Hi there. I'm Sydney and I've been collecting toys for the past few years, but have always been involved in collecting...toys, maps, books, you name it.

I had a huge collection of Star Wars toys when I was six, which isn't that unusual, but for a girl...it was a bit strange. My storm troopers played with my barbies. Once Barbie and Skipper destroyed the Death Star by riding the Millennium Falcon into it. Fashion and Sci Fi were a tough sell in the late 70's and early 80's.

It makes me crazy to think that my dad brought this (and another, I can't find the picture of it) home for me and my brother:
and we would shoot the hands off at each other...and the bullets. We'd smash them into each other, throw them around and then one day...gone into the junkpile of infinity.

Today I collect Uamou, stuff that glows and yes, stuff you'd probably hate. But we won't go there. :)

I'm happy to be part of a community that is as obsessive as I am.

That sounds like a better idea than anything George Lucas put into the prequels. Welcome to the board. :)

    hi everyone,

i've been lurking for quite a while and finally registered for an account. my name is melvin, i'm currently living in shanghai, and i've always been collecting. Currently my interests are spread over 3A, jamungo, selected 1/6 stuff, and more recently onell and kaiju.

what attracted me in the beginning was all the colourful paint jobs on kaiju. then the more i read and found out, i started to appreciate subtle things like the sculpting, the quality of vinyl, quality of paint, different materials used, etc. it's pretty daunting and i hope to be able to learn as much as i can with help from you guys. plus there are so many different names to remember. it feels like first day at school.

right now i'm trying to build up my itokin park collection (mainly lucha bears), and mongolions. photos to come soon when i figure out how to display them.

    see you guys around,
    melvin

Hello SKULLBRAINers, my name is Milton and this is my story. Been obsessed with toys ever since i got my 1st six STAR WARS action figures for x-mas when i was 5 yrs old. I'm 35 now and still love toys!!!!! Became familiar with SUPER7 when i picked up issue 12 (pushead) and a few after that. I live in S.D. and I am a tattoo artist (15 yrs) who works along SB member Guf. i have attended the last 11 comic-cons, and now own a storage unit that'll get you high on vinyl and plastic fuses. AS to what i'm into now, Star Wars still, pushead, chick figures, and LE MERDE. Le Merde big time. I just discovered Le Merde last yr @ Comic-con and now have a nice collection of his that includes vinyl, resin, art, and some customs!!! love his stuff, makes me feel like a kid again when i look at it. Took part of the Toxic Catalyst show this passed weekend in S.F. with my lil guy LARRY that Guf sculpted and molded (1 left at S7 store) and was glad Guf & I drove up there and met everyone that we did!!! GOOD PEOPLE! ............. well that's it. Glad to see that there are a bunch of witty passionate people here on SB, so for my future posts I hope everyone gets my witty and clever remarks. all in good fun. later MILTON

    Hello - I am Frass.

It appears that I have actually been a member of this board since 2006 - although
I did not know that my 'application' to Skullbrain had been accepted... hence my New Blood status.

I have been collecting since 2005 - and found my way into this via the KR forums, where I have witnessed
the deterioration of the 'quality' of board members - and more and more repeat threads - until recently it became intolerable - and so dead compared to the days of 05.

I predominantly collect Kaws - which I know isn't particularly respected on here! Never mind - I'm here to see
all the incredibly Japanese stuff people collect - and to broaden my knowledge - sick to death of endless crap, mini-capsules, zipper pulls... you get the idea.

I live and work in central London. Good to see some UK people on here - and I'm really pleased that many of
the people who made KR forum great are actually on here - and probably have been all along.
    More fool me.

    Cheers
    Frass

    Hi guys,
My name is Julie. I like cats, tapas and toys(even though I don't know quite as much as some of you guys). Figured it was about time that I post a little bit since I work at Super7. I may have met some of you already!
Here I am at one of my favorite restaurants in SF, Suppenkuche. I made Alex wear this out of the place when I was done. Call him Cinderella.

