Yeah I agree about the lettering And I like that they have titles I've never heard off before. It's always nice to discover a new series. I've been really enjoying Orbital.
I've been wanting for about a year and half or so since I first saw it to pick up the HC collection L'Incal from Humanoids (not the giant coffee-table version of course, though that would be pretty cool I bet). It's so nice that they (apparently) finally fixed that atrocious re-colouring they did a few years back. For the time being I still have to enjoy my Moebius the old fashioned way, through Metal Hurlant and French BDs.
Yeah, i picked up the recoloured DC/Humanoids version cheap - its not a patch on the original (the version used for the translation by EPIC). The recoloured version even manages to obscure a lot of the clean lines. Mind you, EPIC messed up one time. The version they did of 'The Goddess' was a bit of a bodge, they somehow managed to transfer the clean black lines onto the CMY plates as well. Made them go all fuzzy looking which is a downer - all the other books they did a lovely job on.
Moebius, Trondheim and Sfar very good choice man. I'm a big Moebius fan and Blueberry is great, more for drawing than scenario, Charlier's scenarios are too talkative IMHO . But "La mine de l'allemand perdu" and "Le spectre aux balles d'or" are masterpieces. I just checked and I saw there is a translation of this : Guys you have to read this, this is one of the most beautiful things I have read in recent years, even Moebius had praised this author before he died. I saw that "Pachyderme" and "Sand castle" by the same author had also been translated. These are two masterpieces too, do not miss them.

I loathe Frederik Peeters. Never understood his popularity.. Can't go wrong with Trondheim and Sfar though and Christophe Blain !
Well, in comparison, It feel like you just told me you ordered something from Violence Toy I've red Frederik Peeters's early on and for me, he's just a trendy unoriginal follower. He goes with the wind blows and now it's retro sci-fi... Note that a friend tried to make me read Aama - told me it was great. He's a Vampiralla fan though
WHAT ?!? I love Vampirella to ! (That's not true) How could you don't like Aama @nefasth ? You can't say it's an unoriginal follower, it was on of the first to make autobiography with "Pillules bleues" long time before it was a trend, he made Sci-fi for long time with "Lupus" which is a fantastic book by the way, he made a lot of totally original, intelligent and oneiric stories like "Chateau de sable" or "Pachyderme". His last book "L'odeur des garçons affamés" (he just made drawing) his a fantastic western. Aama isn't a classic Sci-fi comics for more, it's about characters, family and destiny. Peeters is for me the best author of is generation (and a very nice guy by the way). And I think he's more under-valued than over-valued like Sfar who made some fantastic books like "Le chat du rabbin" or "Pascin" and a lot of craps. Trondheim made some "nice" books but nothing crazy. I prefer his "autobio" series like "Les petits riens" than his fictions. He product too fast and It's felt on the quality of his books. About Blain I can't say nothing, he's a genius and as for Peeters I recommended to everyone to read it. I saw that "Gus" and "Isaac the pirate" was translated. Go for it guys.
@Fedhai Pillules bleues : 2001. 10 ans trop tard (10 years too late). Ego comme X wanna be. Did you read Fabrice Neaud and such ? Those were the pathfinders. To each is own (but I still hate every panel he ever did )
I know he's wasn't the fist to do that, but when he made Pillules bleues this kind of story was not common. Neaud and David B do it before. But when Neaud published "Journal" the Americans had already published this kind of narrative since the 1970s. He did not invent anything either. Anyway I think that Americans and Canadians are better in this kind of stories.
Yes, i have these. Gus is translated by 'First Second' and Isaac by 'NBM'. Isaac the Pirate is amazing. I loved it. The only downside for the NBM English versions is they have been shrunk down from the original size.
I just read House of Penance by Peter Tomasi and Ian Bertram. I picked up the paperback trade that collects all 6 issues. It was a pretty good read with some great visuals, especially if you love red. It takes place at the Winchester Mystery House. Spoiler There's even a ridiculous 8-page long splash page near the end. Yeah, AVClub recommended it. I got it for $12. Not bad. It's no hardcover Junji Ito, but I'm biased....and that's manga.
Just purchased a 12 issue subscription to the Sabrina comics as well as snagging one of the volumes of Jughead.
^ This week, I got Sabrina's complete work 1962/1972 in glorious B&W for 10$ + a Frederik Peeters book to see if my opinion* of his work would change after a few years. *It did not but the story is ok ; )
I read that a French publisher had bought (very expensive indeed) to Fantagraphics the rights of this comics: Looks gorgeous, has anyone read it?
I realise the discussion here has been somewhat focused on graphic novels and such, but wanted to share these, as maybe someone here would also appreciate them. Picked these classic ishes up for 10p each at my favourite local book shop. Yes, they're are well-worn and loved, but that hardly matters to me. I am not a "collector" or anything, just enjoy the classics, of which I would say these qualify. Excellent examples of Kirby/Ditko and Lee from Marvel, and the third issue premiering the Kirk Kangstrom/Man-Bat storyline From Detective Comics.

Thanks for the link @ungawa222 I'll read it, and yes the drawing is totally amazing ! I read that the french editor bought it for 67.000 $, that's a huge amount for a comics right so they believe in its potential. @ultrakaiju Graphic Novel is just a fancy word to say : "Hey this is not a stupid book for children with guys in tights !" but that's still comics and I love theses silver/bronze age covers. They are even more beautiful when they have lived.
