Seems like there are more than a few board members with lost toys thanks to "cough"Ricky"cough"Velocitron"cough" - is it worthwhile compiling a database of missing projects so that there is a reference list for whatever happens in the futture? There are a few members here who have some level of access to mold factories - so seeing photos here could be a little reminder of things to keep an eye out for. If anything, it would be nice for guys to at least post photos of sculpts and give some backstory to the toys that we may not ever see again (hopefully that's not the case!)..
Strikes me as an attempt to generate controversy under the guise of doing a "public service". Is making an SB 'Ricky-woes' thread going to miraculously bring to life all the MIA projects in his care? Doubtful. Cory/SP reached out to members here nearly a year ago. Sure quite a few artists/makers contacted him at that time. Very likely he and others with factory access have their hands full with current projects and "keeping an eye out" for random lost molds would be extremely low on the priority list. Compiling a missing sculpt/mold database would do little more than create artificial hype for said toys (that were produced) because of the RARE-ty implied... and there's no need for that.
Cool idea, can’t think of too many examples besides what some artists have posted on ig when that terrible fire happened. Whether we acknowledge it or not, especially since this hasn’t been a flash in the pan fad, history is being added to the already established vintage vinyl. Gives me the same feeling I get when thumbing through the video game tones that pop up about old consoles.
That's a good point there - one that I totally didn't consider. Maybe you're right about that... and yes maybe there was a hint of trying to get some entertainment on the boards over the Easter break. However 99% of the threads intention was to document "lost" toys.. not only recent sculpts from last year's fire, but also toys that never seem to get produced anymore (for non-fire related reasons). The Kusogon and Zokki Kaiju posts over the past few days brought to mind a lot of other toys that we never see new releases of like the S7 Monster Family range etc. And I've always wondered why RxH Adult collabs seem to have a couple of releases and then disappear.. like the PK head/arm combo (which is one of the best collabs I've seen for that figure - personal differences with PK aside). Maybe a limited release is part of the terms (excluding Uamou)?
Real Head molds are alive and well. I just saw them. Some makers just don’t do things like everyone else. Super 7 however - they are stuck in the same old bottleneck. Anyway. As you were.
I used to think Ricky was the issue, but it's really just being a gaijin trying to work in Japan when business is booming. They just don't need to deal with the extra steps when they are pulling thousands of figures for the locals. Its hard to say things are lost, just really not cared about... For some it was an itch to scratch, for those who really love it, they will find a way.
Like is not enough, I love this statement! Thank you, Joe. ______________________________ Just have to say this is a far reaching over dramatic slanderous bullshit of an attempt at stirring shit up Glenn. You have zero experience working with Ricky so to be mentioning him publically and in this way, unless you have proof shut the fuck up! Ricky would not do what you imply. Then you backpedal this into a nostalgic wishfully yours thread? I don't care who agrees. That is seriously fucked up.
Wow @kichigai talk about "far reaching over dramatic slanderous bullshit"... just re-read your post above So you're saying Ricky didn't just stop replying to emails for several months, leaving dozens of toy projects (I'm sure some of which had been paid for by the creators) in limbo for over a year? Sorry, my deepest apologies.. I must have dreamt about that whole debacle! No back-pedalling here pal, it was always my intention to celebrate lost sculpts and document them in this thread... but feel free to spin it into a heinous crime against humanity if you're so inclined.
I think one thing we can all agree upon is that this board has far enough negativity already, without trying to add more or stir things up (yes, I know, some people do get off on that sort of thing, but I'd like to think most people still come here for the toys). So, without diving too much further into it, let's just omit any personal attacks and particularly unfounded statements. Any of that sort of thing should be confined to PM, or dare I suggest it, personal interactions between parties. As Sam has already said, this issue has been raised here, and those involved know who they are, and have been working on it. Anything else is just insubstantial fog, clouding up the view, which the morning sun should clear away.
Steve thank you, I am sorry to use the swears. I really have tried to quit swearing, it is a window dressing. Glenn my point is you have never been involved directly with Ricky, nor to my knowledge anyone involved. So it is really not your place to be the Lorax on this issue. I personally am eternally thankful to Ricky and Chad and Mr. Sato in so many ways I could not even know where to begin. I never turn my back on a friend, no not even when they seem to fail. We are all hardwired to seek answers but increasingly so few ever go so far as asking, "Are you OK?" People and animal lives are more valuable than any toy on the planet.
Oh I guess you aren't aware of the time he misplaced six sculpts of mine (and a few friends that I'm aware of) that were scheduled for production 3 years ago... sorry my mistake! At the time when I heard this happened it was extremely irritating because we were advised of a quick turnaround, so we just sent clay originals without making resin duplicates. Thankfully the clay sculpts were recovered months later.. still a bit of frustration remains about the whole thing.
