I was experimenting with the weathered metal look and found that a rusty-metallicy-red color beneath the silvers really adds depth to finish overall. I wanted this guy to look like he's seen some action and I'm pretty happy with the result.

I'm still trying to find a balance between the brushed-on and the sprayed-on paint techniques and I'm finding that different approaches work better for me on different toys. The kill marks are there because I was asked to put a number 5 on the figure. I thought I could incorporate that and give the toy a little more personality by going with the marks rather than a number. I like it when simple little details bring a paint job together.

Partyball is my favorite of the Monster Family toys so far. I wanted to paint it in a way that really brought out all the weirdness of PK's creation. It was definitely a challenge but I'm happy with the result. Thanks.

Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Bionic Ooze Bat: 1/1/11 Starting the new year off with this dude. Once I discovered how nicely the Gachamecha arm fit on the Ooze Body this custom really took off. I went with a more muted palette here (which I know is not for everybody) that I hoped would work with the Ooze Bat sculpt but still make this guy look kind of tough. I figured that an Ooze Bat that had lost his arm in action probably wouldn't be too bright and shiny. Hope you guys like it. And yeah, it's painted under the big hand:
