    Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Mini Thirteen: 11/12

Here's a Mini Thirteen I just finished up. I was experimenting with the weathered metal look and found that a rusty-metallicy-red color beneath the silvers really adds depth to finish overall. I wanted this guy to look like he's seen some action and I'm pretty happy with the result. 8)

You're a Warhammer hack, but I love it ;) The kill markings are a nice touch.

    Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Mini Thirteen: 11/12

    Thanks, guys.

Glad you can stand my Warhammer hackery. I'm still trying to find a balance between the brushed-on and the sprayed-on paint techniques and I'm finding that different approaches work better for me on different toys.

The kill marks are there because I was asked to put a number 5 on the figure. I thought I could incorporate that and give the toy a little more personality by going with the marks rather than a number. I like it when simple little details bring a paint job together. 8)

    Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Partyball: 12/16

So here's a custom Partyball I painted. The different textures on this dude really make this figure work for me so I wanted to emphasize the clash between the fur and the metal parts.

Great job Dustin! One of the best Partyball customs I've seen yet! There's so much texture in the paint.

Thanks, Blake. Glad you like this one. I take a ton of photos of my customs but sometimes it's tough to pick the right one to post.

Partyball is my favorite of the Monster Family toys so far. I wanted to paint it in a way that really brought out all the weirdness of PK's creation. It was definitely a challenge but I'm happy with the result. Thanks. 8)

    Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: 2010 Year in Review: 12/20

This year of toy collecting/painting has been a blast. Through this hobby, I've met tons of great people and picked up a bunch of new friends.

Big thanks to everybody who bought something from me, everybody I bought something from, the folks I've partied with here in SF (and S7 for putting on the shows that led to that partying), and everybody that took the time to stop by my Ultra-Thread to share a comment. You guys are the best.

I hope you all have a great holiday and an excellent 2011.

    Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Bionic Ooze Bat: 1/1/11

Starting the new year off with this dude. Once I discovered how nicely the Gachamecha arm fit on the Ooze Body this custom really took off.

I went with a more muted palette here (which I know is not for everybody) that I hoped would work with the Ooze Bat sculpt but still make this guy look kind of tough. I figured that an Ooze Bat that had lost his arm in action probably wouldn't be too bright and shiny.

    Hope you guys like it.

Holy shit this is amazing. Perfect new years post, want!

There are quite a few gargamel sculpts with mix and match parts. The helper/relphe arms fit the gacha perfectly too. I would guess globby arms do too.

    Thanks a lot, guys.

No, this one wasn't a commission. Just trying to do something interesting with one of my favorite toys.

This guy might make it into the upcoming one-off show at S7, still haven't decided.

Ooze bat looks good with the cyber-arm! I wanted to mash a gachamecha arm on something else but I only have one and they're not always cheap or easy to find. It really fits O-B well.
