posting that picture of a TTToy figure lead a board memeber to send me a link to an auction on eBay for a black and a blue/clear version. I guess it is better to speak up than to shut up.

I have to say that in the past few days I have been thinking a private board could be a good idea. I would be willing to pay a yearly fee if it helped to weed out the non collector types. It may be a good way to help insure that members come first before profit sharing on ebay !

When the idea for this site popped into my homies head I was definitely against it....I pleaded with Ramos that it would be the beginning of the end....He first told me about the KR site and how I should take a look but I thought most of the people were uninformed lames. I remember we would stage fake fights to cause some excitement and even had our posts bumped because they thought we were really serious....too funny. Hey Ramos, you never did meet me in front of TT to settle our dilemma did we? In fact, we never even said we were friends because we thought it would be funnier that way! After that situation , I gladly encouraged him because I wasn't going over there to really find out anything , since I could give a shit about [expletive deleted], or locos, or whatever wack shit they were selling. So needless to say, I was glad to see Skullbrain.org come into fruition. The people I have meet here have been really cool and shared with me as much info. as I have shared with them and have turned me onto and helped me get stuff I thought was previously unattainable. Keeping things a secret just doesn't make sense to me...I mean, take for instance me and Ramos meeting...we were introduced by a mutual friend who thought we should meet because he said our apts. looked alike. It was dope to meet someone and find out they had the same love and collected almost the same stuff...it was like I had a brother I had never met and I finally met him..Which is how I feel with the community here. Sure you get some people that are into it for profit and not for the love , but there are people like that everywhere. I used to get really angry with this , but I really don't care anymore because these people who are in it for the dollars usually play themselves out and show their true colors. And as for all the new people , thats great, the more the better. If you like it , you will continue and eventually grow to love it, like most of us here, and if they don't, you most likely can scoop their stuff up when their infatuation dies down...Just look at the B/S/T forum...Ika-Gilas anyone?

i can see the good and the bad side of that.
the bad side would be that it would create a very exclusive tight knit group of people(which isnt bad). however, it would make it very hard for new people to get turned onto these crazy japanese vinyl toys that we like to own and talk about and hypothesize about. i most likely wouldn't be here, if it was a private board, because when i first came over the only thing i owned was about 3 SB figures(from the S7 halloween releases). i didnt know anything(i know a little bit more now...but i am still learning).

the good side would be that i could say whatever i wanted to say over here, and not get completely shit on over on the KR board, receive ridiculously threatening PM's over there, and singled out for some, IMO, harmless comments.

it is a delicate thing...but if this was to go the route of a private/exclusive board, i would also be willing to chip in some cash-ola to help with the expenses. at this point, at this very minute in time, i don't really care if we are excluding others.

and yes... i fully expect to see this post(or bits and pieces of this) posted over on the KR board.

i agree with maz...i didn't own a single piece of JP vilyl when i started posting and i still have stuff at the celga office waiting to ship. i'd be willing to pay a yearly fee but you do run the risk of becoming an exclusive club. that has good points and bad points...hmmmmm.

I'm so down for an exclusive pay board...shit is getting way too out of hand.

after reading this thread, here are my thoughts (if you give a shit)

    1. The SB diehards who started this board, and those that built it up (you know who you are) should consider themselves the trendsetters. What did you expect?

    2. Unfortunately, you can't share information on this somewhat highly exposed board. This isn't some underground crew anymore...and this topic has come up so many times before. You gotta go the PM route. Sucks, but it sucks even more when the figure's auction gets blown up, or the online store sells out in less than 30 mins.

    3. I'm down to pay for an exclusive members only type of deal...as long as it is inexpensive and the registration process is guarded a bit more...I don't know how one would go about it, but that's not for me to spearhead.

    4. If there is an exclusive pay board, can we get decoder rings? That would be pretty dope if everyone spoke in code.

hey cornbluth, thanks again for posting the link about the SB 13th part 2 figure. i never check toy tokyo, so i would not have known it was up for grabs.
cool shit like that is what makes me happy. cornbluth posted info to share and other people(me in this case) were able to use it to obtain a piece they want

You know i'm just messing with ya! ;)

To be honest though, there isn't much graffiti round near me so when I see it, its usually not done in an 'arty' (bleugh) way, more straight up vandalism.

Although there is a massive Banksy piece near my college.

I got this little photo book of Banksy's work and it blew me away. Some seriously mind boggling stunts and social commentary going on there!

'real ' vintage Kaiju is shit that can cost 6-8 THOUSAND USD a figure. Not really very accessible to most of the people here.

then the 'repro' vintage Kaiju, well, a lot of that is accessible and i imagine all of us have some of it.

the 'NEO' Kaiju like Sb etc sorta combines the best of all worlds. It's accessible, it's first release' and it looks just as cool or even cooler than the 'real' old stuff, and is actually ,in the main, abstract derivatives of 'classic' figures.

I stopped cold turkey and sold off most of my stash after I realized I had blown about 15 Grand in 6 months with no end in sight. The day I started to rationilze paying 800 bucks for a toy..well..I just had to stop. I pretty much got my money back and some of you got some nice pieces at decent prices.

Im much calmer now that I am not obsessing 24/7 over it.

I imagine that someday, some of the real 'seminal' new stuff might retain its current values, but, I dont see say the Ubiq SB going for 6 thousand dollars. why? well, like most collectibles, the real drive in upward worth is by 'normal' older rich people who want to buy back their childhood.

an obscure Mirrorman Kaiju was part of a whole childhood experience (for most collectors, who are Japanese) and they grew up with the toy and the show and now they want it back. The few 'non' japanese collectors are jsut wackos, in a good way.

Secret Base does not have a tv show, or a movie, or a comic book and is known to only a few hundred people, who collect because they are collectors of things that are small, weird and plastic allready. I only know maybe 3 collectors here that are REALLY into say, Balzac/Misfits or old maga or whatever.

so, I think current market price will remain stable, and the toys will circulate slowly within a few hundred people until everyone either has enough, or drops out.

    stasis will be reached.

So Frank, what you're saying is that if you want to buy some Japanese toys that will be worth something in the future... buy Pokemon!

really though... some interesting points you brought up

For the new JP vinyl that was out in 2006, I would say Frank's prediction was accurate.