Nice to meet so many of you through your posts. I am Dustin and as a young kid besides the regular american toys I ended up with several toys from the east that struck a cord and still do to this day. One was Godzilla toys of various sizes and materials. I remember one in particular that spit sparks out of it's mouth and to a 3 year old seemed pretty big. When I was four I got 4 Jumbo Machinders. I don't know if they were Mattel or if they were Japanese releases. We had family in Hawaii and they often hooked up import toys. In any case, they were the best toys I ever had. I grew up on skateboarding, video games, horror movies, punk and hip hop (no MC Hammer, fake gangsta or rims and rings crap). About 10 years ago I saw some brothers workers and it introduced me to the world of designer toys. Through the blogs, boards I saw quite a bit as a lurker but I never actually bought any toys. In August I broke down and bought a toy I wont name.... cough cough. Anyways that was it. Through S7 toys I found my way back to the Asian and inspired toys. I am still learning and fear the day I have to start selling off parts of my collection. I have sold a few pieces but I have space issues and don't really have a fortune to keep tied up in toys. I will buy what I can though and lately resin work has been catching my eye the most. There are a million things I would like but I'm sure you all know how that goes.

    Hi everyone,
My name is Virginia, I was born and raised in Chicago, IL (now I live in Gurnee, IL with my fiance Brian), I have one (fairly large) tattoo, and I'm 25. I'm still in school working on a teaching degree in Early Childhood Education. I love many things in life, such as: family, friends, nature, music, art, and toys. I always loved toys, and bought toys every year since I had money to buy them with. I didn't know about this wonderful world of vinyl art, until my friends introduced me to it almost two years ago.

I must admit that I started out with Western Vinyl toys, mainly because of the price. The store that I go to is Rotofugi (a friggin' awesome place with an amazing staff!), and I always walked by the Kaiju shelves, admired a lot of the toys there, but I just could not bring myself up to spending that much money on those figures... at the time. As time went on, I started to buy more vinyl toys, and then Rotofugi's Lake Monster came out (the Big Muscamoot), and I was hooked. Purchasing the Muscamoot opened up the door for me to the world of Kaiju. It was my transition piece, and I haven't really looked back (except for the Simpson's figures b/c I'm a big Simpsons fan)... Now I collect all things Kaiju (that catch my eye and that I can afford), except for a select few things. The only non-kaiju toys that I collect are customs/comissions, resins (mainly Tuttz), Rotofugi's Lake Monsters, prints, Ashley Wood figures, and some Doktor A pieces. I don't have a specific Kaiju piece that I have large collection of with different color ways. I do have a good amount of RxH mini fortune cats, I have 5+1 (still hasn't arrived) Sleeping Killers, 1 Dragamel + 4 mini Drags, I have a couple of Rangeas, and that's about it for the multiple pieces... Otherwise, I just have one colorway of various figures that I fell in love with and had to buy to add to my "Kaiju" collection.

I am still a newb to the world of Kaiju, but I am very eager and willing to learn about it. (I even bought a book that I saw at the comic book store called "Killer Kaiju Monsters: Strange Beasts of Japanese Film" by Ivan Vartanian). I am definitely looking forward to learning more about Kaiju as well as getting to know you guys. :)

As for a picture... Here I am at Rotofugi's new location in front of their Kaiju shelves... Interesting tidbit... I helped Rotofugi with the move, and one of the nights before the opening of their new location, Ultra999 (Bill) and I spent many hours setting up the Kaiju toys in those shelves. (You can only see three, but there are four cases all together) :) Good times, good times ;)

    Hello, everyone.
My name is Mark, and I've been collecting more "traditional" kaiju for several years now. I was aware of this part of the hobby, mainly from Super7, but never really pursued it. However, I met Monster Worship at Pittsburgh Comicon last spring, and Chad and John not only turned me on to their stuff, but also pointed me towards skullbrain, and my collecting took a sharp left turn into your midst. So now, in addition to Gamera et al, I'm chasing Kusogons and Greasebats (supporting the local lads!), enjoying the addictive sales threads (which is the way I've already met a few other folks here), and generally lurking. I haven't posted before because, well, I don't have much to say -- you all seem to have done fine without my input all these years, and that search function has been invaluable in answering most of my questions. But I'll try. (It's also been fun to go back and re-read all the stuff I initially overlooked my Super7s, like discovering them for the first time -- only not.) Thanks, all!

Thanks! Most of it's currently stored in big Rubbermaid tubs in the basement, making room in my limited display space for this new stuff. I wanted to get some IKEA display cases, but my wife pointed out that they would take up too much space and only have my stuff in them -- which was sort of the idea. A problem faced by many toy collectors, I understand. I did finally realize I should at least take pictures before I rotate stuff out, so I know when, what, and how I've arranged things in the past. (This is probably more information than anyone cares about . . .)

We all care about this info, because most of us do it here. I know without visual reference I'd be lost reassembling shelves. Hey limited space means it's a puzzle and it all has to fit back the same way (unless new shelves appear and then it's a free for all). You're into traditional kaiju and you know how to use the search engine here?! You might just be my new best friend :) Welcome!

