Definitely. How good are those nods to previous generations of sitcoms and shows? Wandavision is littered with them. Admittedly, I never watched much television from the first era but have definitely caught subtle styles and references to everything from the Brady Bunch to Growing Pains.

After a year of no cinematic Marvel, I didn’t know what I wanted or expected from Wandavision tbh but I’m really happy with what it is.

And Jimmy Woo is awesome, need more card tricks

 

OMG! I had forgotten the close up magic bit from Ant Man. So funny. I can totally see him fronting an Agents of Atlas series. I have to say I like the comedic spin Marvel can put on its shows. A lot of it is just dad jokes, but I am a middle-aged dad, so it works for me

 

I couldn't make it through that first ep. I certainly grew up on reruns of everything from Perry Mason up through the Brady Bunch and I loved it all...at the time. But a remake, or homage, or whatever, to any of that campy shit just irritates the hell out of me. I kept waiting for WV to snap out of that throw-back sitcom and into the "real" show, but it didn't happen, and didn't happen, and didn't happen and I finally started fast-forwarding to get to something watchable...and it was the end credits! For, like, seven minutes! I realize I'm in the minority here, but what an absolutely awful way to start a series (for me).
I'm sure I'll give it another try, as I understand it isn't just 8 episodes of an I Love Lucy remake...but that first try left a really bad taste in my mouth.

 

Ack..ended up binging it today. Thoughts? It's not about reruns. More cerebral...more about losing your mind. I HATE the sitcom elements and laugh track and find myself getting irritated HOWEVER, knowing that this is a slow burn makes it worth. Ep 1-3 meh with moments of wtf.....4-6 better. Marvel movies have been pretty consistent. I have faith in the show. Huge fan of House of M, Days of Future past, Old Man Logan..Hoping for the twist...even though I have never been a fan of Mephisto. Couldn't care less in the character.

 

I also tried watching the first episode but ff to the end. I became bored and irritated so I gave up. I think I'll take Bryce's advice and try watching ep.4.

 

I have no interest in rewatching 1-3. Apparently 7-9 are a big pay off.

 

I loved that move from Marvel, starting the show how they did. I think it’s a pretty bold move from them.
Almost gave it up during episode 2.
I think the reward is worth it. Definitely my favorite Marvel show and those first episodes played a big role. I like when a show or movie isn’t trying to rub me the right way from the start. Particularly refreshing from an Hollywood production.

 

The Ralph Bohner/ Boner thing was the dumbest thing ever. Meh.

 

Anything that makes Kevin Smith post a selfie of himself crying, immediately makes me assume I won't like it very much

To be fair I thought The Justice League was a really shit movie. The story just seemed pieced together and had zero character development and pretty poor CGI and lame attempts at comedy and just wasn't fun at all. It sucked and I didn't enjoy it at all.

I just finished the new version on HBO max assuming it would be pretty much the same maybe with better effects. I was totally wrong. It was actually a well done film. Lots of backstory on the different characters, Cyborg was actually the heart of the film unlike the other version where he was some oddly angry jerkass character with almost no screen time for some reason. The Flash was handled really well too. Tons of cool fan service with new characters I did not expect. It wasn't funny at all but it had a story that made sense and some heart and GREAT effects throughout. It felt like a good comic book movie. Easily the best DC movie so far.

So if you are on the fence I would suggest you give it a shot.

 

I don't know why I watched it, but I did. I've never been into DC stuff and never watched any of the recent movies except BvsS, I think. I really want to see if someone does a fan edit that speeds up all the slo-mo to normal speed. I am betting that you'd end up with a 2 1/2 hour movie instead of 4 hours.

I will give it one thing, the length and the chapter title cards do give you the feel that you are reading a comic book mini series. But man, it is so, so serious. With every scene the whole thing is buckling under its own weight.

