Wasn't sure how many people attend.
Can't believe it's been a year already. See you tonight.
So Saturday's show was fun! It was a blast catching up with folks. That was the definite highlight which made waiting for the F train Saturday night all the more tolerable. (A train...10 minutes....C train....1o minutes....A train again....ugh)
It was a decent sized crowd without being too crammed into MPH or spilling out into the street, especially for a February night. The pieces were all on the larger side (8"+) ranging from the PK Chimeras to Guumon's Daigomis, with a couple of smaller ones.
- The Planet X Asia sculpts look really fun. I definitely want to get a blank now to mess around with and not ruin the paint.
- Must get a Chimera one day!
- Hyper Kraken was the first to go and was definitely the MVP. Wonderful colors on a milky vinyl.
- I got to see the new GGML mini robot. Adorable little sculpt. We need armies of these. Just saying...
Here's the gallery of my photos:
I wasn't there but i bought this one online.
Couldn't pass it up. Guumon did an awesome job on the paint.
For those that weren't able to attend this year's Monstrosities exhibit, I'm thrilled to present a recap with lots of photos for you to enjoy!
The show was great overall. Major props to Guumon for putting it all together. He also had quite a few pieces in the show and they all looked fantastic!
Cinema Monster painted by Rampage
All the Chimeras and DualBats were very well done but I wouldn't expect anything less from the master himself!
Not a fan of Oltretomba but Guumon's paint apps were so damn good on that thing
Pieces were expensive but I guess that makes sense since they are all one-offs. I snagged a Quateroid which is all I was shooting for anyway, so I'm pleased. Looking forward to next year!
Really great pics and insightful recap. Everyone should check this out!
Funny, by the time the show started there was only 3 Quateroids on display...anyone know what happened to the other 2?
It was good to hang out with some old timers, but the show was lacking this year, i think the crowd showed that. Probably half the turn out of the past 2 years. As expected, the PK stuff and the Rampage stuff sold and then everyone left. It was actually somewhat refreshing to me, to know that the undiscriminating, hype beast attitude that has seems to engulf Instagram these days was mostly missing in NYC.
Thanks, Patrick. I tried to talk about at least one piece from each artist to some degree. It definitely took quite a bit of time to write, but I'm glad you found it worthwhile. As for the other Quateroids, unfortunately I had to leave before the lottery and main sales, so I have no clue.
I kinda agree, Joe. I think there was a lot of great unsold pieces as well, but it definitely lacked the diversity of, at least, last year's exhibit.
I was wondering the same thing... Only A, B, and C were at the show. Not all 5 he made.
And then D and E both show up sold out online.
Also what happened to the 2nd Hyper Kraken Paul made, that also never made it to the show?
Seeing how the website also shows the one up there as Hyper Kraken A, where'd B go?
Kinda bullshit that 3 of Paul's pieces were not even present at the show, and were probably also pre-sold.
@Paulkaiju any insight on this?
he mighta set them aside for one of his other upcoming shows! if they never made it to monstrosities that is
That is odd about the Quateroids. That would explain why that shelf looked so bare. It looks like a great little toy, but three don't take up a lot of space.
I mean, the 2 other quateroids definitely show up as "sold out" on mph's site, but weren't on display.
Let's be honest, we all probably have a good idea on where that Kraken went. Might be the same person that thinks they like certain toys more than me and hits me up on IG to sell said toy, that happens to have a good amount of meaning to me, because they apparently like it more (AKA they just have funds to throw around).
You'd have to be more specific. That sounds like it could be half the people on instagram.
I have my suspicions but I'm gonna let some other people talk first.
So was Martoy Black at the show? I'm still trying to confirm my suspicions that he is the person behind Oltretomba.
The other two Quateroids were on display, as my photos of the night show, so I don't know what happened to them before others arrived. As for the second Hyper Kraken, it definitely wasn't on display nor had space set aside for it — though the fact they refer to the one as Hyper Kraken A did make me think there was supposed to be a second one.
ah! i didnt realize they were shown as part of the show, my bad
I know what happened to the Quateroids and no, I did not buy them. Someone purchased them after a quick discussion.
You're saying prior to the lotto correct?
Its a real shame if they ALL went to one buyer. I would have liked to have a shot at one of the little dudes. As im sure everyone else would have.
They were gone before I arrived, shortly before the lotto started. A think I know who they sold to. and I wouldn't be surprised if they sold the missing Kraken to the same pair as well.
IMO, pretty crappy on the galleries part to do a pre-sale on the PK stuff like that when they announced it would be lotto.
I'm pretty sure we all know the pair. It's just lame. Now that most people have caught on though, they won't post them on their IG and it'll kill them because they want to show off how cool they are so badly!
