Can anyone out there recommend a decent pair of home bookshelf speakers? I have been doing a bit of online research, but it ultimately boils down to going in somewhere and listening to the various brands. Problem is, there aren't too many places that have listening rooms like they used to. Those that do (Best Buy, Frys, etc.) have a very limited selection.

I also know that speakers, like everything can boil down to personal tastes and the music one listens to through said speaker system.

I'm just trying to get an idea of what you may have in your home and what's good and bad about your choices, if any.

So, far from what I have read, these three brands top a lot of audiophiles lists; Elac, Kef and Klipsch. Their affordable models no less. Anyway, you get where I'm going...

Can't go wrong with Bowers & Wilkins aka B&W.

I've used Klipsch speakers for about 4 years now, no complaints about sound and easy to move

I second that recommendation. I have the step up from the smallest in the 600 bookshelf size speaker & have no qualms about them. I chose B&W b/c they give you the sound that was intended in the recording (they don't add extra bass or brightness) and really fill the room. But whatever you do, don't buy anything without trying them out side by side with other speakers. And go beyond the big box anchor stores - you will probably find something better for about the same price.

I love my Audioengine, paired them with a sub and love the combo. Went with the A2+ for their small size.

Thanks everyone. My biggest obstacle is finding a place that has all of the various, slightly higher end manufacturers to do the testing I'd like to do. The big box stores don't have a selection like I said at the start... Familiar with all the brands, but I do like that two of you recommend B&W's and the fact that they stay true to the og recordings. That certainly has my attention. THANKS AGAIN.

More recommendations are welcome. Especially those where you can state the brand and model you have and how they appeal to you.

Cerwin-Vega! XD3. I looked at a lot of different brands and models beforehand and really liked the sound of these as well as their footprint. If you can a find a pair I highly recommend them, because they pack a ton of sound in a small package that looks good with a solid build.