Thanks -- by "traditional kaiju" I mean Toho and Daiei. I hope that's what folks are understanding -- if not, I apologize for being too vague my first time here. I haven't had much luck with vintage stuff, simply because it's always been easier for me to rationalize spending a lot on several things all together than on one thing, so I've moved from Bandai stuff to Marmits, Marusans, etc., and now to the original kaiju that dominate here (without giving up my interest in the the others, of course). While a brightly colored Gamera will win me over every time, just a few months ago I would have said that I'd never be into any skull-loaded, evil-looking vinyl -- famous last words . . .

I could have done this a long time ago, but I never have. This thing has been buried for a while now, so I thought I'd give it a resurrection if nobody minds.

I'm Randy and I fell in love with kaiju when I was 12 - at first sight when I saw a Bandai gashapon GH Gamera toy (which I purchased) and 100% a few weeks later when I saw & purchased a Bandai Destoroyah. Owner of the shop selling me the goods was named Prince, of Atomic City, and he directed me to the two locally owned video stores in town that would kindly rent me all the Japanese monster, horror, and weird cinema on VHS I could dream of as a kid. It took me til I was about 17-18 before I'd get into Marmit and M1, and it wasn't until 2008 when I got fully back into the swing of rabidly buying and filling shelves.

I primarily collect Godzilla, Hedorah, and Koji Harmon's Tokoji Seijin. Colored clear vinyls are my favorite ever, and I wish I could commit to an entirely non-opaque collection. Glitter injected vinyls are my second favorite. I have a horribly lazy habit of never installing shelves (which sit in a closet, unused) so my collection rotates in & out of storage bins right now, across all parts of the house until the girlfriend chases them off to somewhere else.

My favorite hobbies otherwise include home aquariums (an industry I just recently left), digital cameras, German & Japanese cars, rootbeer, vegan & vegetarian cooking, our 4 dogs, cinema, Fantastic Fest, and videogames. Specifically Capcom fighting games, most Castlevania titles, and Nintendo systems & titles. I've made a lot of friends on the board in my time here, and look forward to making more.

Good to know - I used to like me some RN, saw them like 3x in Austin & San Antonio. Loved, and still love Bishop (or xBishopx? Whatever)! Never ever ever got to see a show though.

Nice, yeah if you've seen RN then you've definitely seen me before(I played bass). I loved playing Texas, we played a bunch of shows with Bitter End there, (love those guys). Bishop is playing their last show May 14 in South Florida, you should come out. There's a ton of other bands playing RN(new line up), Terror, Trapped Under Ice and a bunch others.

    Hello Skullbrain,
My name is Patrick and I have been collecting toys and comics for most of my life. I have only gotten into vinyl over the last couple of years. At one point last spring, I traded some toys for an RV and from that moment on, I have been hooked on Super 7 and kaiju stuff in general. I haven't posted much, but I have bought from a whole bunch of you over the last few months. When I am not scouring the internet for new toys to snag, I am hanging out with my wife and 2 year old daughter or out getting tattooed. It's a simple life, but I dig it.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

    Hi Skullbrainers,
I could've also done this a while ago but never realized there was such a thread. My name is Roberto, I was born in London, UK 40 years ago and I currently live in Milan, Italy.
I think I've been obsessed with Japanese animation since I first moved to Italy in the early eighties, where the likes of Devilman, Mazinga Z, Fantaman (or Phantaman), Goldrake Atlas UFO Robot, Kaibutsu-Kun (here called "Carletto il principe dei mostri") and so many more we're aired every afternoon on a few of the national channels (and where extremely popular among kids); this eventually lead me to many different aspects of Japanese culture, from manga, cinema, design and art, literature, music and eventually kaiju, toys et cetera.
I've been primarily collecting Bemon for a couple of years although I started with SB Obakedogs when I first saw one during my first trip to Japan a few years ago. Before I was collecting Bandai Chogokins and 12" action figures (such as Takara's Jin Roh, Enterbay's Bruce Lee figures), still do now and then.
When it comes to vinyl I don't have any particular obsession although I love clear and glitter and GID with what I'd call candy colourways.
I don't really have many other hobbies as I spend most of my time working but I also collect records, in particular Japanese noise, folk and experimental (but also a lot of other music from many different cultures and traditions).
I'm also into videogames, again with particular interest for the Japanese industry (I love Treasure, Sega, Cave and From's Demon's Souls!)
I've been hanging around SB and Flickr for some months and have met some great people, been flamed a few times but all good so far :)
    Cheers,
    Rob
