alright. we don't need to explain to you or anyone else why we hate something. we hate it because we don't like it - that's what hate is I personally hate the way it all looks. I hate the culture a lot of it is spawned from and continues to perpetuate. I hate the way it's marketed. I hate most grafitti. I also don't like a lot of cartoony looking indie comics. I hate how it's not 50% toy 50% punk meanwhile, many of the things that are associated with japanese vinyl are things I've stood for/been interested in my whole life and I don't want to see them simply become the next big trend - monsters, kaiju, horror movies, punk rock, etc basically, I see much of the KR stuff as having a "yo son, what up?!!" all-over-print hoodie wearing attitude, something I'm not that into I see much of the newer wave of Japanese vinyl scene as having a "fuck you!" leather jacket/studded belt, spiky hair wearing attitude, something I love is that all reason enough for me to dislike something?
No problem Missy. Again. Im not trying to hate. Am I the only one that doesnt take this shit too seriously?
Fuck Art, Let's Kill. the greatest thing chemlab commited to t-shirt alot better than Fuck Killing, Let's Fuck.
whatever dude, the things I dislike about this board are people like you. We have something in common, we dislike eachother
Sorry man..."Post Your Hoodie Pics"? If you still can't see why you're being treated as if this were your first night in prison, ya ain't never gonna get it...
i'm walking away from this. this community has a lot of people who are close friends of mine. i respect all of them, and therefore i stick up for them when the need arises.
On a very serious note though, I apologize to all of you if I offended any of you, yes even you atease, accept it or not. It was not my means, but I can only be pushed so much just as anyone else before I break. Lets close this discussion because there is no winning for either of us. We will always like what we like and you cant change anyones descision on that. Can we agree to disagree? And I do respect very much and love women of all sorts. Like I said I only disrespect when im disrespected and Im glad that you stood up for her, as a man should. I come in peace.
we take this shit seriously because it's something we care about and brings a lot of us together. I admit that some people around here probably do take it too seriously, but I think you'd find that over on KR as well (in fact, I'm SURE of it). if we weren't to take it so seriously sometimes, it would just deteriorate into some bullshit trend with fly-by-night collectors who would jack up prices on toys they don't really care about and are going to sell/trade off as soon as the next "cool" thing comes along. we try to prevent that around these parts by trying trying to educate people on some of the DIY/collector first ethics we associate with this and weed out some of the people that are here to make money on something that's limited/popular. I personally would rather have it be all people that I know are in it for life, but that's just me...
you did. i accept that we can agree to disagree. it's kooky how a little joking around switches tone so quickly. we all get heated from time to time, but this place means a lot to me, including the people and the toys. i'm letting it be.
If it is your toy, you can do anything you want with it (paint it, burn it, shred it, piss on it). Doesn't matter if it is the only one in the world. And then, if someone is willing to buy, you can try to sell it if you want to. These are toys. Lumps of (probably toxic) plastic with a bit of paint sprayed on them. To even try to formulate some sort of creed, philosophy, prohibitions, or rules of toy customizing is just silly and elitist. People ("in-groups" as well as individuals) should try to avoid forcing their purely subjective opinions on others as being the only acceptable way. Unfortunately, that is a fairly standard pattern of behavior here; and I predict it will never change. Historically, at least, this board has been a place to sing the praises of the party line under some kind of hypcritical banner of righteousness, and to ridicule, shame, or cast out anyone who disagrees. It's a shame really. It would almost be funny if it wasn't so sad and stupid.
Very true, but if you do it on here (and the general opinion is that it's crap), prepare to be harangued. Such is "life" on a messageboard.
you're right, you can do whatever you want to it. just don't buy the only one in the world with the intent to charge 10X what you paid and make a real die hard collector suffer because of it. and they're very important to some of us so I'm an elitist then. in fact, I rather like the way that sounds...the "toy elite" I think I attempted to explain above why many of us here try to instill "rules" because it seems when we don't try to police it, we get shit on by flippers and people who just don't really care about it. also, by you telling me that I should try to avoid forcing my views on others, you are forcing your views on me. just saying. whatever
Sorry, but this is a very selfish point of view, which totally disrespects the culture and artistry of kaiju designers, as well as the collectors who care about their work. Yeah, maybe these are "lumps of (probably toxic) plastic with a bit of paint sprayed on them." And a Van Gogh painting is a stretched canvas with paint thrown on it... You're mistaking "elitism" for responsiblity and concern (for the toys, designers, and fellow collectors). The thing that really bothers me about new and casual toy collectors is they look at limited kaiju like a loaf of Wonderbread - ie, a commodity off the shelf that can be bought/replaced any time. Take some time - learn about this stuff, where it comes from, and how much kaiju companies put into each release. Treat it (and other collectors) with respect. Over time, all the pieces will fall into place, and you'll start to "get it".
said very well....i think that's why some of us, namely me, get upset when we see weird stuff go on over here, hence the "elitism" that sometimes comes out. at the end of the day, we are all here for a reason..to talk about toys. i still for the life of me can't figure out why i got so fired up earlier. to continue the "love in" as it were, i'm apologizing for blowing up in the thread.
I think I do "get it." I have been collecting and studying kaiju for many years. I have even commonplace pieces that I would never touch with paint, let alone my rare pieces. Even the most "insignificant" pieces give me an unaccountable amount of pleasure. To me, they are a kind of treasure. But that's my personal opinion. I don't force it on others, or make fun of them if they disagree. I don't object to people expressing their personal opinions. But it really bothers me when people force their subjective opinions on others like some kind of "moral majority." To me, that is the ultimate form of disrespect.
