Great catch on those pants, I admit I didn't even notice as I was preoccupied with the song playing as he wss rolling the barrel - Glenn Yarbrough (of the Limelighters and Kinsgton Trio)! [song was titled "Take My True Love By The Hand (Times A-Gettin' Hard)," for anyone curious] I know, I know, who cares about some no-name folk singer from the 70s, right? Well let's just say I recognised him immediately from his voice and style, having been ingrained on my conciousness for being part of the Rankin-Bass Hobbit film. :) Anyways, made me grin like an idiot.

But getting back to the show, I have to agree with Dean's analysis, but the one thing that really bothers me is the pace and progression of this last part of the season. I guess I am in minority with not being that impressed by the episode. It just seems like they are rushed now to wrap things up and trying to throw intensity and death at the audience just for the sake of it. Well, we'll see how it goes from here. I expect some kind of redemption from Walt, but ultimately nothing that he will walk away from, nor is he going to come out of it looking like the good guy (in my mind).

I totally called the Hank dying thing, and even I was surprised. Great episode, cannot wait until next week. Walt is goin to New Hampshire ! As for theories, I'm sure Walt is going to come back for his money, Skyler and the kids at this point are a no go. Once they have Holly they are gonna get the hell out of Dodge. Jesse is a no go, because he got Hank killed (not on purpose of course), and the M60 is to deal with the Aryans...At least thats what I am thinking, maybe we will all just be thrown a curve ball next week.... Either way I had no doubts but this last episode cements the fact that this is the best show on television.

Mr. Yarborough appeared on "Sesame Street" when I was a kid, and one of my favorite childhood LPs was "Through Children's Eyes" by The Limliters, and I'm always curious about the music used on "Breaking Bad" when I don't recognize it, so big thanks for the info!

As I see it, they had to rush. They wanted another full season, but AMC wouldn't fund it, so they agreed to the split 8-episodes-each final season a year earlier than desired, and hadn't even written the final eight episodes while filming the penultimate eight. As of last November, they realized "oh damn, we've got so much more story to tell, and only eight episodes in which to do it!" Vince and the writers took a chance on super-compressing some elements (e.g. Walt Jr. learning the truth) and allowing others more time to develop. There's no way they could please everyone. My view is that they're more concerned with the proper end to every loose thread than spectacle, but at the same time, knowing they'd have to work some emotional and "action" spectacle in, we got this jam-packed episode. Vince says that
"Ozymandias" is the greatest episode of them all, so I don't expect the final two to necessarily top it in terms of volume of events, but we'll see. There will surely be more bloodshed, and that's what some fans want more than anything, but it's not what the show's creators value the most.

That's very possible. We know that they'll leave the house, but on the other hand, the cops are already on the way, who knows what Marie will do, and perhaps most importantly, Walt has given Skyler a possible "out" by making her look like more of a victim than she actually is. Hard to say what's going to happen to the surviving family (or Andrea and Brock,) but I'm seriously hoping no harm. The fallout of Walt's corruption has already been made amply clear.

Interesting links there from the last episode; obviously they think out a lot of the show, and I can appreciate the foreshadowing and subtle detail. Not something you get to see much on network television shows.

You are probably right Dean, I didn't realise the production issues were like that. I never like to see anything rushed, and especially something that has a lot of potential. I respect Vince trying to finish it off right and give the fans a great show and conclusion.

I'm just going to go ahead and post my crackpot, insane analysis/prediction.
Todd and Lydia are the new Jesse and Heisenberg.
Walt and Jess are the Gus and Gale. Or in broad terms, they have run there course in the drug game, just like Crazy 8, Tuco etc and etc, and replacements are coming in.
Out with the old, in with the new.
    The pattern can be seen.

I'm already prepping myself for a No Country for Old Men/MacBeth/Layer Cake/Scarface ending.
    Bad guy wins.
    Everyone else "good" dies.
And the crystal blue continues to be cooked.
    The cycle continues.
There is no "real" ending. Just for these characters.

Now how it all plays out is another thing.
I've always had this feeling Jesse would be the one to put the bullet into Walt's head, but I got this pit in my stomach telling me it could be Todd.
Or Jesse kills Walt, and Todd kills Jesse.
And the two bodies in the bin of acid to be disposed of. Just like the collection that Jesse and Walt have left behind in their wake.

But seriously, who know and we'll all see. I think we all know that Vince Gilligan is one step ahead of us and hit us where we least expect.

    So good, it hurts.

Walt will wake up to his birthday breakfast that Skyler has made the bacon in the shape of the number 50 and Walt will say you won't believe the dream I had.

    No..... :) Just kidding.

I would be so bummed if it ended that way, and yeah Ecko its a pretty ridiculous realization. So many of the shots/mannerisms of Walt this season directly emulate Gus. Did you look at the EW article that Dean posted? It's crazy, especially the comparison of Gus to Jesse.

I'm not sure if this was picked up anywhere and I posted this on the EW article but I noticed when Walt is driven away by the "cleaners" van, they show his reflection in the mirror and as the van drives away it fades to black. Since the episode I have wondered if this is the last we will see of the present day Walt/Heisenberg and if the last two episodes will only be Walt in the future. The face fading to black could also be a foreshadowing to the death of WW/Heisenberg. Guess we wait and see!

I always, admittedly, have trouble spotting the foreshadowing so if I am right about this I am giving myself a future high five! If it was already mentioned, then I guess I am not the only one who saw this.

Good call man! That would be an interesting thing for them to do, and it would work with the way that the story is going... hmmmm, but I feel like they still have to show that Walt is in "New Hampshire" to clear up any question.... We shall wait and see I suppose. Still solid theory.

The EW article raised the question of the crying clown figurine, but didn't really "answer" it. It's ceramic. It's fragile. It's being put into a padded box. It might break.

Is the clown crying or laughing? What would you do if your money went to Ted or Todd?

    Dean for the win.

And, as they mentioned at the A.V. Club, an Emmy for Holly.

    Brilliant comparison, Dean.

    Also found these tidbits.

    Last episode is called Felina.
    Anagram for Finale.
Character in the story of Grateful Dead's "El Paso" track.
    Or:
Fe - Iron: Key component of Blood.
Li - Lithium: Key component of meth.
Na - Sodium: Key component of tears.

    Blood, Meth and Tears.

"Back in El Paso my life would be worthless.
Everything's gone in life; nothing is left.
It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden
My love is stronger than my fear of death....

...Felina is strong and I rise where I've fallen,
Though I am weary I can't stop to rest.
I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle.
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest.
From out of nowhere Felina has found me,
Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side.
Cradled by two loving arms that I'll die for,
One little kiss and Felina, good-bye. "

Excerpt from the Song El Paso by Marty Robins
It seems like this has to be a direct link to the idea behind the name of the episode, being that Felina isn't a very common name, I think the name of the episode can very well be the elements as well though. I hope Vince Gilligan does some sort of "Tell All" about the writing of the show, and all the little easter eggs, and meanings behind names and such.

Of course it's going to be used - Checkov's rule! I'd say either suicide or replacement Splenda in Darth Vader in Louboutins' tea.

Really curious to see what goes on in the next episode. Was quite a lot going on in the newest episode and the way Walt talked to Skyler was brutal. Even though Hank was in such a tight situation with him inching his way towards the gun, I really did not expect his death. Crazy stuff!

If its coincidence, then they might as well be playing the lottery while they are at it!

Also, heads-up for those who haven't heard, these next two episodes are going to be 15mins longer than the usual!
