I just remembered that i started an I spit on Your Grave(one of the best B-horror movies of all time IMO)over at the "other" forum and caught all kinds of shit from the ladies..Does anyone like this flick..Dont get me wrong,I don't condone rape, it was more the revenge part and just the whole underground look of the film that snagged me..

    JHR,

I have the Elite version with the Joe Bob Briggss commentary and I had never seen it before. I can hoestly say I don't know if I could watch the flick again with out the commentary. Now mind you he was very reverential and was not the normal "hick self" on the commentary. He was insightful and it added alot to the flick telling a lot of back story on the film and it's maker. I can not tolerate rape revenge films at all or any type of brutality to woman. I guess it was my upbringing. I mean when it is totally goofy and not real ala: The Bloody Pit of Horror I am fine but when it is gratuitous and drawn out it makes my skin crawl! I "had" to sit through Blood Sucking Freaks at a freinds getogether once...... never again. That and any type of Animal cruelty or killing so most of the Mondo and cannibal films are out for me. Even had a problem with Apocalypse Now at the end where they kill the Water Buffalo - yeah thye filmed that shit for real!!!

I don't have any problem with those rape revenge movies, I don't like I spit on your grave that much, but I do like Last house on the Left. The animal thing is a lot worse to me, because it's real, I really like Cannibal Holocaust but I can't stand the Animal killing scenes.

Even shit like Flowers of Flesh and blood doesn't really bother me too much, I even put it on at a party to see if I could get a "Charlie Sheen" reaction, the only real movies that I felt bad for even watching aside from anything real were probably the August Underground videos, those are just fucked.

One of the best films i have seen for a long time is 'Funny Games'. I think its German. Check it out, no zombies but its a great serial killer/s flick. Also am wanting to see Long Weekend. Has anyone seen it? I think it was from the 70s and ive heard its a nature fights back horror.

I'm one of those jerks that actually seeks out all those "rough" movies. I like to see how far things can get pushed. but of course I would never condone anything like that, I"m really very PC actually. I think of them more like testaments to an era in filmmaking that we'll probably never really return to, when you could honestly show almost anything and get away with it - graphic cannibal movies, rape revenge, mondo, exploitation, etc. I really like when filmmakers would take the gross out/hard to watch stuff and make it into art films too, something like the Holy Mountain or Salo. I also just like to see people squirm in their seats during uncomfortable moments. good fun.

one of the guys who did FX work on one of those august underground movies ripped me off, so I've vowed never to see them.

    Skyler,
Ripped off or not you should see both August Underground films. I met Fred Vogel last year at Chiller and he cool as hell. I saw Mordum at a horrorfest in oct.03 and this guy sitting next to us started throwing up and he ran out. Funny as hell.

is there really anythign to them other than gore though?

I can't believe I'm asking that, honestly, because I'm a big advocate of movies not having to "mean" something or have some deep underlying message. it's cool if they do, but I have lots of friends that won't sit through a horror movie that's just fluff.

however, that said, sometimes I feel like the extreme gore just for the sake of gore has been a little overdone.

I still haven't seen aftermath/genesis either, but I hear excellent things about it.

Both August films are like finding a video of people just killing and then hanging out and going to a concert. It's not a very coherant movie nor does it suppose to be. There both really disturbing. They go for $30-40 each on dvd, signed or unsigned.Aftermath is also pretty cool. I hope that helps.

They're like the best fake snuff movies.

Have you seen those Necrophagia DVD's? I always liked the first one through eyes of the dead, but I think Killjoy from Necrophagia got involved with Toe Tag somehow and maybe they worked on some of the videos for the second DVD Nightmare Scenarios, and did anybody see that movie they did the effects for called Murder Set pieces? I just remembered about that as I was writing this, I can't believe I still haven't seen it.

Yeah Killjoy is friends with the Toetag guys. He appears in the Mordum movie. Van Bebber did a few Necrophagia vids. As far as Murder set pieces I felt it tried to hard to out-gross the other films of it's ilk. Still worth checking out. Anybody pick up the numberd copy of Canibal Holocaust dvd from Grindhouse? Beautiful print.

Yeah I fucking love Van Bebber, Deadbeat at Dawn is one of my favorite movies.

Can you still get the numbered copy of Cannibal Holocaust? I'm replacing a bunch of DVDs from when I got robbed and I think I'll be able to just buy what I want to replace and get reimbursed for it, Cannibal Holocaust is on my replace list so I'll have to look into that.

