Your probably barking up the wrong tree for RAH Kamen Rider here because it's not really vintage or repro's of vintage Sofubi. You may want to check/search the Japan Toys to see if there is an RAH thread.
had to do a botched photoshop job on this picture to take out the messy background- i dont have my usual setup here in europe. got this guy in recently ish. repro boots and belt! long live gamagirah, the toad monster
Flood away michael! I come here for the sole purpose of seeing pics, and the ones you posted are gorgeous. Love that first one -moth villain? I recently scored something very small Kamen Rider I'd never thought I find. Will post pics in a few weeks when they arrive.
Does anyone here have any insight about the different belt variations for the standard-size removable mask vinyl figures of Kamen Rider 1? I recently bought one with a metal "cyclone" belt and years ago bought a MIB specimen that I thought was legit which has a belt made entirely of vinyl. After seeing some heavy bidding action on a MIB example (see below), I'm now thinking the metal belt version is legit and that the vinyl belt MIB one that I bought was a boot or counterfeit. Recent YJA listing for a metal belt example that sold for MIB 182,000 yen: http://page5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/e130505574 Here's a vinyl belt example (blue helmet variation) which I'm not sure is legit or boot that was listed for 150,000 yen but didn't sell http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k161277815 Here's another vinyl belt example of a MIOB specimen with an additional, recently made "tribute" belt that was listed for 120,000 yen but didn't sell http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u44887216 Any shared insight would be appreciated.
sorry blue- cant help you out on that. im sure someone here knows a lot more about the belts than i do and CHRIS!!!! im extremely jealous of those two figures, they are smaller than i imagined, but they are fantastic edit* my wife got some film developed today- sorry you have to see my ugly mug but you can catch fullsize and mini gamagirah in full effect!
I love the size. Actually I hope that one day I can get a real KR mini so I can compare it with these and the unifive reproductions. I know unifives are slightly smaller thanks to Scott. The detail on them is pretty meticulous given the small size. Cool pic of yourself BTW, I think everyone should have one with their favorite toys. Well IF IT wasn't for you I would not own these! Thanks for the nod. Can't wait to see your Scorpion Man that is the same as these two.
I hadn't really noticed the distinctive metal belt one before, interesting to see that. I would say it is a marked improvement and excellent detail. I wouldn't automatically assume the one you have is a copy/bootleg though, it is very possible they changed production along the ways to lower the costs (material and assembly) and so both are available, but the earlier metal version is more sought after. You might also take a really close look if you can at the Unifive versions for comparison.
@blue227 here's the vinyl belt from my rider, seems to be the most common. The auctions you posted look to be legit (not boots). The belts with the tin buckle tend to be pretty pricey from what ive seen. I think there are several others but I never pay too much attention to variants though so im not much help. @michael-that photo looks straight out of the 70's, love it. Heres a couple photos of some new guys I got recently just to keep the thread moving along. This guy is way smaller than I thought but a really cool sculpt and pose.
heres a nice little size comparison- i lifted this picture from brian flynns post in the collection thread seems to be unifive repro spiderman- vintage spiderman- 2 flying pose spiderman
Hmmm ok wow so the original spiderman mini almost looks like it is a completely different mold. At least in the chest area it does. Interesting. I had just assumed that these Unifive were taken from molds cast from the original minis.
sorry to quote myself but since you said they look to be different sculpts all together im racking my brain trying to see if thats true or not-id love to hear some other input. i assumed the repros were cast from the originals as well
Here is unfive vs 2 popy spidermen ... I think Brian has 2 popy spidermen is his photo with differing sprays. I have seen alot of variation in spays - sometimes more yellow but the standard unifive release just has green spray as far as I know. The details are exactly the same on the unifive but are softer ... it makes me think they are from the same source, there is a process in molding which i'm not an expert on but the original sculpt is bigger than the final release. Unifive may have used the original and deliberately reduced the final figure a little more than popy did. Kenner did this with starwars figures and called the originals 2ups . Anyway thats my 2 cents !
Great comparison shot. You are right about the molding, and I think that explains the small size difference in the case here too. You can also see this in some of the Marusan and M1 reissued figures of classic molds. As for the Kenner stuff though, the 2-up and 4-up are references to the wax and sculpt prototypes, and are actually 2x or 4x final product size I think (where details are easier to add and change). Not sure if a pantograph is involved, or it is all through molding.
Great pic and great information Scott. I never thought about the use of modern 3d imaging to basically turn even an older original into a smaller or bigger size (new mold). See threads like this is why I still love skullbrain. Can never get enough info.
My tokugeron is 100% intact. There is no hole in the mouth or tear in the tail? The mouth is "recessed" to create a opening, but is sprayed red... Why did you think mine has a torn booty? I will post pics of it's fine tail!
i retract my statement! on the Japanese vintage vinyl group you said the butt had a defect- i thought i saw a rip in the vinyl in your picture and just tried to make sense of it all in my small brain- sorry about the slander.
