I'm working on a tshirt design (just for personal use), and I want to include ウルトラQ (UltraQ) on the design, but I don't want it to look stupid. 1. Is it okay in Japanese for me to stack the letters this way. 2. Are they kerned OK? (I am guessing at the term for letter spacing) I am no designer. So whatever comments are welcome. Japanese is traditionally read from top to bottom, right to left...or I could be totally way off and thinking of a different set of characters. Cool shirt...can I get one in black?
I'd be down for one of these too, if you are going to produce a few of 'em. I love all of the opening illustrations, and would love a shirt for each of the kaiju in fact (a different colour/critter a day!).
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Oli! As far as making multiples goes, I looked at making a silk screen, but the materials seem expensive to me. So instead I'm going to try making a butcher paper stencil. This kind of stencil can only be used once, becasue the wax that adheres the stencil to the shirt is spent after one use. On the other hand, the original image I made is available for download from Flickr. Just click on the picture to go to the flickr page to get the full size image. You are more than welcome to take the image and do whatever you want with it. I also looked at on-demand tshirt printing like vistaprint and customink, but these options cost more than I wanted to spend. I already have a couple old blank tshirts I wanted to decorate.
I think it turned out pretty good! I remembered that I had some sticker paper, so I used that for the stencil. Even the nose holes worked.
Hey would anyone still be interested in a shirt with this Gary design? I took a stab at making a Threadless artist shop version, which is a print on demand rather than silkscreen. I've been pretty happy with a few shirts I have ordered from other artists, but they definitely fade faster than a true silkscreen. Mostly, my old shirt fell apart and I just wanted a new one, but I figured someone else might want one. I ordered a sample, and need to do a couple tweaks. If people are interested, I can post a picture of the final sample before I open the shop up for orders. If I do open a shop, proceeds would go to RAICES which helps refugee kids landing in Texas stay in the US, rather than being deported and murdered back home. Let me know.
Count me in for one. I'd also be interested in a sweatshirt too, if that would be a possibility. If it is a matter of several of us chipping in to get the proper screen(s) done [i.e. only one needed for single colour, wouldn't be that bad], that might be an option. Thanks for reviving this, Blake!
@CopASquatToys @ultrakaiju So I'm not interested in dealing with the real silk screen thing, or printing stock in advance. However, I would be happy to send Adam my hi-res PNGs that I used to upload to Threadless, if you want to run with it. I have vector files too. Send me a PM if you are interested. Theoretically, Tsurubaya holds copyright on the image, so there's that. I have a Gyango design as well. I'll probably still do the threadless thing because I have a hard time finding shirts that fit my disgusting, misshappen torso, but the threadless regular 3x seems to be pretty reliable. I'll post again when I have the link set up.
