I'm happy to see @gorgoloid diving into more vinyl pieces, he's a great sculptor and has definitely paid his dues over the years with his ceramic and resin work. This new sculpt looks great and has a real Zollmen feel to it - great details and textures all over this guy!

There's a kickstarter running over the next month for a green version produced in vinyl by Awesome Toy. Very good price for this monster toy! Here's the address - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1820691229/grimebrute-soft-vinyl-toy

It's like Toxic Avenger, Sloth from The Goonies and Zollmen all had a massive love child together. A little perplexed by the spiked brass knuckles and Army of Darkness hand, as I don't see the correlation to the rest of the figure. Unless there is none, of course.

From what I read, it's literally just supposed to be a mashup of B movies, kaiju, horror classics, and other things that have inspired him as an artist. Kind of like an ode to everything.

Oh, cool! Thank you for that, Maddie! I guess I should've taken the time to look into that before I made my comment. That's a pretty full package deal, then! I must say, I do like it. I like his Fiji Mermaid, but it's way too small for me to really connect with it. Dude can sculpt, that's for sure.

I already put an amount down for a one off. Gorgoloid is one of my favorite artist. His Fiji Mermaid was awesome and i very much enjoyed his painting on the Awsome Toy Bigfoot which he called "Meh Teh".

So helping him get started on his venture into sofubi is something i would have done anyways.

I'm pretty into this. The references are fun and wacky and it will just be a really oddball piece for the shelves. Als Robert is right I would put him next to a zollmen piece for sure.

Not for me, although his textures are always fantastic (which was why him doing a couple Matango "Mushroom People" runs was a great choice). I wish Barry was doing an original character as his entry into soft vinyl. They're some of my favorite resin sculpts that I own. But yeah, this will sell, with so many popular nostalgic elements to it, allowing him to get his foot in the door to do originals again if he so wishes. And of course it'll definitely expand his fanbase. I see the Zollmen reference, but it's more on the nose than most Zollmen toys. As for the proportions tho, especially noticeable from the back, it does remind me of Zollmen's Burstron. They'd make good shelf mates.

These are the 3 Gorgoloid resin works in my abode (not my images):

Not my cup of tea, but I love Gorgoloid's work in general. He is an uber-talented fellow, and I hope he continues to venture further into the sofubi realm.

Not my cup of tea either, but I respect Gorgoloid's decision to pay tribute to all the things that inspired his work over the years.

@boon velvet If his first vinyl fig was an Avilar, I would have ordered immediately. I loooove birds. Even creepy, lumpy, featherless mutant birds.

@boon velvet that Kaiju Koseki is gorgeous. Not a great time for me to start hunting another toy, but I might not be able to resist that one!

This is the influence for Grimebrute:

I see the resemblance tho. It's the expression and overall proportions. In this case, it truly looks like a coincidence, or perhaps @Rich was also inspired by @sloth. Tho I really don't see more than the facial expression matching up.

toxigon imo is for sure more toxic avenger where grimebrute is sloth inspired. to me this is reburstron meets toxigon but they fused in late 80's. anyone know how tall this guy is? im for sure interested in this sculpt already

Well you picked the right one to like; the Koseki look like the only resin toys left in his shop: http://www.gorgoloid.com/products . There are two versions to choose from too. Not sure which I like more. Maybe the darker one?

@hellointerloper , Avilar is my favorite next to Rhaal (the 2 raw hamburger meat sculpts).

I think it may be time (especially for Western artists) to look for a frame of reference beyond campy genre cinema & 80ies toys. And comparing it to his older work, I can't help feeling that the new sculpt's style is a calculated move...

Is that an attempt at putting a positive spin on 'Rinse - Rehash - Repeat'?
