can we keep the random show off pics to the show off thread? http://skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?threads/sho-yo-butas-for-lixx.31124/page-93 this spot is for general discussion, mostly new releases.
i mean like discussing new releases, posting pics of new releases, asking general questions or talking buta in general. not posting random pics of figures from a decade ago, or ones from a few releases ago even. I honestly dont why i even gave a fuck enough to say something. I am glad that this thread has people posting still though.
No one has yet to mention that the Butanohana website has been changed since September, to coincide with their 21st anniversary. There is some nice information in the About page I thought I'd translate and share here: About Butanohana Cyclamen The reason we chose the name Butanohana (“Pig’s Nose/Flower”) goes back to the Japanese name for cyclamen, which is 豚の饅頭 (“pig’s bun”). I mistakenly remembered it as 豚の花 (“pig’s flower”), and that mix-up became the inspiration. We wrote it in hiragana so that more people would remember it easily, and because the confusion between 花 (flower) and 鼻 (nose) felt cute and fun. That’s how we ended up with ぶたのはな. Soft-Yaki People sometimes ask, “What is soft-yaki?” I explain that it refers to the process of molding (literally “baking”) soft vinyl. When we started the company, the molding craftsmen used the phrase “soft-yaki,” and we liked how gentle and warm it sounded—perfect for our products. So we used it just as it was, naming our line “Butanohana Soft-Yaki Toys.” Our hope is that when people see these toys, they can feel the sense of each figure being carefully “baked” one by one. September 2025 Butanohana Co., Ltd. celebrated its 21st anniversary in September 2025. We began with silver accessory production, and after starting as a sole proprietorship, we incorporated as Butanohana in 2004. At the time, the mainstream was kaiju figures around 20 cm tall—the standard size sofubi. But we named our 13 cm soft vinyl figures “Butanohana Soft-Yaki Toys”, launching first with a dinosaur series, then focusing mainly on kaiju from Ultraman works, steadily releasing products ever since. Our guiding belief has always been to create enough original sculpts that our products could stand on their own as a complete series. Later on, the Janken Battle Series joined the lineup and brought more excitement, and working on First Gundam and UNICORN figures expanded our range even further. Bit by bit, we kept moving forward—and as we did, more people began looking forward to what we’d make next. Even now, 21 years later, our feelings haven’t changed: whenever someone sees or holds a Butanohana Soft-Yaki toy, we hope it brings a smile to their face. We’re always thinking about how we can create something fun once again.
More recycling of parts? Buta’s been on this kick for the past dozen or so figures I think. Same arms as Astron here? I suspect he’s had a few base molds to cast wax from, then gone crazy altering the wax to suit a variety of monsters. The new oni seems like another example. No complaints at all, just something that seems more apparent after noticing it a few times recently. Perhaps harkens back to the actual suits being reused.
I feel like O-San has been really faithful so far with repeating parts only if they have a real-life correlation to what was done on the show. While these arms really look similar to Arstron's (and Ghostron's), I don't think they're the same. The latter's hands are facing the sides of the figure while Gammas's are facing out, like what he did with Red Jack (and Dreamgillas). I was on the website again, and it seems like the new batch of figures will be released as part of a new lottery system this month. Heartwarming to see the prices listed for each (¥5,500).
