Simply sublime. I guess I am just old fashioned, but I want all of these in paper form. Having this collecting in front of me to peruse at whim, or even some choice examples framed up on a wall, would be ideal. That portfolio is something I really need to add to my hunt list. Thanks for sharing the link to the e-trove, D!

Psssssst, hey kid! Do you want over 800 pages of reproduced Kirby comics? Sure you do!

Do you want them in the form of a nearly 20lb book that's as big as a human torso? I know I do!

Do you want it for pennies on the dollar compared to retail?

    Act now!

Fingers crossed hard that it's one of you good people that nabs it for the price that I was looking at when I made this post; a piddling 71.5% off.

    EDIT: All gone.

Nice work D, though I might 'hide' the link for anyone perusing, and those that want it can seek it out. I dunno, just a suggestion.

Dang, those were some incredible hauls on the giant Kirby tomes. I am guessing that they didn't last too long, but am sure glad you were able to snag a deal when you did. Getting anything this side of the pond requires some serious blood donation, so for now I am left admiring all the shared images online.

Pssst, hey kid! 2, take 2:

So, one of my many useless and dorky time fillers recently has been hunting scans of all the original comix that make up that Fourth World business. Original, as in torn and yellowed copies that still include the ads, pin-ups and backup stories. Succeeded, mostly, but with some scans being almost too scrappy, heh. Goes Without Saying caveat: I limited the scope to just Kirby's use of the characters, so Lois Lane's encounters with some of the cast, etc, and all of the further adventures have been left out in the shed.

Cherry on the sundae, the other day I extracted all of the pages from Who's Who that featured FW stuffs.

Same day I engaged in an even dorkier venture, when I divided up the comix into 4 folders, individually numbering the scanned treasures by their original newsstand date, thus faking my own variation of the chronological reading order thing that those reprint books, I'm told, used as their model. Lots of folk out there think the 'verse reads with a much better flow when you just go title by title - Jimmy Olsen, Forever People, New Gods, Mister Miracle - but I think it will be much easier to pretend that I'm a 14-year-old bang-wearing enthusiast - who hits up the druggist's spin-racks once a week - by running with this pretense.

Final steps? Adding a fifth folder with the WW pages, popping the five into a single container and then uploading the lot of them in an organized clump.

Wanna see? PM me for a download link to a couple thousand pages of afternoon delight.

Yes, I know reading comix on the 'puter and related devices should probably be a punishable offense...

...but candy ads and letter pages, though!

And for those of you that want to throw money at the above...

Most that care are likely to already know, but just in case - DC is set to publish a new all-in-one edition of the Fourth World collection, due in stores and homes just 3 weeks from now.

Hardbound, slightly oversized and a reported 1,536 pages... "only" $149.99.

There's still time to pre-order one of these beasts at an arguably decent price, though.

A welcome update to some news that astounded me a few months back:
Next summer, Titan Comics is publishing one of those artist edition jobbies of the Prisoner scraps! I'm guessing that it will be too much money for too little content, but that won't keep me from scrounging for updates.

Lots more recently published Kirby reprint action out there to drop your dollars on, and plenty more planned for this and the coming months. A Golden Age of cash-ins? At least the trees are dying for a worthy cause.

I will be getting this in January. I remember being really young...walking to Circle K and grabbing the individual issues. The toyline/comics everything...is just so amazing.

I think I'd prefer to pony up for The Jack Kirby Omnibus Vol. 2: It's a nice looking hardback that contains all of the Super Powers content - plus almost 400 pp more stuff - for only around $4 more than the SP trade.

    o

Got home yesterday to find a comically large package on my porch. I knew just what it was and could hardly wait to get it inside - lifting with the knees, of course - so that I could tear the beast on open.

Tried to take a few snaps that visually communicated the scale of my new house bible...

As usual, though, Mr. Pibb proved to be the best reference point in the house:

Lovely stuff D, a great mail day indeed. And, if I might add it, those are some very suitable scale fellows you have included there as a little easter egg if you will (aside from the always delightful Pibbs of course!) - they might just have to reside there permanently. ;)

It was an amazing project, and so much sadder that it never came to be. But, just perhaps, it is best realised in the King's work anyways, and whatever we might have gotten on screen in 1978 would never come close to that mastery; honestly I could see that being the case (farfetched, I know)*. As far as Argo goes, the less said there probably the better.

    * And very thankfully, we now live in a current time where we have the works of Taika Waititi and the contributors to Thor:Ragnarok to give a very strong nod to KK in a different but altogether enjoyable and marvelous big screen adventure.

Yep, thanks for the nod to that, John. It certainly falls into the 'strange, but true' category, and is a general delight to me (as well as being a fairly enjoyable cartoon). Kirby did a lot of concept work for Thundarr, including the principal promo poster that was used to shop the show to networks (below).

More excellent close-ups of KK pencillings:
