    Ear Worms
"An earworm, sometimes known as a brainworm, sticky music, stuck song syndrome, or Involuntary Musical Imagery (INMI), is a catchy piece of music that continually repeats through a person's mind after it is no longer playing..."

Stuck at work on a gorgeous summer Saturday, working on a deadline and watching old Wooster and Jeeves episodes, and now I've caught one!

    47 Ginger-Headed Sailors

    Now there's a good ship,
    H.M.S. Cock-Robin.
    On her home trip,
    Up and down she's bobbin'
    So the crew's pretty tough.
    The weather's so rough.
They're all fed up and say
That they've had more than enough.

    I've got a brother
    He's an able seaman
And they call him Redhead Tom

I wire to say I'll meet you
And with your pals I'll treat you
So who do you think I've had a message from?

    Forty-seven ginger-headed sailors
Coming home across the briney sea
    When the anchor's weighed
    And the jouney's made
    Then they'll start the party
    With a heave-ho, me-hearty

    When there's Forty-seven ginger-headed sailors
You can bet you're going to hear them when they hail us
    And as they step ashore
    There'll be one mighty roar
    For forty-seven ginger-headed sailors!

An old maid down in Devon
    Said my idea of heaven
    Is forty-seven ginger-headed sailors!

    Interesting idea for a thread!
On any given day I'll get one, which usually doesn't vacate until the song has been played (sometimes multiple listens are required).

A handful of tunes immediately come to mind... but one in particular wears the crown:

I legit avoided this thread all day because I thought it would be about actual ear worms and I didn't want to find out if I had them.

Waterbear, you are so funny! Although DrilOne's post is pretty yucky! I have a strong aversion to earwigs (and potato bugs). Yuck! :x
p.s. Thanks for sharing Smurph, that is a very nice version!

I wouldn’t mind having those mentioned so far on mental repeat. Although when you want one to stop and it won’t is another matter. :x

An ex of mine and I had “Ain’t that a kick in the head” stuck in our heads for close to a month! Coworkers and friends were getting sick of hearing it too, but not nearly as much as we were . We’d joke that this may be the first stage of losing our minds, but we honestly kind of felt that way at times as it became so damn frustrating.

Not sure exactly what phased it out, but for awhile after that, whenever the song came on, we’d both immediately shoot each other looks of horror.

Me then wouldn’t believe I’d ever laugh at that. Ha, you really do feel like you’re goin mad. Tho not quite so dramatic as the “Easy Street” room on The Walking Dead .

Amy Sedaris suggests that a sure-fire fix for an earworm is to chase the song snippet with the button from this ad:
