Re: Fist of the North Star–Kaiyodo-Kenshiro Mega Sofubi Adva Check this blog out . . . http://news.livedoor.com/article/detail/11155374/ From this i'm assuming that it is soft vinyl. Sounds like they are comparing it to a garage kit (which is what it looks like to me). Not the kinda thing i collect but it does look pretty cool . . . . . Approach and, surprisingly no mistake in fineness and texture of modeling. Modeling but itself is also amazing, also worth checking that it clears the difficult challenge of reproducing the texture in soft vinyl. Stunning texture of carved leather pants wrinkle. In order to reproduce this texture, that of the mold and molding techniques are making full use maximum. And technology to create a mold in a way that time-consuming that Bakeout resin prototype directly, the mold Together, and technology to mold to the original, I mean that has been reproduced an elaborate model in soft vinyl.
Re: Fist of the North Star–Kaiyodo-Kenshiro Mega Sofubi Adva Cool! I agree, it does have a garage kit/statue vibe to it, but i'm not really bothered by that. Now i just need to look for space in my home, for this massive dude.
Re: Fist of the North Star–Kaiyodo-Kenshiro Mega Sofubi Adva Yeah, I love FOTNS, but this doesn't really do anything for me specifically (though I agree hopefully it is huge and that is not just a small model ). For a garage kit - which is indeed what it looks like - it is fine. I just don't go for realism in my toys, and 'statue-esque' figures even less so, so if they were really going to go a 'sofoobee' route, I would have loved to see him rendered in vinyl like the recent Street Fighter guys. Personally that seems like a natural extension perfectly suited to Ken. Maybe you couldn't work in all the post-apocalyptic detail, so more anime rather than the manga, but damn if it would not be cool.
Re: Fist of the North Star–Kaiyodo-Kenshiro Mega Sofubi Adva Pretty sure these aren't garage kits, but pre-painted figures (though I'm not sure if they come assembled or not). Anyway, if you dig this product, then great! Like Steve said, it's not really for me. I'd prefer a retro-styled sofubi.
Re: Fist of the North Star–Kaiyodo-Kenshiro Mega Sofubi Adva this is really neat. It again begs the question as to why in soft vinyl? It is a feat getting the detailing and materiality in this medium, but resin is a more forgiving and easier production method. It almost seems that the tag is just being used to ensure more folk buy it. A garage kit person would certainly not like the downgrade of possibilities that come with a material that is less forgiving, more finicky with paint and controlled-climate dependent. unless the price point really cuts the resin price, there seems to be less for all camps when it comes to a toy/ statuette released in sofvi. Any thoughts from the customizers around here? especially if you work in epoxy or resin stuff.
Re: Fist of the North Star–Kaiyodo-Kenshiro Mega Sofubi Adva Yep, it's sofubi. Kaiyodo's large Mega Sofubi Advance line includes Evangelion Unit 01, Big Chap Alien, an Iron Man, the Nautilus, some Ultra Seven, a Blue Whale, an African Elephant, and others. They're in fixed positions with no articulated parts and marketed as model statues. Most are pre painted. I've been back n forth on getting a Big Chap and Nautilus of my own for awhile now. The high price is a factor, but I'm not sure how I sit yet on the detail, paint and overall execution factor. I don't regularly collect items of the like and I too question why soft vinyl. They sure are stunning though.
