Finally picked this up recently - while some of the stories feel like fragments indeed, Ito gets back into the groove again rather quickly. "Blackbird" definitely stands out - wonderfully gothic and grotesque at once, absolutely terrifying and one of Ito's best works imo. "The meat had a very unpleasant taste..." *shiver*

Need to pick up more Ito works. Gyo is ludicrous and I love it. Also gotta keep chugging away on Lone Wolf.

Okay...One punch man is still a favorite and I hate to say it but am going to try out One Piece. I don't think it's a manga that anyone really follows on sb but I'm looking to read something that take little brain power.

I watch the anime casually when it pops up so im sure the manga is equally as good if not better.

One Piece is my favorite ...thing of all time. Just stick with it. I was immediately hooked, but I know the early art style gets to people. Oda is a genius in every possible sense. Just pay close attention : )

I just watched Gantz:0 on Netflix. It's a CGI film based on the manga, Gantz (duh, but it is a different title from the film). I talk a little about the film in the Sci-Fi Movies thread, but I saved my even geekier thoughts for here!! Yeah!

If you're aware of Gantz, then you know it's all about crazy weapons, brutal deaths and some T&A. It's not the best of mangas, but it was fun. This film captures that vibe perfectly while delivering an amazing looking experience.

I feel a little shallow enjoying the manga and the film and trying to review/sales-pitch it, but I am happy with the translation of it from page to screen.

The film uses the Osaka arc of the manga where the main characters are teleported to Osaka from Tokyo to assist in the fight against the alien invasion. For this round, the aliens appear as various creatures from Japanese folklore, such as oni and yokai. The film essentially centers around this mission without explaining too much backstory and just throws the main character into the mayhem. It skips the smaller missions and goes right for a larger one with bigger weapons and way more enemies.

It's interesting that the film chose Kato as the main character instead of Kurono, who is generally "more" the main character in the manga. Both are leads in the manga, but Kurono definitely had more page-time.

Due to the mission-centric plot and just the nature of the Gantz "game", there could easily be more sequels.

Yeah, i've read and own the first eight or so. I enjoyed it for what it is. Not enough to buy all the other books in the series (unless i see them cheap), but its quite stylish.

I found the Dark Horse omnibus edition 1 & 2 of 'Astro Boy' on the weekend. I've had book 3 for years, which is the story that the manga 'Pluto' is based on (The Greatest Robot on Earth).
I'm enjoying the birth of Astro Boy immensely! I was hoping i'd find it second-hand eventually, so it was cool to grab it for £1.

Yeah I'm on 14 and it's pretty good. Quick and easy and there are some entertaining bits. Lots of weirdness which I like.

Which arc is that? I actually watched the anime for a good bit and eventually switched to the manga while reading online, so I have no idea of volumes.. Glad you're enjoying it!

I found the first four One Punch Man books cheap in a charity shop and i've started reading them.

Have to say, i was not impressed to begin with. The 'line-up the fearsome opponents' structure was not doing it for me
to begin with, but once i started to get the light-hearted whacky humour of it all, it started to grow on me.

It's made me LOL a few times already so i'm all turned around, i think i'm going to like the series after all.

Bill Burr mentioned he was watching the anime recently. Is the anime any good?

    @Headhunter

Cool, i will check it out. I think maybe the humour will translate even better on screen, the English translation in the books so far is a bit clunky. I've found that is often the case with comedic manga translations.

Love One Punch man both manga and anime, but One Piece... stick with the manga for sure. At least that is my opinion. If you watch the anime first, you will not want to read it, so many fucking filters and it's annoying!!

You can also watch One Pace which removes all the filler pretty well. Filler totally sucks, lol.

Well, i bought all the Viz translations of the 'One Punch Man' manga and now i'm totally hooked.

I haven't enjoyed a 'new' manga for a while so its been a real treat . . . i cant say exactly why i like it so much.
I think its the style of humour and the amazing fight artwork, the artist is very talented.

I've caught up with the story, so now i have to wait for Viz to publish more :(
Looks like i will have to invest in the anime boxset on DVD!

Sweet, i have it but i've been saving it for a rainy day! I should just read it by the sounds of it.

I also bought another Viz book - 'Battle Royale - Angels Border' cheap in a charity shop recently. Looks like a one-shot side story for BR. The artwork is really nice looking, Viz know how to do shit right too, i love their paperbacks.

Excited for 12 but I'm expecting a huge delay between 12 and 13. 13 doesn't have an official release date and is probably going to be another 6-12 months.

Yeah, thats one i've always been curious about but never read. Funnily enough, the woman who does 'Wolfsmund'
(Mitsuhisa Kuji) used to be an illustration assistant for Kentaro Miura who does Berserk . . .

Just bought 2 big slabs of manga in a charity shop. VizBig editions of 'InuYasha' by Rumiko Takahashi, which means 6 volumes in 2 books. I like Rumic World stuff, so its shameful i haven't read this story yet. Its top of my to-read stack, immediately.

    Rumiko's artwork is so timeless . . .