I agree with a lot of that review actually. I have never had the desire to get into the whole stupid Marvel Versus DC movie nonsense. I just want to see cool movies. Who makes them doesn't make a big difference to me at all. That being said Marvel seems to do much better making fun movies overall. This was the only DC movie I think I really enjoyed. There were a couple I thought were watchable like Aquaman and Wonder Woman but nothing I'd ever watch twice. This was way better by far.

 

Really enjoyed the Snyder cut, though it took 5 sittings to get through (I just don't have the time). I felt like I was watching a comic book more than a movie. Who wrote the original storyline? It felt very Grant Morrison. Dark, magical, cynical. Superman is nearly a sociopath. I'll watch this again.

 

I realise I'm probably in the minority here but as a non comic book nerd, I enjoyed it!

It was a major upgrade on the original and well paced to retain interest over the course of the 4 hours.

 

After sitting through it, I thought "That was pretty good!"

After further thought, I wondered if it was actually good or if it was just better than the original version (which set the bar ridiculously low). I'm still on the fence, and will have to give it another watch.

 

What I find funny is that I loved superhero comics when I was a little kid but it's been a decade or two since I kept up with any of that stuff. Yet somehow all the comic book movies now are based off the big stories from way back then. The whole infinity gauntlet stuff was 20 fucking years ago. Some of the Batman stuff from this movie was 25 years ago in the comics. So even though I know nothing about what is going on in the comics now most of these films come from when I did know what was going on.

Good way to make old bastards feel like everything is familiar and give young people stories they may have never even heard of.

 

My threshold of pain was watching Iron Fist. I could not make it past episode 5 or 6 at that point I was like nope. So I had enough strength to power through WandaVision episode 1 - 3. Very cringy and made me restless but once outside of the re-run episodes it was fine.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier started off fast and the action I was missing from WandaVision was right there in the first episode so I am so happy with the lineup Marvel has for their TV shows. Can't wait for Loki.

Makes me remember my childhood and watching the old Hulk (Sad Hulk) and Wonder Woman. Many days were spent spinning in circles as a girl.

Also, not sure if I can watch the Snyder Cut of Justice League....... Ben Affleck as Batman. MEH. I mean I've read it's so much better than the OG movie which I haven't watched either....but still.....

 

As far as the Netflix stuff goes I liked Punisher a lot. Daredevil was cool but Punisher was the best part of that show too. Luke Cage was eh. Iron Fist was total shit for a long time but got decent towards the end. Jessica Jones was worth watching for the most part. The team up show was just okay.

Ben Affleck was a pretty good Batman. Such a stoic character doesn't need much "acting" anyway especially since it's not his origin story and he's already supposed to be cold and dead inside. In the big scheme of things he was a way better batman than others who put on the suit. George Clooney, Val Kilmer, hell I liked the Nolan Batman flicks but I think Bale did a pretty shit job in those movies and his fight scenes were just trash. The villains made those movies good.

If you liked sad Hulk you will love sad Justice League.

 

I didn't realize Winter Solder/Falcon was a show rather than a movie. Talk about two characters I don't give a shit about. Which could also be said for pretty much the entire DC Universe. I think at this point I'm over superhero shows/movies. Doesn't mean I won't watch 'em from time to time, but I'm certainly not seeking them out. Marvel made some fun movies, but the whole Avengers saga was so tedious and tiresome.

 

I'm still working my way through the Daredevil series, whilst on the treadmill, and even without the exercise it feels like torture. The Punisher has been the best part so far and I'm glad I watched that series first.

At first I could go with the whole 'I won't kill anyone' premise but by Season 3 I just feel it is far too unbelievable and each fight scene feels like a war of attrition with Daredevil getting pummelled, pummelling back, until the bad guy(s) is too tired to get up... 'my super power is that I can take more of a beating than you...' (that isn't a super power, Clive)

I'll finish it because I'm so close but it is a grind. After three lockdowns, finding entertaining shows to watch, whilst exercising, is getting more and more challenging.
