    Hey Skullbrain!

I've probably met a few of you IRL at conventions. My name is Jared I'm on instagram as littledevilsclub. I collect 80s vintage SD horror stuff, Bandai, Tomy, Yonezawa etc. also video game, monster, and youkai sofubi from current makers that echo a similar vibe to the vintage stuff. Huge fan of anything Hino or Umezz or Dracula / Frankenstein / Universal Monsters and am a huge sucker for sofubi plush and walkers.

I made this account a DECADE AGO (holy shit -______-) to lurk and research and kinda forgot I did haha. I love talking about this stuff and look forward to joining the conversation and showing you some of the goofy shit I have been fortunate enough to add to my toy hoard...

    Heyo,
I'm tim out in the puget sound, i moved from indiana but originally from south florida. i like punk stuff but usually just go for the oldies station these days. I collect a bunch of different things from tiki mugs, comics, toys, various paper vapor, and old mineral magazines. i got into underground toys from Brandon at Man or Monster (Bognar!) after buying his used figs at a "flea market" in town. Because he was doing motu style figs i was introduced to resin toys. Sofubi was always a mystery hidden behind high price tags and long boat rides across the ocean. Now I'm fortunate enough to have a job that goes a little further than just paying the bills and some time right before the pandemic i took the plunge with my first soft vinyl toy. Because i fear long shipping times i have tended to gravitate toward more western makers. Some of my favorite craftsmen are Bwana, Splurrt, Jon Rampage, and Grody Shogun to name a few.

I'm really excited to get down and start posting photos of my toys and whatnot. I have been on the hunt for a good old school style message board since my old one shut down and after reading a ton of threads i think we will get along like a dream. I'll try not to be too over excited but after looking and trying a bunch of different things i finally found that feeling i had when i heard my first punk band. I am glad for companies like Mile High for dispelling some of the mystery of toy production but the punk pressure of "it was easy, it was cheap, go and do it" is grinding me down that i haven't put out my own toy yet. For now i'll just post photos, be positive, and try to stay out of the way

    ps.
sorry for the ramble, I shouldn't have done this stoned

    Hello :D

My name is Rodrigo, I'm from Mexico, and on October 20, 2023 I started collecting sofubi and art toys and serigraphs of bands I like.

Something about me is that I'm very friendly, I like to know about creativity and imagination, I like music in general (I try to be a drummer), and currently I work as a project manager in a company dedicated to plastic injection.

Since I was a child I have been fascinated by music and movies, this has helped me to create a concept of the things that attract me today. I remember watching many times the making of MJ's Thriller, and the whole creative process of doing the make-up, the werewolf and all that, at that time I could also watch and be fascinated by the movie "Jason and the Argonauts". It blew my mind to see all those monsters on the screen.

As a teenager I officially started collecting legos (Batman movie) as well as NECA figures, Freddy, Jason, Hellraiser (Pinhead), etc.

Now that I am a functioning adult I started with sofubi, and I have found a fascination for every piece I have found and the story behind it. In this case my favourite piece so far has been Cinema Monster by Splurrt.

My expectation is to keep learning in this group about everything behind each creation, and of course, to have camaraderie with the members of the group.

Welcome @roy_2002! Good to have you hear. I think you'll find some fella Mexicans on the board with great taste in toys, and a really nice intro into the scene with Joe's CM.

    Hi everyone!

I'm Francisco from Mexico City, I started collecting sofubi 4 years ago but I've always been collecting other kinds of toys, gunpla and video games. The moment I started with sofubi I fell in love with the variety of ideas, sculpts and colors, and I've found quite interesting the story and creative process behind every piece, so I decided to shift my collecting to sofubi mainly.

My collection is not quite focused yet, I mostly get pieces that I find interesting in concept or aesthetically pleasant, but I find miniature sofubi quite charming and have quite a few of them. I also started custom painting sofubi since I used to do that when building gunpla.

I hope to learn from all of you and share the process of collecting these awesome toys.

    Hi guys!

