I just found out and I'm bummed out. Here is Friedman's post, which is done beautifully. I hope you are finally at peace Jay. This world sucks compared to you. Teach God to skate. http://idealistpropaganda.blogspot.fr/2 ... s.html?m=1
It's important to remember everything about a person. I don't think I"m idolizing him as much as remembering what he brought to the sport and the world at that time. Most athletes aren't role models and I don't think many people wanted Jay's life off of a skateboard, the dude had a lot of struggles.
You know in the end he had come to peace with his life. He wasn't proud of his past and was speaking to kids in schools about not doing what he did. He got married and was a good Dad and was an active member in his church. So he was a punk rocker who called some people gay as a kid. SO WHAT? He apologized for it and wasn't proud of that at the end. He said he didnt mean it even then, but he was the crews' instigator and they used to fight every night. He said his Dad committed suicide when he found out he had cancer. His skater friends worried because he got in with LA Vatos and gangs because basically he couldn't deal with it. Then he switched to drugs after his mom and brother died. That article about "maybe we shouldn't idolize him" is fucking lame. Very few people come to place where Jay got to after the kind of chips he had stacked against him. Jay turned it around. That is why people liked him. He lost himself but he found a way back.
-Profanity ridden rant deleted- "After a Suicidal Tendencies concert in 1982, Adams taunted a gay couple outside a popular Hollywood hangout. When one of them yelled back, he knocked him down. Adams says he fled but that the crowd behind him closed in and kicked and beat the men, killing one of them. He was convicted of felony assault and sentenced to six months." From Jay: "I don’t have to wake up and hate everybody all day and hate every other kind of music anymore like I used to. I was pretty brain washed by it in the early ‘80s. I was pretty pissed off at everything for no reason, just so I could go out and start fights with people and beat guys up and have my friends beat them up. I started a fight were a guy died and I went to jail for murder, but I got convicted of assault. It was after a show at the Starwood, we went to a place called the Okiedogs and two homosexual guys walked by and I started a fight. That’s just how every fuckin’ night was for me back then. I used to go out and start shit with people, that was my job I was the instigator. We used to have a gang of about forty guys backin’ us up, all Suicidal Boys. So, punk rock to me used to be violence and fuckin’ shit up, but now it’s something I put on to get amped out from the music." Here is the whole interview it's a great read: http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/jayadams/juice.html
I get that the dude changed his life around and all, but anything he has to say about how he's changed, and what he's blaming it on in his youth, isn't going to bring the dead kid back. You might find his atonement acceptable, but anyone who disagrees isn't a "fuckface". Would you call the parents of the deceased fuckfaces for not accepting his apology?
No you're right and I'm not defending what Jay did. Bunnyboy said that Jay killed the guy and he didn't. The mob did. He also said "another" gay man implying Jay was gay. He is factually wrong. Also 21 is a kid to me. I did some dumb shit at 21. If he wants to call people out ("WAY to make an understatement.") do some research first. You and I both know he was trolling, wanted to attack me because he doesn't like me, did a quick google search and tried to roast me, and completely fucked it up. That's a fuckface. You wanna throw rocks at me I'll throw em back.
This thread is getting kind of out of control. Ryan and bunnyboy, it would be great if you two could clear the air on your differences over PM.
Dude, you were the one that was slightly "factually wrong" when trying to downplay what Adams did as "calling somebody gay as a kid". Oh, he didn't beat the man to death personally, but was the instigator of said fight, walked away and let him be budgeoned by his loyal mob? Yeah, great read. And since you started the game of making it personal: Fuck Jay Adams and fuck you.
Yep, bunny was actually very cool. I'm still getting used to it around here...bear with me guys. I'll get it.
