Hey guys. Haven't posted in a while, but I've been creepily lurking from time to time. Just wanted to share a moment that made me think about the board. I went to the 2006 San Diego Comic-Con with a quest to get a handpainted KAWS X Companion. I had found out that there was going to be a Pushead event from another messageboard. I was willing to sacrifice my whole day to get a decent spot in line. When I got to the Super7 booth, I was stoked that there were only 4 or 5 people in line for the Pushead event later in the day. We struck up conversation and they asked if I was on Skullbrain. I had no idea what they were talking about. It became apparent there was a priority list and I wasn't on it. I wasn't 4th in line. I was 65th. Drag. I came back later to the signing and after a 2 hour wait, I finally got to see what scraps were available to me. My jaw dropped when Ramos told me there was a Bronze Companion available. At the time, the colorway was a Japanese show exclusive and the ebay prices were in the quadruple digits. Pushead was selling it for less. It was an easy purchase. As a lot of you know, Pus treats the people in the back of the line with the same respect as the VIPs in front. He took the time to answer all my dumb questions and sign my toy. As he signed the foot of his orthopedic shoe, he said, "Now you just have to track down KAWS." Great idea. Well, 6 years later, I got my shot. KAWS recently came to the Fort Worth Modern Art museum to give a talk about his career. I know he's a bit of a polarizing character around here, but it was pretty inspiring to hear where he came from and where he's at now. After the talk, he took the time to sign a few things and take photos with fans. He graciously signed the other side of the shoe, and my Companion had a new glow to it. Now if anyone can point me to Cosmo Liquid's whereabouts, I'd greatly appreciate it...
send it to me, i'll sor it out for you, i know a guy who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy....promise
Great toy with a great story. Love reading things like this, so much more refreshing than the usual back and forth about flipping or hype.
Have a better shot of that garage toy? And also a very cool story. I wish you luck getting the last signature.
Cosmo will probably be around at SF tomorrow, next chance might be his event this month or next Wonder Festival.
i echo what Toby said. that is a rad story and further shows how much pus cares about his fans. the croc proto is dreamy. its neat to see how excited pus was for it.
Love this, I hope this encourages more members to share their stories. I'm sure we would all love to hear them.
Amazing. I loved reading this story. These kinds of moments (and pieces) are what make collecting this plastic crap really hit deep in the heart!
