I've been offered a job in and we will be moving the begining of August.
Just seeing if anyone can offer some advice on nice areas to live that are not to far from and any places to avoid.

We can afford anything $1700 and under. I've been trying Craigs list but it seems like it's all these huge apartment complexes~any suggestions?

Well... I'm moving to Santa Clara area next month. I'm looking at roughly the same price range, so I'll try and let you know what we find.

    Cool!
It's been very weird looking. We would really love a duplex or a small house..anything with a yard because of the dog. But man, it's just like Apartment central. I didn't realize apartment living was such a huge deal.

I've been talking to this woman who will be renting a 3 bedroom mobile home on july 1st. The pictures of the inside look pretty sweet but I have no clue as to what the neighborhood is like. It's in San Jose on El Bosque Dr

    Cupertino is a great place.
Happen to get hired at Apple?
Lots of places to live around here.
I agree with you, it's all about apartments around here.
For the price you mentioned, it's hard to find something great.
Let me know what you're looking for specifically, I'll try to help out.

    Same with you akum6n.
If you still need help, let me know.

yeah..let me know as well. I live in south san jose. But have lived in Mountain View, Campbell, etc.

I personally like Campbell because they have the park/trail there..cool little downtown, trader joes, whole foods, theater etc. It's nice.

If you are looking for supernice there's Los Gatos and Santa Clara and Saratoga. But cupertino, sunnyvale are good too.

I just looked up el bosque and that's more towards milpitas. The good thing is that when you travel to work you'll be going against traffic. But as far as the area I'm not sure.

    Nope no Apple!
I got a job teaching 7th grade English.

Right now we are Central Coasters..San Luis Obispo. So no matter where we move it will be too crowded and not enough open space. But I was told Campbell is nice. I most def. will look around there.

As For Cupertino, I really liked the area around Whole Foods and De Anza. I have to say tho, some of those apartment complexes are gnarly. Like seriously something out of a magazine!

I have also heard Japantown is a nice area.

going against traffic would be ideal! I try to pick up 740am in the morning so I can hear what traffic is like, but all the talk about is Oakland area and the 101. I'm glad we don't have to move to Oakland.

Palo Alto is ideal you could find yourself a nice cottage on a massive mansion property in Atherton, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Portolla Valley, Woodside or Stanford area. PA's got a nice downtown. Or Mountain View, it's got a nice downtown as well. All are around 10-15 min from Cupertino, good luck on the hunt.

    good luck finding a place!

i've been looking for an open teaching spot here in Napa, but no go. It seems like it is super tight right now to get a teaching position, anywhere in CA, so congrats on getting a spot

I thought I saw one on Edjoin a month or so ago. But it is tight right now. Luckly we have the ability to move or else I would be SOL. The district I work in now just instituted a hiring freeze.

Are you single subject or multiple subject? Seems like special ed. teachers are in huge demand.

there are a few openings over here in Napa, but there are more seekers than openings, so it is tough.
i have a multiple subject (Do'h... i've subbed middle school and I LOVE it).

Middle school is great. I did my last student teaching in 6th grade and had a blast. I didn't think I would go middle school, but I was able to add on an authorization in English to my Multiple subjects credential which helped out a bunch.

Right now I'm long term subbing 9th and 10th grade english and it's killer. I don't think I could do High school full time.

how do you add on an authorization?? do you just take the cset on that certain area?

i did a long term at a 6th grade math/science and loved it!

If you majored in a specific subject and have over 20 semester units in that subject you can add on the authorization. If you do not have a BA in that subject you need to take a single subject methodology course and then the CSET in that subject.

It's a bit of a pain to go the second route, but if you know the subject matter well enough then I say go for it. Makes getting middle school jobs easier.

I've been checking out this thing called apartment ratings dot com

I don't know how much of it to believe, but it's basically saying that almost every single apartment complex in the south bay sucks.

I'm sure the 1 bedrooms for $2400 can't suck that bad. We set up a few appointments for memorial day weekend so I will report back on what we find.
