribes though, the response to Brian's post is "Yup, you're right. Lets enjoy toys."
