    1992 SD Ultraman pen stand

Had him for a while, just cleaned him up a bit today and thought he deserved a photo.
Whoever thought the design up is a genius.

I wish I knew. I've only seen a couple on eBay by themselves.

I've never seen it before and i still haven't got round to picking up the larger vintage one. Its always eluded me.
I much prefer it to the 'modern' reissue . . .

A 1970's awesome bit of tat, this one. Made by 'Stafex' UK who changed their name to 'Linden' greetings cards in the 80's. The seller couldn't believe her luck i wanted it and sold it to me for 50p. He's a lovely deep red flocked soft vinyl.

I am pretty sure this is a bootleg of 'Topo Gigio' the famous Italian / Spanish TV star mouse. He is almost completely unknown in the UK so
i wouldn't of thought anyone would bother licensing him for the UK gift market . . . unless he was made for Italian's and then shipped over here with an English sticker slapped on.

He's still in his original gift box with clear plastic protector and untouched. I would guess this is one extremely rare piece of 70's tat.

The only reference for 'Stafex' online i could find is for a record collector website. Seems the card company pressed vinyl records and probably sold them bundled with birthday / anniversary gifts . . .

I dont often use the term 'Grail' but this one is very much that. I've been searching a long time for this fella in good condition for a fair price!
I cant really explain why i love this toy so much, so i wont even try. He's from one of the darker moments of the Pinocchio story . . .

Ha, very cool find Moog! Have you celebrated your 21st yet? ;) Definitely a Topo Gigio KO I would agree; I didn't know that he wasn't as well known here. I even know in Japan he remains somewhat of a recognised mascot/character. That donkey is incredible, congratulations! Very happy for you that you were able to add it to the collection. I think my mind is purposefully avoiding recollecting the scenes involved in Pinocchio, as I found that entire segment particularly disturbing for whatever reason (and I care not to reflect upon it anymore, or any of the other old Disney hauntings, thank you very much). Those early Disney films sure were made in a different time, and I would argue, are much better for their 'darkness'/lack of saccharine gloss-coats.

Yes indeed, they still stand up very well considering how old they are. The Disney Pinocchio is 77 years old and Snow White is 80. Wowzers!

I hope these screenshots for context dont disturb you too much ;)

Haha, Watership Down. That did indeed traumatize many a kid back in the day. I had the film-stills graphic novel book they did of it.
It taught a lot of kids in the late 70's that nature can be seriously fucked up!

Watership Down is one of my favorite things ever.
And speaking of Topo Gigio, here's a lil' celluloid weirdo I picked up yesterday while antique-fumbling:
I'm wondering if this was an inspiration for Topo? Surely it's not supposed to be him; the toy seems to be much older than late 50s.

    @rattanicus

Wow, that mouse is old. Celluloid is a good indication but the clothes really shout antique! Nice score.

Very interesting, i have a few toys like this, that i would consider museum pieces . . .

Vintage Post Boxes by Mothercare. 10.5" high.
I was amazed to see the one with the black lid sitting in a charity shop the other day. They are so rare!
It still has all the blocks and letters inside just like the blue-eyed one . . . .

I'm not sure which version was released first.

Great find man! You sure have some great luck at these charity shops, I can tell your persistence is rewarded. :) Very nice too that you found not one, but two, in complete condition, too. I am clearly 'charity-shopping' wrong.

The antennae were all squashed down so have been bending them back into shape but decided to quit while I'm ahead.

Ha, that cutlery set is indeed pretty adorable. So, rabbit and mouse I am guessing? What a strange concept, I can imagine them with the whole dinner set now too.

Love that Biene Maja (as I will always know it) Max! A really nice version of the character, and I am impressed with the lovely condition she is in. I know what you mean about reshaping/trying to repair old toys; you obviously want to get them in as nice state as possible, but never want to take it too far either... for fear of the consequences. For what it's worth I think you did a great job on the antennae, and I actually like the slight curl they still have; adds a nice extra touch of whimsy to the toy. :)

Charity shop buy for a few pence. I think this one is from the 1980's but i may be wrong.
He has one of those shakers inside him with the plunger-thingy that makes an ugh-ugh-ugh noise when you shake him . . . .

    OMG!

I used to live in Holland when I was a kid and totally remember the Maya TV show! I believe it was 1980 or 81..

I like that gorilla, haha! Looks like he maybe wants something in his other hand, though?

I went there a few years ago, and it was still on TV...
They love those 70s/80s Nippon Animation shows in Europe better than they do in Japan.

Yeah, i was thinking that but i'm guessing its for clipping onto a cord or a car aerial or something . . .
    He's a similar size to most clip-huggers.
