I've had a couple of the bird guys, and like Josh said, none of them had a maker's mark on them. Just some lines across the feet.
That red bat-thing was sold along with an orange Triceratops and lumpy purple dinosaur guy- all pretty common and cheap on YJA. None of them have names or footstamps and the headers just say something like "Super Kaiju Series" or "Ultra Kaiju Series." I believe this is the same company that is responsible for the mini patchi-kaiju (sold in bags of 5) that are often attributed to Marusan. Here's a page with some info in Japanese... I haven't really gone through it yet: http://homepage2.nifty.com/namonaki_kaiju/page003.html
I would definitely say the Target Earth Gamerudon is a bastard child of two Yonezawa figures. First we have the Yonezawa Saidon. Next we have the Yonezawa Gamegon. As you can see, both these colors were used for the TE Gamerudon. From the front, you can see that the Gamerudon has the same segmented chest area as the Saidon. They also both have their tongues sticking out and share the same stubby toes. The face of the Gamerudon is more like the Gamegon. They also have more similar arms opposed to the Saidon who looks like he's ready to do some pull-ups. From the back we can also see more similarities from both the Saidon and Gamegon. Back of Gamerudon. Notice the spikes running down and the overall texture of the figure. Spikes can also be found on the back of the Saidon along with the bumpy rough texture. However, you will notice the stance of the Gamerudon is more like the Gamegon. Anyways, Target Earth did an amazing job on the Gamerudon. It is a great sculpt influenced by two even greater ones.
Well, the colorway on the Gamegon pretty much clinches it, given that it matches the first Gamerudon. I guess the name also makes sense now, taking the first part of Gamegon and the last part of Saidon. Good eye- way to add to the mythos of weird patchi kaiju!
Oh yea! I forgot about the naming. Gamegon + Saidon = Gamerudon! Thanks for pointing that out too. And yes, patchi kaiju rules.
I managed to nab it off a site (forget which, I'm sure it will come to me) awhile back before stock was updated (it has since disappeared). It was already sold out so I had no chance I'm thinking it was a custom because there is no reference to it on the Target Earth blog, but then again.....
Slack your avatar is freaking me out man! I just saw that movie today, that old woman was creepy as hell! Yeah rainbow bright Gamerudon is pretty nice. Wish I could own another one!
that movie was a lot of fun my translator is tough to understand but it looks like it was a custom by some unknown person?
Good eye. Interesting, but that entry says that it is a custom, or at least that T-E has no recollection of painting that one. He seems a bit upset about it.
I may be mistaken but I think that figure came up for sale a couple of weeks ago on YJA. It sold for a BIN of 18000 I think. If it was one and the same the paint looked thick and nasty on the auction. Maybe it's a different one though.
Is that teh woman from Drag Me to Hell? If so, she is a tenant where a friend is a building super, and says she is super nice and was stoked to get this part - not too many parts for anyone over 25 these days, let alone over 50 and female. Apparently she got got to go to Cannes et al - always a nice bonus for the struggling actor!
I remember the site now. It was Mandarake. I think they do YJA auctions? This will only add to the mystery though. Muton yeah that's the woman from Drag me to Hell
Interesting. That would explain why the paint has a matte finish in the photo (granted it is not the best image) whereas the other T-E pieces appear glossy in photographs. My favorite part of that blog entry is where he basically says, "Well, there's no accounting for taste." Haha.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... _500wt_925 $445? Wow someone was just like fuck it, I got money to burn...... Absolutely ridiculous.
Yeah, I can bet alot of us were watching that one. Nice piece, but the price seems high. Whoever got it really wanted it.
It's really bizarre to me considering I bought mine for 60 dollars off of YJA last year at exactly the same time (end of November). Not only that, it recycled for 3 times without bid before I finally had the extra loot to snag it. Now this...
Gameldon has come a long way. I think the recent Nagata GID customs (and the soon to be released Target Earth versions) definitely had a hand in giving them a boost in demand and stardom. But... $450 is really out of whack and particularly for this version.