I am actually briefly (like, a split second) on that cannibal holocaust dvd, as are some of my good friends. I know the guys who run Exhumed Films, who screen horror double features here in philly monthly. a couple years ago when grindhouse redid their print, they hosted the premiere in a theater right outside of philly, and grindhouse filmed it as a dvd extra. you have to look really hard and fast and know what I looked like years ago, but I'm in there in one of the crowd shots. I know a good amount of the people who actually get interviewed. I don't know why I didn't!

I like Italian horror and some crime stuff, the few that I've seen. for the most part my fascination with gore days have come and gone though. not that I still dont' love a good gorefest, but lately I'm more into watching old gothics or just really off the wall trippy stuff.

trying to catch up on some of the Hammer and Amicus movies I've never seen, watching a lot of grindhouse stuff (psychomania, the undertaker and his pals, HG Lewis, etc.), checking out some Mexican imports (Nostradamus series, the Brainiac, etc.).

I still do love a good giallo though. and Burial Ground is still one of my favorite movies ever, no matter what.

haven't seen it yet, but I"m familiar. it's on the "to buy" list.

you have the Mondo Macabro disc? because I'm pretty sure that's a US disc. I know that they were a UK company first, but he's since switched over to all US releases. unfortunately, he couldn't get the rights to re-release all the movies he had as region 1 discs, like Mystics in Bali for instance.

however, I do have an all region PAL/NTSC player.

In the little less graphic vein, has anyone seen the new call of cthulhu silent movie? I bought it last fall and was shocked by it. I had really low expectations for it since i've been burned by so many bad lovecraft films and homages but it wasn't bad at all. It certainly did the story justice and by using the silent movie era approach, they managed to give it a bit of charm.

Actually, i liked Dunwich Horror too for some reason... I think it's more because of that early 70's horror style than the story.

I recently finished reading a zombie fiction anthology called The Undead. It's definitely worth checking out. Some gems in there, and some dogs, but overall it was good.

Someone mentioned Cannibal Holocaust. UGH. I have a very vivid memory of watching that while eating eggplant parmigana, the day that Commerce Secretary Ron Brown died in a plane crash. Did they ever release a soundtrack for it? I have a soundtrack for Cannibal Ferox (a.k.a. Make Them Die Slowly) and Zombie 2 (a.k.a. Zombie) that's really good.

I have been reluctant to buy that COC movie for the same reasons, but the good review you've given it is the 2nd or 3rd I've heard now, so I probably will check it out. I wasn't aware that it was silent though.

the Dunwich Horror is great. it's got that great psychadelic vibe to it.

I do believe there is a Cannibal Holocaust soundtrack, but it's probably an italian cd release. I usually get all my soundtracks from Footlight Records in NYC, who specializes in musicals and film scores. they have an excellent selection from all over the world, categorized by country.

I had the Mondo Alucard release but it was robbed with all my other shit, I also saw it at a Horror film fest once, I liked it, I think I'll have to get it again.

I hear about that COC silent movie awhile ago and then I just saw it at the video store the other day, I'm going to have to rent it, looks pretty cool and I've been hearing good things about it.

Anyone seen Lemora, a childs tale of the supernatural? I just thought of that one when you brought up Alucarda for some reason, I really like that movie.

I haven't seen most of the hardcore gore films talked about on here (Cannibal Holocaust, Murder Set Pieces, etc.) but I recently watched a movie called The Descent (new U.K. film from the director of Dog Soldiers) and it was fantastic. I just ordered that COC film, it looks super interesting.

This doesn't qualify as strict horror, but I recently watched Sympathy For Lady Vengeance and it is super messed up.

Sympathy for lady vengance? Not sympathy for Mr. Vengance?

Have you heard of some Korean movie, where it's a troop of soldiers who encounter some supernatural stuff? I can't remember what it's called but I think it's pretty new, it just said on the cover that it was the best military meets the supernatural film since dog soldiers, which I really liked.

I liked the descent to, I think it's supposed to have a North American theatrical release this summer, so that will be cool.

Lady Vengeance is the third film in the trilogy (Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Lady Vengeance). If you liked the other two, you should really check it out.

The other Korean film is called R-Point. I really liked that movie a lot. It has a lot more originality than most Asian horror that has come out lately, which now all seem to be rip-offs of The Ring or Ju-on.

Did anyone see a French zombie film called The Came Back? I've heard really mixed things about it, some people said it was great, some people really hate it. I'm curious to hear more about it before I watch it.

Yeah I've seen Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr vengance and I knew it was a trilogy but I had no idea that was the name of the third film, I'll have to check it out.

Yup R Point, I'm going to rent that to.

I'de never heard of "they came back" before, just googled it and reviews do look pretty mixed.
