Sounds about right . . . unsure if it translates globally . . . . but they what we colloquially call a set of tossers!
All I know is that I went to my buddy Jeff's house last night, and was quite surprised to see this on his shelf... really nice in person, despite the pricing & availability "issues."
Curious if there's some kinda distribution restriction imposed by Disney (like the Stormtrooper and Vader that never made it onto KAWSONE either).
I think it's not as bad as the vader/stormtrooper release... Those didn't show up at any stateside retailers, as far as I know they didn't make it to overseas retailers as well. I think it was due to the distibution restriction with Lucas arts then.
KAWS hasn't put up anything for sale on his website since the Grey dissected bearbricks. Since then there has been the black dissected bearbricks, 200% chogokins and now the Pinocchio set. Its frustrating since this leaves North American collectors to the mercies of ebay or unscrupulous resellers. Its pissin me off.
normally I wouldn't comment on this, but I'm calling bullshit on this one. There was a fairly well known chance for people to get this on preorder at some places for $250. People bitched and moaned and said that was a ripoff for a piece that was going to retail in Japan for just over 200 (so if you have a teleportation machine, you could save $45 or so). People said there was going to be a million of them because they were Disney. Now people are at the "mercy" of Ebay and unscrupulous sellers? 250 including shipping seemed pretty reasonable...and at least 2 retailers sold them at that price BEFORE the release date.
TQ first price was $265 not $250... i jumped in on that price... they moved to $299 then $350 after just get your numbers straight
TT had it for 250 shipping included, TQ had it for 265. did I ever even mention TQ? I'm talking about when everyone had the same shot to buy it early, not now. read the post. either way, people really like complaining...those were fair prices. getting pissed off at retailers because all the misinformation about how easy this was going to be found is unfair. Even if Kaws had dropped it on his site it would have been close to that price with shipping, no? I just think it's silly when people see the price will be $200 or so in Japan and expect to pay that. When was the last time a retailer here sold a Buta piece for $30? $50 or more? fucking assholes!
I agree with u there, for a second I was like maybe I should wait and maybe get it cheaper, but then I thought to myself $265 ship with no tax is fair... And I wouldn't have to worry about being on the boost of those who missed out so I went ahead an did it
I don't mind paying 250, 265 or 300 with or without shipping. I don't mind preordering. If this is going to be the new status quo for future KAWS releases then so be it. Just shut down the KAWSONE website so it doesn't give false hope to those used to releases directly from the man himself.
Haven had it at 300$ and I guess Headquarter did as well (their online sales suck though, better call and see if they still have it)... Just saying there are options...
^ Great shots! Maybe KAWSONE should go back to the 05 days when it was pretty much nothing but a blank page... until something dropped, and then it just went crash-tastic crapola. I've pretty much had to pay a mad price for a Pinocchio, when a certain on-line retailer in the european union let me down on a pre-order. Needless to say, they have definitely lost a customer in the process.
toyshops acting like flippers charging what they can is ridiculous. never seen that shit before. shouldnt have given these to unserious retailers that cant handle rare toys. why not make firm retail prices to avoid this drama? maybe only me - do even consider 265 $ for a new toy crazy, but when it comes to kaws poeple loose their minds or see it as investment, dont know. same here. though some of dealers played fair, the one i deal with pisses me off most every time as they regularily base their prices on ebay minus 10 % when its sought after stuff.
"The Only Cool Thing About this Kaws x Disney Pinocchio Is Nothing" http://blog.vandalog.com/2010/08/animal ... isney-toy/
just to pull the full blog entry out: "Kaws, an artist who used to reappropriate images from major corporations without their permission, collaborates with them now instead, just like other streetwear brands. His latest partnership is with Disney and for me, like graffiti writers painting legal walls, there’s something weak about obtaining permission from the companies that should be getting knocked-off. Then again, if his art basically consists of putting an X on someone else’s character, maybe it’s the only way for him to make work?" one question, out of the many I would have for this guy: what "graffiti" writer who you actually know of doesn't paint legal walls now? Graffiti hasn't really EVER been the romantic thing people all over the world make it sound like. As soon as the old school dudes got their shot, they took it and went into the galleries while they could. This happened 30 fucking years ago. When you can go to a Barnes and Noble and find a hundred books on something, it ain't underground anymore. also: out of the thousands and thousands of artists I have seen over the years, I can list on one hand the ones who don't have a gimmick. and those artists' non-gimmick thing is the fucking gimmick!
Not my way to name and shame - but if you have ever dealt with this guy - he had the gall to then 'offer' a piss-poor 20% off anything else on his site - great; you mess up a pre-order, and then expect us to still buy... extremely lame. never again. i have to say - from the pictures posted here - I'll be glad to have this one; best in ages - and that's not really saying that much, I know. Sometimes, you have to pay ebay prices if you're a UK collector and if you really want kaws.
that speaks for most collectors outside US.. i, too have to pay ebay price and some boardie don't ship intl, for pricey items like kaws..
