I don't think it is anything specifically untowards or suspicious, but it is unfortunate about the massive bump in pricing, Mandarake listings on the website do go through some odd things, by way of whatever programming they have set it up to, so I do look on them with a grain of salt, but I think for toys like these, they are going based on what people will pay; i.e. if they know major collectors will shell out (which they are in an excellent position to, given their own extensive history of sales) on a toy, then they will price accordingly. It is a massive chain, which is more than content and has the stock capability to let a toy be in its shop(s) for many years, until just the right collector comes along.

Would be so lovely to have one of these Poseidons. Personally, for me, the purple is king of the bunch, and I would gladly shell out big to have one of those in my corner. Just not that big (unless I have a flood of monies from a lottery win or something).

I feel the opposite actually Steve. I mean Mandarake can do what they want (just like collectors can do what they want) with their toys BUT the immediate jump to over 3 times the original sticker price is shady as fuck any way you slice it. They don't get a pass because they have the algorithm to evaluate the max price they could get for one, then again I'm sure they could care less what other collectors think.

Can you find deals at Mandarake? Sure can. Can you find many instances where they are worse than the biggest flippers/ hype beasts in this hobby? Definitely. That place is by definition the double-edged sword.

Also agree- Purple is the nicest of the bunch.

My favorite is the light blue, black, gold combo. All three colors compliment each other beautifully.
I think Nostalgic Heroes made a similar color-way.

Big ass figures like this so nicely done and packaged are expensive to make. More than anything this is probably a strategy to create hype and perception that this is a valuable figure, so future runs continue to sell.
Sales on these large expensive figures can dwindle quickly as those really into it grab one of the early releases and are then out.

My only gripe is this is not 1978 and I can not go to Zayre with my Mom to get the same thrill for less than $20

Sorry if my previous statement came off sounding like I was giving them a pass - I am wholly not, and completely against it. I am only saying, in the same way that they are (have) sold piles of HS figures (as just one example) for multiple thousands of dollars, all probably within relative minutes of posting online, they are very savvy with their knowledge of the market - that is one thing you can certainly not hold against the Mandarake staff, being uninformed - that I understand as a business why they might apply this model. Do I agree with it? Certainly not. But I am not so naive or stuck in my ways that I would refuse to buy anything from the shop, because of over-pricing behavior on high demand toys. It is incredibly unfortunate that the toys aren't affordable enough for us all to grab one, but I don't think that is ever the intent - which is actually a great loss. Much like the M1 giants (e.g. T-28 ) these are meant to be exclusives, targeting a special sort of buyer even within the niche of the market. As such, all of this pricing, re-selling, etc., is all part of the trade, acting to build it in it's own 'value' of the toy, if you will. When it is their own release, as in this case, I am not all that surprised they want to portray it as being extra special. Again, I don't like it, but I do see the logic [for them] behind it. I think it sucks anyone would go this route, and probably I am just also sore I can't just sit on the floor and play with jumbo vinyl toys as easily these days. Surrounded by jumbo robots, that probably has always been my dream. :)
