Anything that damages Meta/Zuckerberg is good. But the damage that has already been done to IG won't be undone by selling it off to another entity.
Sad but true. Stumbled across this: https://techcrunch.com/2022/01/05/instagram-chronological-feed/ Small "win" (using the term loosely) only due to FB/Meta/Fuckerverse catching so much heat from Congress atm. Sweet. Already looking forward to the myriad sponsored ads between every 2-3 chronological posts in the near future!!! *insert partytime emoji x3*
I don't see the chronological option being rolled out to the web interface yet. What I did notice when posting today is that the web interface allows you to choose an aspect ratio of the photo as well as add alternate text for people using accessibility options. Thumbs up to both of these.
Anyone having issues logging into Instagram? Normally it's not a biggie if it's down, but I need to get some toys out to someone, and get an addy through the messaging system. Ugh!
Finally got back into IG, but it took two days. Seems there were some major hot spot problem areas, California being a red zone. Here's a handy dandy outage map for you @Roger . FYI, the outage I experienced, affected web, phone, and ipad logins. IG is vital for keeping track of product releases, especially sofubi and a lot of artist announcements! Having an outage is no fun. https://outage.report/instagram
I figured it out. Instagram wanted my birthday. What I had to do was install the app, choose my birthday, and then the web version of the app worked.
That's it? They kept pestering me to "SEND NUDEZ PLZ". I finally had to give in to keep up with toy releases. Our hobby is hard.
How weird! Seems like an invasion of privacy. If you didn't use the app, and only used the web version, do you think that would work? Blake, you're so right! A lot of artists for all sorts of things use IG as a sales platform now. We'd be locked out of collecting new stuff without access. Scary to think eh?
They are surely including it as part of all the marketing data they collect, but I can imagine the birthdate is also being used to control display of certain content, perhaps for account recovery too.
The app version is getting very frustrating to use. My now feed starts off with only one or two posts from people I follow, often from a day or two ago when there have been more recent posts of theirs. After those posts from people I follow, a bunch of recommendations for people that have nothing to do with the people I follow. They're usually stupid prank videos and such. And then advertising, nearly every other posts. There is a new Favorites feature that is very difficult to manage. I don't know if I should even bother trying to set it up because again, I would like to see peoples' posts in chronological order and it looks like Instagram is against that. At least Twitter gives you that option. The web Instagram is still pretty good, I find myself using it more and more these days.
Yeah, I uninstalled the app from my Android phone. I just bookmarked the three or four accounts that I need to check for new stuff coming out, and check like the old days with blogs. I've pretty much stopped scrolling for fun. Too much garbage.
The Feed and explore are now total garbage. But you can hide suggested posts for 30 days. Even better if you update the app and tap the Instagram logo you can choose following. This gives you a chronological feed of only accounts you follow with no ads or suggested posts. Just like the good ol’ days.
See, I thought the Following view _was_ the feed because of the check mark in the icon, so I never selected it. I like this app again.
Not sure if I mentioned this earlier, but I changed my old account to hellointerloperarchive and made my new one hellointerloper. It’s a lot more of a personal IG though, I’ll post toys occasionally.
I’m really disappointed in this change, this is exactly what I don’t want. I want to see content from the people I follow. …that’s why I follow them. I’m interested in their stuff, not the crappy meme videos and underwear ads that they show me. This would be an opportune moment for another company to swoop in with a new image-sharing app.
In an ideal world, someone would have set up a Mastodon instance for toys several years ago and we'd be using that.
Every toy post is now going to be a lazy susan turnaround set to a song you haven't heard in 10 years.
