Maybe not as uncommon as you think; My Dad was allergic to our cat but it went away after spending some time with her. My gf was allergic, but then it went away after a while too. But now--since my gf hasn't been around the cat in a while--when we visit my folks, she reacts a little to the cat. BUT lately she's been fine--even enough to pet her without any trouble.
your allergies definitely lessen as you are constantly exposed to the allergen that's the idea behind the allergy shots but it has to be a little at a time over a long period of time and if you have a severe allergy, it really ultimately isn't worth it. i get asthma attacks around cats as well as itchy eyes and runny nose... so it would never work for me plus they shit in a box full of sand which is just fucking gross
People in SF follow their dogs around with a plastic baggy to pick up their hot steaming pile and take it with them...by law. Now that's fucking gross.
Yup. The handfull of dookie and plastic is nasty. I cringe every time I see someone use the ol' grab-n-go technique.
Awww... that is so sad . Maybe one of these days you'll have a neighbor that has a kittee, and you can "borrow" him/her? Our neighbor is the same way. His wife is allergic to cats, but he stops in once in awhile for a cup of coffee and to play with Mr. Humphreys ...kitteh poopies are nothing compared to having a pet hedgehog! I use to have a sweet African Pygmy hedgie a looooong time ago, and for such a teeny critter she was such a pooping machine! She was naturally potty-trained and would do her business in the corner of the cage, or what was even better, I'd get home at 10:30pm, wake her up, and hold her over the toilet for her to do her business, twice a night, and she was all set for the entire evening. Hedgies are noctural critters and active at night, so she was the perfect pet. Here is a pic of an African Pgymy hedgie (not mine, but a Flickr pic) Ok, we now return you back to....
If you are allergic to cats (like me), I highly recommend getting a couple of these guys. Very cool personalities and SO soft. They feel like velvet.
a friend of mine has a couple of these - and besides looking kind of gross, they actually are not that bad on my allergies very soft
I find myself somewhat at pains to understand whether you actually like cats or not, Mr. Pickleloaf. You did start this thread after all, did you not? Was it some kind of aversion therapy perhaps?
cats are fine from a distance and lolcats are hilarious to me for some reason. it's the 12 year old stuck inside me but my allergies and sensitive sniffer make me not really care for them as pets
