Jeez, all those features make the toys marketed to kids today sound like they aren't even trying.

Cool bags this year but the lack of variety kinda sapped the excitement.. ya seen two bags ya pretty much seen em all. Going back looking at the bags around 2012 are so much fun to revisit.

I agree. I appreciate that they are making newer/less-released sculpts available to more people through the bags (Garudan, Mechas, etc), but I feel like some of the magic is gone. I'm not sure if it's the increased cost of production, longer waits at the factories, or shifting priorities in the lives of the Gargamel team, but they don't have the random, grab-bag kind of excitement they used to when there was a larger variety of items.

It's more of a New Year's Bag than a Lucky Bag now. I still very much believe that the price is a great value for the toys you get. The issue is, if you don't end up liking most of the bag's contents, is selling/trading off those pieces more effort than it's worth? Especially now that there is less variety in the bags to trade for.

No surprise to me. The bags for a few years now have come with two pretty standard bag options. Exceptions have been just that.

It’s just the expectation and excitement that gets people, somewhat unrealistically, expecting massive diversity.

Personally I have been digging this years bags. But I understand the critiques and the disappointment as well. The comparisons of this years bags vs. those of the past, as recent as 2015 are pretty obvious. Back in the day you would get what, two standard figures, up to four pocket/mid-size figures and three micros. The standards could be two of four different variations (if I recall correctly), and the mid-size figures were of five or more variations in actual figure as well as paint app? Or something like that. The micros were more or less standard, maybe a variation or two. Then there was the added bonus of a possible hand paint (signed and numbered), variation figure altogether or a Year Of The (____________) Zodiac figure.

So yeah, I get it. However, and this is not to negate any of the aforementioned, but the quality, design and value are still there in the end. Gargamel LB's are still the strongest every year IMHO. Even when the bags were "bulkier" people complained. There was a lot of hate for the Conifas I recall. Anyway, I like this years bags. But I am a tad biased. I'm kinda' the guy that thinks Gargamel can do no wrong. I'll admit that

I agree completely. This bag was actually better than past in many ways since there were several new scuplts and limb variations, and the garudan is one of my faves. It’s a welcome change to the standard deathra/zag bag, by I totally see the disappointment for those who focus on deathra/zag collecting. The disappointment for me lies in the fact that this is the only chance for most to get new Gargamel figures. I can’t afford to spent a grand or more on a custom (flying, hotel, and toy) and muling seems unlikely for a gargamel custom. I was lucky to get an piece from the AA show but it was pricey. So, I would definety pay more for the lucky bags for them to contain a few more figs or even hand paints and small runs. It’s a dilemma for gargamel. More toys and hand paints would increase interest and sell more bags, but may be cost prohibitive as people would likely complain about paying more. But when they keep the price low, bags go unsold. Making a release or two available to western collectors would probably help. The AA exclusives are so overpriced on the aftermarket and really not available to us for retail. And that is shitty. Their presence at dcon is a gift and they don’t have to participate, but it is really inaccessible to many of us. And really, I’m just happy they are still making toys!!

Couldn't agree more, I'd love to see a standard size run released a couple times a year. The one off's are gorgeous but way out of my league.
I'm parting ways with a good portion of my bag but it's worth it to get that one piece that you can't get any other way. I'll be buying a bag next year too with the understanding that this is the new norm.

I don't collect Gargamel unless its Bwana, but enjoy watching this all unfold every year. I tend to like what shows up each year in the bags but LOL! Does anyone keep their full bag?

I've been getting bags for quite awhile and the only thing I ever traded was a zodiac figure because it was one I already had.

I miss the randomness and variation quite a bit myself. It was that whole grab bag/mystery box feel that got me really excited. Plus since I kept everything I got it never had anything to do with value or trading or rarity at all. I liked the fact that I couldn't go out and buy all the things I wanted from any given year because there was just too much stuff. The last couple of years it would have been easier and cheaper to just go the the sales forum and grab the things I really wanted.

I agree that the quality is still top notch from sculpting to vinyl to paint and the bags are an affordable way to grab a bunch of great stuff all at once. Still though I was a big fan of the mystery and the playfulness which both seem missing now.

I fucking love Gargamel. Probably won’t buy two bags again considering it’s pretty easy to find most of what is offered here on the board but I will continue to pick up one as long as they keep putting them out just for the fun of it all. Still have my fingers crossed for a Miborah

I've kept the full bag for just about every bag I've bought. Every year I say "this is the last one." and every year I fail.
Also, traditionally, lucky bag sales (in general) are the start of the new year.

Japan only? One bag per box? Looks to be like 71 boxes or so.

Every year has been different. I will say that I am excited about this year's bag for 1 reason and that is because it's the first OPEN chance for people to get a full mecha zagoran (blank/painted). The only opportunity otherwise has been at shows and the price for 1 1-off (although appropriate) has probably been around 300+. If you go online 500+++++. Mandarake 1000+

Three years ago? Mecha head.Last two years..mecha torso and head and now the full reveal.
For a long time fan, to get a new sculpt ...well I think that's pretty cool.

    This post says it all!

I personally like mechs, and really enjoy what Gargamel has released in their LBs. The Gundam figures they made last year were a nice change of pace as well. I hope to see more mechs from them, especially any painted minis.

Also, nothing wrong with hating the bags. We might not like the same bands but it doesn't mean we don't appreciate music.

Is the painted Mecha the same base vinyl as the unpainted Mecha?
Guessing so but alot of photos are misleading...

    edit:
Also wonder why the different foot stamps on the Mecha and the Garudan?

has anyone been lucky enough to receive a zodiac dog in a retail bag? wondering if it's even a thing this year, or if it's just going to friends & shops.
