People who are too fragile to read things on this board (and the Internet in general) probably shouldn't be putting themselves out there.

With than being said, I do think a fair majority of people are rude without having any sort well worded input as to what they don't like. They just post something short and shitty and 'walk' away. See my comments in the Brickboy thread for an example of what I am talking about, both in the sense of what people say, and how I think it should be said.

Let me just say that I do think that 95%+ of customs suck. Some people can do it. Many, many people can't, and shouldn't, or at least shouldn't post pictures of how they wrecked a toy.

Being a designer myself, I don't give a shit if someone trashes what I've done. I just want them to tell me why it's horrible in their eyes.

amen! some love what i do - others dont - but at least have the reason why you hate something and bring it to the table rather than drop a douche-bomb comment and walk away

never said anything about being too fragile - it's all just BS and makes many people just look down on a certain crowd.

look at it from the other side - how many people would be ballsy enough to say the things they do here to someone's face?

and if they would say those things i imagine they would be considered a complete asshole

why does the internet make it OK? because it is easier to hide and not take responsibility for being rude?

Oh, I don't know... I think it's better than misleading someone into thinking that they have a shot as a professional in a field they have no place being in.

In any given major in college, you just KNOW that a good percentage of students should change their majors to something else.

Conversely, how many people would be ballsy enough to walk up to you and ask you to critique their work on the spot?

yeah - the only way you learn is by growing from constructive crits - in school - that is the first thing i learned - to take shit you dont want to hear/believe - because you always think your work is better than or not as good as - someone viewing it from the outside

Did you even read my entire post?

The fragile comment was mostly toward playdohpunk who intentionally gave his tickets to non-RFSO people who are babies when it comes to reading things on the Internet.

I did a double major in college and one major was Studio Art. We had group critiques where the ppor stuff got ripped up. Same with my creative writing classes.

After college, I've gone to alot of open studios where artists open their studios to the public and show their work. I'm obviously not going to tell someone that I don't even know, if I think their work sucks. I'll just do a quick look, and turn around and leave if I think its garbage. And that has to be hard for some people.

I think the paintings, drawings and DIY sculpts get favorable critiques for the most part as these artists are actually creating something from their imagination and they have the skills and energy to make something out of nothing.

The whole paint a custom thing is still paint by numbers to me. It's not some earth shattering new platform of the future. If I look at Bwana (who also does prints) or PK's work, I can almost imagine it on a canvas. Most customs, I can't do that with, cause they're so lame.

I've tried staying out of the customs forum cause I got so tired of seeing lame customs and didn't want to say something to someone that would cause tears. But if you post photos of some lame sophomoric project, I would expect to hear some flames.

And flames have been around since Usenet.

i know what you mean... but the dramatics just aren't necessary. if someone should not be a professional... as a teacher it is your responsibility to give that student the corresponding grade and guidance

not embarrass them and physically destroy something they made

could you imagine your history professor balling up your essay on 17th centure mercantilism and eating it in front of the class?

a failing grade will keep someone away from a particular profession just as much as taking a public dump on it will

and i think that as few people would ask strangers what they think of a piece of work they have done as those people would offer a rude response. the keyboard makes everyone braver i guess.... or much less tactful anyway

    bottom line is:

Have thick skin ,but an open mind - some crits hold truth you can grow from

.....or dont post pics of your work on the internet for all to see and comment on

I think in a subjective field like art and design, you have to be taught to have a thick skin with criticism. If it doesn't come from a teacher, it can come from an employer, a customer, or an anonymous internet poster...

Guidance is part of teaching, but you also have to prepare people for failure and rejection. If they can't handle it early, they are most likely not going to be able to handle it as a professional.

sure i read it. you reiterated a lot of what i have been saying about rudeness and all that

i was replying to the fragile thing

and i didnt know it was directed to playdoh and not what i have been saying

but still i dont think it's being a baby... how would you feel if you had something you were proud of on display and a stranger walked up to you and said to your face "your work sucks" and walk off. i dont care who you are, more than likely this is going to sting a little somewhere

what i was trying to say is -- why does the internet make that practice any different?

but i think we are nearing the same page here :)

This is really quick, and off the top of my head, but here goes some criticism:

What is that yellowish blob on the back of the purple hedorah?
Why does the blue base abruptly change to purple?

With the Ika, why did you make the base black?
It's supposed to be a single creature but it just highlights that its four pieces.

The next Hedorah is just ugly to look at.
Colours seem flat and then there's that metallic blue.

    A red/orange TTToy. Whatever.

I can barely recognize the next TTToy cause of the camera angles.

    A green Hedorah? Boring.
The other one is vaguely interesting but i would never desire it.

The last two, again, just boring. The paint brings nothing to the sculpts, especially with the last one.

But who has time to do this for some anonymous artist on the internet?
I have barely enough time to keep up with news and information.

so you purposely, and with malice, subverted the system Super7 had put in place to assure its best customers would have the best chance to get products their products.

    Way to go!

No -- we're totally on the same page. I think the way a lot of people comment on other's (albeit shitty) customs isn't really necessary at all. The Internets makes people feel high and mighty, and gives them the anonymity that they desire to be as shitty as possible.

As for someone bashing my work, I wouldn't put myself in the position in the first place. If I had something that I personally knew was subpar, I wouldn't be showing it off to anyone.

I guess I should've made it more clear who that comment was directed towards. I think purposely giving out tickets to non-board members is the lowest thing I've ever heard of concerning this community.

If someone has the time to open a thread, look at pictures, scroll down, hit reply and type "Wow, this really sucks the fart out of a dead chicken's asshole." then they can take the time to write something at least slightly worth reading.

On the same note, if you really hate it, why post anything -- to make your post count higher, or to make the poster feel like a dumbass?

i know what you mean. i am still scared the drawings i put up in my monster drawings thread are going to get pooped on even though no one is asking for feedback.

i think people are not posting there just what should be fun stuff for fear someone else is going to tell them it is awful.

or maybe i am just a jackass with a boring thread that no one actually wants to post in !! :o

liquidsky - thanks you for actually breakin it down and giving me your thoughts - its much betetr to read stuff like that instead of "hey douche yer art sux"

and there is a big difference between crits and spouting off at the mouth - i have no problem receiving crit from anyone - and am happy Liquid broke it down - but to read asshole-ish comments that have no basis is a waste of time and no one should get hurt over stuff like that

    - its entire back ibump s a faded green/yellow fuzz - shitty pic that maybe doesnt show that effect off as well

    - it was my second airbrush custom ever and as seen - havent worked out my fade technique quite yet - needs better transition between the colors i agree

that IKA - titled "swamp IKA" is supposed to be rising from a dark or black lagoon - thus the ikas top clear head faded into glass green and then into dank black ooze - i do now understand the whole "now its clearly 4 pieces viewpoint - as I hope you now see what i tried to achieve by coloring it this way

    - the colors are vibrant in person - not liking that MET BLUE are ya?

A red/orange TTToy. Whatever. its 3 color fades orange to red to purple and I think is the best color transition fade I have achieved to date

uh its a GRUS - pretty obvious i though no? not digging the color fades over the clear there?!

Seems you just dont dig these but not really sure why - one word crits arent very helpful - although I dont expect ya to write a paragraph on each so lets keep movin'

fair enuff - i am seeing that you just dont like what I have done with these although these now belong t oothers who have enjoyed how they turned out!

Im sincere when i thank you for the breakdown - much better than some hatred drivel I get from some other "members" here