Finally got some time to write an introduction here. My name is Kseniia (heavenlytoycreatures on IG) and I'm from Ukraine which is pretty far away from any possible country where any sofubi collectors may reside hehe. Thankfully i'm not alone here in this hobby and my husband is heavily invested into collecting too, which is honestly ABSOLUTELY terrible for our financial decisions since neither of us can say no to any new toys.

We've stepped on this path around 5-ish years ago and became obsessed! I mainly collect grumble toy & cat themed sofubi with some other occasional things that I find weirdly cute and small(the tinier the better!). Meanwhile my husband invested most of his attention in Elegab creations and I absolutely support and endorse that, Nari san is a genius and overall an amazing human being!

Collecting has been a great way for us to escape realities that we live in and maintain our mental health, you know that great feeling when you won a lotto or scored a long-awaited toy for a fairly nice price! Meeting new amazing and talented people who are also very passionate about the same things is also a huge plus about collecting. Been blessed to find some friends in this big community!

Other than sofubi we are pretty much into collecting some music on vinyl, tattoo books (husband is a tattoo artist) and any art books or comics that we enjoy! I've also started making felted toys about a year ago as a hobby and that was the best thing ever after allowing sofubi in my life!

p.s. sorry for any grammar mistakes, i've been learning English for over 25 ears now but grammar is my weakness, i hate it

Welcome to the forum @Heavenlytoycreatures! Great to have you here, and of course your husband by association, too. Wonderful choices on things to collect, and especially fun as there is always such new and creative output coming from both these artists. Although it is not neatly the same at all, I think many of us can relate to how collecting silly toys can bring happiness and joy (and distraction), especially in difficult times. Wishing you all of the best.

    Hey everyone!

My name is David. Long time lurker, but my account just got approved so I'll be more active. This forum has been such a fantastic resource for me, so I'm happy to be able to contribute as best I can. I live in the Twin-Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) and have yet to meet anyone into sofubi, but perhaps that might change on here. I'm a UX Designer working in Ed-Tech, but my hobbies are photography, illustration, design, tattoos, sofubi...

I originally began collecting toys in the early 2000s (mostly old kozik and other "art toys"), but I lost a large part of my collection to water damage and wasn't exactly ready to start all over again.

Slowly I've been collecting again, but now I'm mostly interested into Kaiju and sofubi. I prefer the more stylized sculpts and colorways rather than overly detailed stuff – and I'm a sucker for my glowies and all things adorable.

I'm getting to relive my childhood again and I've been having an absolute blast.

    Hi everyone!

My name is Edward and I’m currently living in Houston.

I collect cassette tapes and before sofubi I didn’t have a collecting interest in toys. I currently don’t own any sofubi yet. I was introduced by a recent raffle for the brain dead and Godzilla collaboration. My number was drawn for the raffle but my credit card flagged the transaction as suspicious so I was passed over for the goji. But that set my mind on fire and I started learning trying to find more knowledge on sofubi which led me here! I’m on a quest for my first and I’d like it to be a new Godzilla, I think.

    Happy to be here!

    Edward

Sorry about the raffle. I don't think it was managed particularly well. But if it's what brought you here, I'd say it was worth it. You are going to have sooooo much fun.

Yeah it’s a bummer but I’m sure that by absorbing info here I’ll find something I like even more! Alls well that ends well.

    Hello.
My name is Bryan, currently living in the Los Angeles area. New to the sofubi scene, but it's been a blast so far. Been collecting crab and crustacean adjacent sofubi, just because. Anything to feed the heart, right?

That was a Sarujirushi figure I believe. There is a thread here on them, but not a ton of info in it. They are relatively new to the Godzilla world compared to brands like M1 or Marusan, but have made some really nice stuff. The storyboard Godzilla they make is highly coveted.

yeah I have looked into them a little bit since then. I think I’d like my first piece to be Marusan but honestly that might just be because I don’t know enough about different toy makers yet. I enjoyed looking through that thread, thanks for sharing!

    S'mae Skullbrain!
I'm Ryan and my collecting started in 2019 with Glyos, I'd picked up odd bits and pieces since then but my sofubi obsession took off after taking up ceramics last year, I find it all really inspiring in lots of different ways. Loved reading through some of the threads here and excited to learn more. Here's some rough and ready snaps of my collection.
